“Aurora?” Maleficent called out. She was staring at some of her paperwork on her desk, and she couldn’t concentrate on it. It was lunch time, and she hoped the other woman was hungry. “Could you come in here?”
She shot her secretary a look like ‘no funny business.’
Aurora glanced up from the reports she was looking over when she heard her name. It was a nice distraction, as she felt like her eyes would start crossing if she looked at numbers for much longer. She put the reports back in their folder and stepped into Maleficent’s office. She made her way over to Maleficent’s desk, smiling. “What is it?”
“How hungry are you?” She asked, her face perfectly straight but only the slightest invitation in her voice. She liked seeing how Aurora reacted when she flirted, but she didn’t like it being obvious she was flirting.
Aurora tilted her head slightly. She wasn’t quite sure if the faery was flirting or not, but a little innuendo never hurt. She raised an eyebrow and replied, “Depends on what sort of hunger you’re asking about.”
“Brunch, I was thinking. I’m in the mood for something savory.” She looked at Aurora from over her reading glasses, and her lips turned up every so slightly. Maleficent could embarrass easily, she just never really showed it. Aurora brought out the worst in her.
Aurora grinned. “Brunch sounds amazing. I imagine you could use the break even more than I can.”
"Do you want to risk going out in public, or would you like to stay here?" Maleficent asked, wary of Stefan but not wanting to let him dictate their lives.
That was a good question. While Aurora had enjoyed staying out of the public eye as much as she could (a few of her classmates still gawked a little), she didn’t want to become a hermit. “Let’s go out.”
"Very well." She stood, performing a Picard Manuever by tugging her shirt down as she did so, and stepped around her desk. Her hand immediately went to Aurora's back to guide her out, but she dropped it before they left her office, just to avoid any looks. Although most everyone already knew, she preferred to keep them... guessing.
She led the way to the elevator, and once inside regarded Aurora with a considering look. She didn't often fantasize, but when she did? Taking Aurora in this elevator was at the top of her list. "I'm feeling Mongolian grill."
The light touch of Maleficent’s hand against her back made Aurora smile. And it didn’t bother her when it dropped, either. She understood the need not to invite extra gossip in the workplace.
She glanced at Maleficent once they were in the elevator. She did remember the faery mentioning...certain things...about the elevator before, but at the moment Aurora was more interested in food than...other appetites. “That sounds great to me.”
"Good, it will be entertaining as well." She planned on taking most of the rest of the afternoon for this. Once the doors closed, her fingers slide up Aurora's arm, before dropping back to her side. Maleficent gnawed lightly on her own lip, and stared out the glass side.
Aurora shivered at the touch. She reached out and took Maleficent’s hand, lacing their fingers together before bringing it to her lips to kiss. She smiled at the faery. “I do remember what you said about the elevator,” she said. “In case you wondered.”
The skin of Maleficent’s cheeks flushed darkly, and her mouth opened and closed not unlike a fish, though it was not advisable to ever make that comparison. She wet her lips, and squeezed their fingers together. “That is...Well then.” She steadfastly returned her gaze to the window.
Aurora grinned triumphantly. Discovery she could ruffle Maleficent’s feathers that way had been one of her favorite discoveries. She went back to staring out the window, content in holding Maleficent’s hand.
Ruffle feathers, indeed. The elevator opened up to the garage, and Maleficent quickly walked Aurora over to the Car of the Day - a cherry red classic cadillac. Convertible, of course. The top was up, more for their privacy than any other reason. She unlocked the door and helped Aurora into the passenger seat, leaning in to kiss her lightly.
It was always fun to find out what Maleficent had chosen to drive for the day. All of the cars were amazing, and this one was no exception. Aurora smiled as Maleficent helped her into the car. The kiss made her smile as well. After Maleficent closed the door, Aurora settled into her seat and buckled up.
She had many cars and it was one of the things she took a thrill in, when she wasn't flying. Her wings were uncomfortable in cars, now though. Even with a glamour and other spells to hide them and let her be around people. But she put up with it, as she loved so few things.
"I've been told of a place down on 6th. It is apparently a place I would never go, but the food is good, therefore I wish to break convention."
“If it’s a place you’d never go, they’d never expect you to show up.” Which meant they could probably eat without having to deal the media. At least Aurora hoped so.
“Precisely. And besides, it’s okay to slum it every one in awhile, no?” She reached over to stroke Aurora’s cheek as they drove. “I hope you do not mind…In truth I just wanted time with you.”
