Elphaba looked out over the railing of the balcony with Dior in her arms. She hugged the little boy close as they gazed out into the forest where she had married his mother just a few hours before. It was twilight now, the soft light filtering through the trees and the faerie lights that decorated the terrace area breaking through the dark and making the evening the perfect end to the perfect day. Soft music played through the air thanks to some magic Elphaba had learnt from the Grimmerie specially for the occasion.
She pressed her cheek to the top of Dior’s head as she swayed gently with him. It had been a long day for the little boy, but she thought he had enjoyed it. Watching his mom dress up in a beautiful white gown, presenting the rings to them and throwing confetti over them with great glee. Now she was snuggling with him contentedly as Glinda, Kate, Elsa and Lúthien talked behind her.
There were few places could have been more perfect. Luthien had literally shed tears when she'd realized what they'd planned. Now her finger was weighed a little heavier and her heart was lighter. She still felt the urge to shed some more, and kept stealing glances at her wife and her son.
She might have sang a little, earlier, a song she'd made up on the spot. A new lay, for a new life and a new love.
It had even managed to move Kate, who was planning her own romantic proposal. It was very hard to keep quiet about it.
The wedding had been wonderful, everything had gone perfectly - as Glinda had assured Elphie that it would - and both women had looked stunning. Glinda hadn’t been able to hold back the tears as her friends said such beautiful vows to each other and Luthien’s song had been incredibly moving.
Elsa had held onto Kate’s hand throughout the whole thing and, she had to admit, she’d thought about what their own wedding would be like. She was getting ahead of herself of course, Kate hadn’t proposed yet and apart from that hopeful message on the valarnet she wasn’t supposed to see Kate had not hinted anything else.
Chatting to the small group of women now she leaned against her girlfriend and smiled happily, weddings just made everybody happy.
Dior took Elphaba’s hand with his tiny fingers, moving her fingers so he could look at the ring now sitting on her finger. It matched Lúthien’s, something which seemed to fascinate the young boy. She smiled at him and turned to face the others. She caught Lúthien’s eye as she came to stand with the group. She let Dior play, he was babbling to himself quite happily, his head tucked into her neck as he played gently.
She looked up at her small group of treasured friends, more tears springing to her eyes. “Thank you, all of you, so much for coming. You’re the most important people in the world to me and I can’t have imagined sharing this day with anyone else,” she grinned through happy tears. “I can’t remember a day when I have ever been so happy.”
Luthien slid her hand behind Elphaba and rested it on her back. She wanted the physical touch. It was comforting and she could feel the love flowing between her and her wife like a physical warmth. “This is by far one of the best surprises I’ve ever had,” she said. Dior was of course the other one. She stroked her son’s cheek, then leaned in and kissed Elphaba.
Though she didn’t know how she would do it, she knew she would find a way to give up her immortality again, so that she could grow old with her. That was something she’d worry about later. For now she just let her joy flow through her.
“I think I can safely say for all of us that we’re honored to be here and sharing this with the both of you” Glinda said, “And you have many many more happy days to come, both of you”
Elsa smiled, “It was one of the most beautiful surprises I’ve ever witnessed” she agreed with Luthien. It had been ridiculously romantic and perfect for the happy couple.
“Yes, well, it couldn’t have been pulled off without this one,” Elphaba gestured to Glinda. “Y’know, once I’d got her out of the bubble she got herself caught in, she was just the woman I needed to help put all of this together and remind me every time I started to freak out that everything was going to be ok,” she grinned at her friend. “Thank you Glinda, for everything.”
Kate rested her hands on Elsa's hips, pulling her back against her and kissing the back of her head. It was a good day, and one she was happy to have been a part of. She let the couple have their moments, though, and just basked in the warmth of everyone.
"Yes, thank you. I still cannot believe how you managed to keep all of this secret." Luthien laughed melodically, unable to contain the smile that once more burst across her face. "The venue was more perfect than you could possible imagine."
“All you needed was a little reminder now and then” Glinda told her friend, blushing a little at the praise and reminder of the bubble incident, “Elphie knew the venue was perfect the moment she found it” she added to Luthien.
“And of course the secret was kept” Elsa said, “It’s the most important part of a surprise” she winked.
Elphaba grinned at Dior as he lifted his head from her shoulder. He must have heard Glinda’s voice and wanted to be with his favourite aunt because now he was reaching over for her to hold him. Elphaba laughed at the boy’s efforts and moved over to hand him over to Glinda’s arms. “I think he’s liked hanging out with his auntie Glinda today,” she smiled.
“Mm, I suppose he’s going to get to spend some more time with her tonight,” Luthien joked. She thread her fingers through her wife’s, lifting her hand up to kiss it.
“We can watch him,” Kate said, before she could think better of it. She wasn’t sure what possessed her. She was terrible with kids. She’d just dreamed last night that she’d scarred her dream!girlfriend’s daughter. Probably for life.
“We have a great time together, right buddy?” Glinda said to the little boy who wrapped his arms around her neck and settled happily against her nodding his head.
Elsa looked at her girlfriend in surprise, they’d never talked about children and honestly she had assumed Kate just wasn’t that keen on them. “Of course, if you’d like us to. And Glinda is just across the hall if we need her”
“Lúthien,” Elphaba blushed bright red at her fian….wife’s suggestive comment. She couldn’t keep the grin from spreading over her face and she turned to hide her reaction in Lúthien’s neck.
Luthien laughed, rubbing her hand up Elphaba’s back. “What is there to be embarrassed about?”
“Plenty,” Kate said, keeping a straight face and pretending to ignore Elsa’s look. “But glad to know what she thinks the highlight of the day is going to be.”
Glinda simply smiled at her friends embarrassment, it was sweet to see Luthien tease her and draw her out. They really were great for each other.
“Well I think it’s most peoples highlight isn’t it?” Elsa said with a smile in Kate’s direction. She knew it would be hers, there would be more anticipation on a wedding night and just a sense of being right.
Elphaba just grinned even wider at her friend’s teasing, feeling herself flush brighter and brighter red, trying to hide her face from them. “You guys are terrible, you know that, right?” After all, Elphaba was a prude, always had been, always would be. Until Lúthien, she’d never had anyone to tease her like that and she still wasn’t used to it. “And especially in front of the baby,” she grinned, reaching out a hand to stroke Dior’s cheek as he grinned over at them from his place in Glinda’s arms.
“When he’s older and easily embarrassed, it will be great fun.” Luthien and Beren had had a great deal of fun embarrassing their son in the dream world. You weren’t parenting right if you didn’t embarrass them a little. She tugged on Elphaba’s arm, eyes bright. “We will raise him together and that makes me very happy.”
Parental instincts were something that Kate wasn’t familiar with. But Dior was a cutie and it didn’t hurt to see what that was like, right? She didn’t know what Elsa wanted, and she still wasn’t 100% sure she’d say yes to her own proposal. But a little practice couldn’t hurt. “I’m sure it’s the best part.”
Glinda chuckled, “I have a feeling Elphie will be the one more embarrassed” she grinned, she loved her friend but her reactions to teasing were very entertaining.
Elsa liked children, she had adored being an older sister which was why it had hurt so much being sent away when Anna was ill. She simply hadn’t thought they would be in her future, maybe it was something she and Kate needed to discuss. If they survived babysitting tonight that was.
“Me too, love,” Elphaba turned and kissed Lúthien gently. “But first, let’s enjoy this wonderful evening with our closest friends,” she stepped closer and wrapped her arms around her wife to dance with her again. This was the perfect end to a perfect day.
