For the last week Finn has been lying low at home, mostly, not wanting to risk going out and hurting someone else. He knew that he should have let Kol know he was okay and not running around the streets biting people, but he simply couldn’t face him yet. Sure, Kol had bitten that person too, but Finn was supposed to be the one to keep control now. He’d lost control years ago with the drugs, which meant he couldn’t lose control now. Except that he had. Being a vampire was really screwing up his life and self control.
Having heard about the two people who had been drained of blood and accidentally texting random people that he hadn’t done it, Finn had decided to venture out and over to Kol’s house to tell him in person that he hadn’t done it. Normally he would have driven there, but considering he was a vampire now, he could run there without breaking a sweat. However, halfway there, something caught his attention, causing him to stop.
Jubilee did this more often then she admitted to. She'd had a long history to perfect her hunt. Time traveling vampires, who'd believe it? But she'd partied in Paris in the 1890s, and she'd hunted Japanese soldiers in Nanking. Little, subtle things, with rippling consequences, but when she wanted to hunt, she knew the signs to look for, and her current target was giving her the most disgusting memories she'd picked up. "Ugh." She wiped her mouth with the back of her hand. "Should just kill you." Her eyes glowed red. "But instead you're gonna think hard about your life. You really got a couple of choices. Take a knife to your wrist or turn yourself in."
Hearing the woman’s voice, Finn followed it, the scent of blood making it that much easier to find them. As he got closer, his own eyes changed, veins appearing in the skin around them. Closing his eyes, he tried to get control of himself and when he opened them again, they had gone back to normal for the moment. He really was the worst sort of person to become a vampire. As a former addict, he knew how easily he could become addicted to human blood, despite the fact that he didn’t want to be that type of vampire. In the dreams, he drank from people, but mostly because back then they had had no other choice. In real life, he could change that, if only he could get control of himself.
The prey back peddled away and landed on his butt when Jubilee let go of him. He turned tail and ran, and the woman laughed. “Oh man, I think he shit himself. Gross!”
Hearing something, she turned and looked in Finn’s direction. Was someone there?
For a second Finn was tempted to go after the guy as he ran away, but he managed to control himself and instead turned his attention towards the girl who had released him. It didn’t appear that she’d actually noticed him yet. “Hello?” He could have left without her even seeing him, but for some reason he called out to her. He wasn’t really sure why.
“Hey,” She said, relaxing slightly, but only slightly. Her eyes continued to glow, and she could smell that he wasn’t human. She just wasn’t sure if he was a good one or a bad one.
Finn was taken by surprise by her eyes at first, never having seen someone’s eyes glow like that before. Snapping out of it, he took a step closer, “Are you…..are you a vampire too?” He asked warily. He could also tell that she wasn’t human; he wasn’t quite sure how he knew, but he could just sense it. It must have been a vampire thing.
“Yeah.” she grinned, flashing her teeth at him. “And you aren’t human at all, are you pretty boy? Question I’m gonna ask you, is if that’s gonna be a problem or not.” She folded her arms.
Finn probably should have been wary of the girl, but he knew that she couldn’t actually kill him. Sure, she could attack him, but he was an Original so only the White Oak Stake could kill him and that was back at his apartment, “That depends. Was there a reason, aside from hunger, for that guy to be a snack?” He knew that there was a vampire around who was killing people and there was every chance that this girl was that vampire.
While it would be interesting to see if Rules crossed universes, Jubilee wasn’t about to hurt anyone who didn’t deserve it. “He’s a creep. Those kinda dudebros who think no means yes an’ shiz. I figure if he can’t change I can find him again.”
Finn nodded, “So he deserved it then.” Something told him that this was not the vampire who had been killing people recently and he was relieved at that. He was still a new vampire despite technically being an Original and he didn’t really want to go up against another vampire right now. He might have been over a thousand years old in the dreams and stronger than pretty much any other vampire, but in the waking world, he was only twenty seven and had only been a vampire for a short time and was still trying to control it.
“Probably deserved worse, but this ain’t the 30s.” She shrugged her shoulders, like that was something that might make sense, but maybe it wouldn’t. Jubilee licked her lips. “How long you’ve been turned?”
Finn’s brows rose slightly at her comment; thanks to Klaus he’d been in a coffin, daggered for nine hundred years and had missed quite a lot, so her remark went over his head, “A few weeks.” He was wary of just how much to open up to this girl since he didn’t exactly know her, but there was something about her at the same time that told him he could trust her and he wasn’t sure what it was. “You?”
“Depends. Technically about a hundred and sixty-six years, but as far as most people know, about two.” Jubilee rubbed the back of her neck. “OC crap. Time travel. Sounds crazy but hey, we’re vampires.”