Aurora smiled at the touch and the word that went with it. “I don’t mind. I love spending time with you.” She sighed happily. “And slumming it’s fine. You can find a lot of great food you’d miss out on otherwise that way. And you usually get more food, too.”
“I love..spending time with you as well,” Maleficent replied. She smiled politely. The grill was well kept in the front, the building clean and inviting, but most of all the food smelled divine. Her stomach rumbled.
Aurora grinned. Maleficent did keep getting closer to saying those words, and that was enough for Aurora. And she had to giggle when Maleficent’s stomach rumbled. “It’s definitely time for lunch.”
“That didn’t happen,” She complained, poking her stomach like that would somehow undo the offence.
“Of course it didn’t.” Aurora smiled again and began perusing the menu offerings.
The grill specialized in beef and chicken, with some pork dishes, and almost all of them were fried in pans in front of them. Maleficent found this most fascinating, and the flames seemed to reflect in her eyes as she watched.
Aurora decided to try some of everything, because she could decide what looked best.
Some of the sauces were spicier than others and Maleficent settled on one near the higher end of hot for her meal. She nudged some of the samples to Aurora to see what the other woman liked, before returning her attention to the flames.
Aurora tried the sauces and went with one closer to the medium range of spicy. Enough for a nice kick without singing her tongue.
“Have you heard anything more from Stefan?” Maleficent asked, while taking a break in her meal. She refused to call him Aurora’s father. He was Stefan the Jackass, in her book.
Aurora frowned slightly. "No," she said, "I haven't heard from him. I did convince them to let me put extra locks on my new door, though. Just in case."
“Good.” The older woman pursed her lips together in thought. She looked over her shoulder, half expecting him to walk through the door. “He has not returned my lawyer’s calls.”
“I see.” Aurora thought that sounded like a bad thing, or at least a suspicious thing. Suspicious things in relation to her father now made her a bit nervous. “That’s...probably not a good thing. But I haven’t seen him, so maybe it’s not as bad as it could be.”
“I promise you, I will not let anything happen to you.” She reached across the table and stroked Aurora’s cheek. It had taken quite a bit of money keeping her bruises under wrap in the tabloids, but abusive wasn’t something she particularly wanted attached to either of them.
Aurora smiled and leaned into the touch. “I always feel safer when I’m with you.” It was true here, just as it had been true in the dream world. She could hardly wait to dream of actually living in the Moors with Maleficent. She’d already dreamed of working out what she’d tell her “aunts.” And meeting that boy. He was nice, yes, but he didn’t really warrant thinking too much about when she was going to live in the Moors forever.
That had been something that was worrisome to Maleficent, but she’d been secretly ecstatic that Aurora had chosen her over some boring little boy. “I hope I never break that trust.” But she would, and the thought made her heart ache. She was enjoying Aurora while it lasted.
Aurora smiled brightly. “I don’t think you ever will. Not on purpose any way. Everyone does make mistakes now and then. But I trust you.”
She opened her mouth, then closed it and nodded. Then kissed Aurora’s fingertip. “You are...marvelous.”
Aurora blushed. She brushed her fingertip over Maleficent’s lower lip and smiled.
Across the street, a man with a pair of binoculars looked on.
Maleficent shivered, heedless of anyone who might be watching, and sucked lightly on Aurora’s fingertip, before nibbling on it. “... Let us take the rest of the day off. Would you like to go to the beach?”
Aurora’s blush deepened. “Yes!” It was breathless, and taking the day off for the beach made Aurora feel a little giddy.
Dear goddess she was beautiful. Maleficent had to fight back a girlish laugh of her own, and she'd never eaten so quickly as she did then to get the meal part over. She thought it would be a sufficient drive to digest. She looked at Aurora as if suggesting she hurry.
Noticing Maleficent’s look, Aurora quickly finished her own food. This was going to be an amazing day.
Taking care of the check, Maleficent stood, holding Aurora's hand as they left the place and knowing she was getting looks. She didn't care, it was lower class anyway. The car was waiting and miraculously intact. "Well, I'd half expected it to be gone."
“It’d be a bit too obvious to steal, anyway.” Aurora was too happy to spend much time thinking about the possibility of the car not having been there waiting for them still.
“Yes, and I’d tear down heaven and earth to get it back!” She stroked the door lightly, before putting the car into gear and tearing out. She didn’t notice the nondescript black van following them.
That made Aurora laugh, but she could imagine it. And it would be a beautiful sight, if a terrifying one for any would-be car thief.
Maleficent’s wings itched, but she couldn’t really scratch them, at least until they got to the beach. The one she had in mind was reserved for people with money, power, or typically both. She just gave the parking attendant a smile, before guiding Aurora down the path to the secluded beach.
