This was stupid. That was Raven's entire feeling about this whole thing. It was the first week of classes and she couldn't sleep. It wasn't even that it was stressful, nor had there been so much work assigned in the past three days that she had to stay up and work on them. No. She just couldn't sleep and hadn't been able to sleep since Wednesday night. Nothing worked. And no slept led to exhaustion. And nothing helped with that either. Coffee. Tea. Espresso shots. Even those gross 5-hour-energy shots didn't do anything. The one thing Raven knew by now was that it seemed to be a county issue. They had mentioned people falling asleep and not waking up on the news. Damian had mentioned his own sleep issues and there had been similar posts as well. Not that it made her feel any better.
Getting to school had been... interesting. Raven could have sworn that she was hearing chanting all around her, but there was nothing. Just chanting. Ominous chanting. Yet the driver didn't seem to notice it, which put Raven on edge. Well, more edge than she already was because of the lack of sleep. By now, all she wanted to do was just get through the day and pray that whatever was going on would end. Was that really too much to ask for? Probably. She had already tried to stay home but her father was in one of his rages (something about the warehouse that had blown up. She didn't ask) and so it was just better to go to school and find something to distract her all the while making sure not to pass out in class.
The first class, well, actual class and not zero period class, had just started when things started to get worse. The chanting was louder and on the book shelves she started to notice demonic looking ravens watching the different students. Blinking. Plotting. Birds could plot and no one was going to be able to convince Raven otherwise. Especially not now. They were definitely plotting something.
"Raven, is something the matter? RAVEN."
It was the teacher's voice that pulled her out of her head. Except that the ravens were still there.
"What was the question?"
It was too early for this. And Raven was one of the students who didn't zone out. She didn't speak out unless called on or she wanted to counter some idiotic response from another student, but this wasn't normal for her.
"Pay attention."
Groaning, she slid in her chair some, but the ravens didn't leave her alone. Instead they had started to circle overhead, squaking loudly. She could feel her heart rate accelerate, her breathing hitching as confusion and wary turned into panic and fear. And then it happened. A pencil shot straight into the air, through one of the demon birds and into ceiling, one of the lights shorting and going out. Completely tense, Raven stared at her desk and noticed...something..blackness...coming from her sleeves.
"No...."
Not thinking about how it looked (and honestly, things were already out of hand), Raven stood up suddenly, the desk scrapping the floor as her papers and notebook flew off it.
"Raven, what is--"
"I can't breathe. I need.. I can't..."
Scrambling to get her things, the terrified teen all but bolted out of the room. She knew there would be whispers and insults later, this was high school and if you didn't fall in line and acted strangely, you got ridiculed. But she didn't care. She didn't want to hurt anyone. She didn't want the demons to attack them and they kept chasing her. Into the hallway she stumbled into a body. Or she thought a body.
"No..you can't be here you're not REAL!"
Trigon. Dream!her's father.
"Daughter."
"I'm not your daughter!"
Backing away from the vision, from the pure evil and hatred that resonated from him, lockers banged open and shut, a trashcan falling over, beakers in a nearby science classroom exploding. Oh god oh god oh god. Curling up against one of the lockers and a wall, Raven clutched her head as she tried to disappear into herself.
She kept repeating the mantra over and over, praying that it would send the demons and Trigon away, praying it would stop the banging and whatever was happening her in that moment. Go away please just go away!