Finn’s brows rose again at her next comment, “I suppose not a lot can be surprising now, huh?” Yet there were still things that surprised Finn, “I’m guessing you became a vampire as a result of the dreams?” He was curious, now that he knew she had been a vampire for a long time, in the waking world, how she had coped with it. It was one thing to become a vampire with the rest of his family and learn to handle it together, but becoming a vampire overnight and coping with it alone was another thing.
“Yeah. Dracula’s son wanted to use me as bait so he turned me. Then I started to change. Slowly...took a couple of months, but at least it started after….some good stuff had happened.” She smiled, a little grimly. The Olympics had been just in time. Much longer and she wouldn’t have been able to compete for fear of basically cheating.
“I’m one of the original vampires.” Not that Finn was trying to one up the girl or anything considering the fact that he wasn’t the least bit happy about being a vampire, but he thought it was worth mentioning. Finn hadn’t paid much attention to the Olympics so he didn’t recognize Jubilee or realize that she was more or less a celebrity and that was probably a good thing, “Mine happened over night. When my dreams ended.” He subconsciously brought his hand up to his chest where the white oak stake had been plunged into it in the dream.
"I think drac was first in my world, but I'm not entirely sure. I kinda skipped out on that part of the history lesson from Blade. But different strokes for different folks. And that had to have sucked. I at least kinda had a chance to...adjust an' expect."
While Finn had known he that it was inevitable that he’d become a vampire, he didn’t think that had it happened over time that he’d been able to adjust even then, “Adjusting has been the part that has been difficult for me. It was different in the dreams, but here...it’s been difficult.”
“Well…” Jubilee rubbed the back of her neck. “There is that...instinct. That need to kill, to feed, that not caring about people. They’re all supposed to be food for us, right? I had to fight...still have to fight that. But there are some people that..help keep me warm inside.” She thought about Laura and an old familiar pang returned to her chest. She still didn’t know how much space she needed to give her, or even if they were ever getting back together, so she operated as though that wasn’t happening.
Finn listened, the girl’s words making him think about Sage, “There was one person in the dreams like that. I met her well after I was turned, but she made me feel human again. And my brother.” Out of his siblings, he and Elijah were probably the two who had held onto the most of their humanity after they’d become vampires. Unlike Kol or Klaus who were considered loose cannons, Finn and Elijah didn’t simply kill for the fun of it. In fact, Finn often judged Klaus on the evil things he did. However, he had no idea if Sage was a real person or simply a person from his dreams and Elijah hadn’t been around in awhile and had no idea about the dreams or what was happening to his siblings back in Orange County.
Jubilee nodded. “You wanna hold onto that. Or find someone here that can help. It isn’t always like the dreams, you know. It’s different. It can be different. You can totes make it different.”
Finn nodded. Elijah might have been away and not aware of the dreams and what was happening, but there was always Rebekah. His sister was one of the sweetest people that Finn knew and if anyone could help him hold onto his humanity it was her and Natalia. “How was the transformation for you? Did it take awhile to adjust?” He was also curious if she bit people to stay alive or if she used blood bags, but he didn’t want to pry too much.
“Yeah, took awhile. Nearly died a few times. Blood was the hardest part, honestly. Especially when you can like...hear someone’s pulse…” She licked her lips.
“I know what you mean. It’s distracting.” Finn hoped that someday he’d have half the willpower his dream counterpart had so that he wouldn’t hurt another person by accident. “But you’re alright now? You can control it?”
“Yeah. I don’t like actually hurting innocent people so that helps. And I got a kid now so that’s like...making things better too.”
Finn’s brows rose slightly at that last part and he couldn’t help but ask, “You have a child? Biologically?” He didn’t mean to pry, but he’d never heard of a vampire having a child before. As far as he knew, it was impossible in his dream world.
“Uh. I found him.” She rubbed the back of her neck. “While I was in France. Long story, he lost his parents, so I’m his mama now.”
Well that wasn’t what Finn had been expecting, but oddly enough, he believe her. Sure, she totally could have killed the child’s parents and taken him as her own, but he didn’t think that was the case. “Sounds like you were in the right place at the right time.”
“Yeah. it really kinda worked out. Had an adventure in the catacombs beneath the city.” Adventure. Understatement.
This woman’s adventures sounded like something that would have happened in his own dreams so it was almost insane to think that it had all been real life, “The catacombs with a baby certainly sounds interesting.” Having stopped to talk to Jubilee, Finn felt a little less on edge than he had before they’d run into one another, “Well, I should let you get home to your baby.”
"Yeah. Probably a good idea. I'm full." She patted her stomach and grinned at him, then decided to show off a bit. She hated turning into mist, so she went bat, and darted off into the sky.