Aurora took in the scenery along the path as they walked. It was a really nice place.
“No one should bother us here,” Maleficent said. “There may be a few others, but it’s generally accepted that we all leave well enough alone. There are plus sides to being wealthy.” She winked at her …. person. Girlfriend? Girlfriend seemed so…
Common.
Aurora grinned. “This is amazing! You know so many great places!” She leaned in and gave Maleficent a kiss of the cheek.
“I’ve never had cause to visit them before. Before you, I never spent much time out of the office, just enjoying myself.” She touched Aurora’s cheek, then pulled her into a kiss. “You are a good influence on me.”
Smiling, Aurora wrapped her arms around Maleficent’s neck. “I’m glad,” she said. “And I’m so glad I have you. You care about me...and that’s more than I can say about most people who’ve been in my life.” She expected that her mother had cared, but sadly she hadn’t lived long enough for Aurora to remember what it felt like.
"Well," Maleficent started to say, only to be interrupted by a sound in the bushes. Stefan emerged, visibly agitated, looking like he hadn't slept in a week and shaved in six.
He pointed, finger shaking. "What. Are you doing? Why. Why are you doing this." He gestured at Maleficent and Aurora. "To me. Why are you doing this to me? I'm your father and you side with that cunt??"
Aurora shifted, sliding between Maleficent’s arm and security of a wing. She kept one hand hand on Maleficent’s shoulder and dropped the other down to link fingers with Maleficent. The contact made her feel safer, and she drew strength for the closeness.
“You were never a father to me,” she said. “You were never there for me. You trashed my apartment and you hit me. Twice.” She was trembling, just slightly, partly from fear and partly from the adrenaline rush that the edge of rage in her voice had contributed.
It looked as though Stefan was going to hit her again. His fists balled up and his face turned red and puffy and a vein in his neck throbbed. “You were supposed to help me, you were supposed to perfect my image! Instead you’re corrupted by this devil in disguise.” He spat in Maleficent’s direction and the older woman looked suitably disgusted.
She squeezed Aurora’s hand, and narrowed her eyes. But she said nothing, not yet. Aurora had to have her say. She thought Aurora needed this.
“There! Don’t you see? None of this is about me, and it never has been! All you care about is you! Your image. That’s the only thing you care about, the only thing you’ve ever cared about.” Aurora’s jaw was tight and her blue eyes were blazing. They also shimmered with tears that threatened to to fall at any moment.
“You’re the devil. She’s an avenging angel. And if you ever come near me, or her, again, you’ll have more to worry about than a restraining order.” Aurora took a deep breath and straightened her shoulders. “Which you’re currently breaking, by the way. Which you’d know if you’d bother to talk with her lawyer.”
Pride. Maleficent was proud of Aurora. That fire inside the younger woman had always attracted her. That spunk, that… humanity. It had reminded her of what she’d lost. It still did.For the first time, she felt like everything would be all right.
She tilted her head, staring at Stefan with fiery eyes. “Leave, right this moment, and I won’t have you arrested. Tarry even a minute longer, and I will have the police so far up your ass you’ll be spitting sirens.”
Stefan seemed to deflate a little bit, but he puffed out his chest. “I have every right to that which is mine.”
Aurora looked him right in eyes. “I am not your property. I am my own woman, and you will leave. Now.”
“You will regret this.” He pointed at both of them, threat in his posture and utter madness in his eyes. He turned and stumbled away up the path.
“Would that I could put a bullet in his back,” Maleficent muttered.
“Better to put it in his front. Clearer case of self-defense that way,” Aurora murmured, burying her face against the back of Maleficent’s shoulder.
That brought a laugh out of Maleficent. She squeezed her hand, turning her cheek to nuzzle the top of Aurora’s head. “I shall keep that in mind. I don’t want him to ruin our day. But I damn well hope we ruined his.”
Aurora sighed. “At least he’ll probably check his messages now. Which is a small victory. But yeah. Let’s forget about him for now.”
She didn’t really have a swimsuit, but the area she led Aurora to didn’t really require one. Her clothing dropped to her feet once they were in an area that casual observers couldn’t get to. “I think I shall take a dip.”
Aurora grinned at Maleficent as the faery disrobed. Once all of Maleficent’s clothes lay on the ground, Aurora began undressing as well. “I think I’ll join you.”
“I was hoping you’d say that.” She rolled her shoulders, and her wings glimmered into view briefly before the glamour took it’s hold back. She ran for the waves.
