Lucy was very much enjoying her new job even if she didn’t get free pie any longer. She was busy, useful and had fun too. Harry was pretty great for a boss as well, he listened when she kept him on track and they had begun to find a great working pattern.
She had a whole new wardrobe too thanks to her friend Celaena who had helped her shop for suitable clothes. She felt and looked the part of a PA, it was pretty exciting.
While both Peter and Caspian enjoyed pie, Peter didn’t mind that his sister wasn’t bringing it home all the time now. Not that Peter would eat too much of it, but he did tend to work out a little bit extra when there was pie in the house. Now, however, there hadn’t been pie in the house for about a week and Peter was okay with that. Not only that, but Peter was extremely proud of his little sister. When Lucy had first shown up on his doorstep, Peter had been worried that she’d get comfortable and settle for a job that would allow her to do a minimal amount of work in order to spend more time out at the beach or something. Of course that wasn’t Lucy at all, but being her big brother, it was understandable that Peter would worry even if it was for far fetched reasons. So he was very happy that she was moving up.
He had just gotten home from work and after a quick shower, had gone into the kitchen to figure out what to make for dinner and to also find out where Caspian was and when he was likely to be coming home.
Lucy was in the kitchen making tea and trying to think of what she could make for dinner too. Peter was the better cook but Lucy would give it a go, it wasn’t fair if they didn’t take turns after all. She was in jeans and a top now, as much as she loved her work clothes she didn’t want to lounge around in them at home.
She smiled at her brother when he came in, “Hey, good day?” she asked moving to get another mug down from the cupboard assuming he’d want tea as well.
“Hey. How long have you been home?” Peter asked as he entered the kitchen, smiling at his sister and nodding, “I did. Had a pretty routine day at the clinic. No losses.” Being a vet tech, Peter was usually front and center to assist the vet during any emergencies and he hated when there was any sort of loss, because it reminded him of Aslan and not having Aslan around was one of the worst things that Peter could imagine aside from not having Caspian around.
“Not long. About half an hour” she replied, “Last meeting was cancelled so here I am” she grinned. “I’m glad you’ve had a good day too. I was gonna make dinner, or try to anyway, anything you fancy? Or anything you know I can’t balls up” she winked at her brother. She knew his work could be hard on him emotionally, but he really was very good at it. It was nice to see him doing so well.
Peter chuckled and moved over to one of the cabinets and began glancing over the various things inside, “We could make dinner together. Are you in the mood for anything in particular?” He asked, glancing over his shoulder at his sister, basically asking her the same question that she had just asked him. “I’m thinking something quick. I don’t particularly feel like spending an hour cooking tonight.”
“How about omelettes?” she suggested, eggs were always in the fridge and they had cheese she knew that as she’d made a sandwich this morning for lunch at work. “They’re quick and tasty”
“Now that sounds like a good idea. And Caspian can make his own when he gets home,” Peter smiled and moved to get a frying pan out of the cabinet to set on the stove as well as a bowl to mix the eggs, “What else do we have in there? I think there are some mushrooms.” Peter had always looked after his younger siblings, even when their parents had been home, so having Lucy around reminded him of those times when they were younger, before he’d gone off to school.
“Unless we’re nice and do it for him” Lucy said, “If he’s tired or something” She didn’t mind cooking again later and then her brother and Caspian could relax a little together. She liked seeing them all cute and coupley, probably because she’d never seen her brother as happy as he was at times like that. “Oh yep, mushrooms. Got them” she said pulling them out of the fridge with the cheese and eggs. It was being looked after by her brother that likely made Lucy respect him so much, she appreciated everything he’d done for her and her siblings and even when he’d moved away for school he’d always been so good about letting her visit. Not many brothers would like their baby sister hanging around.
“I suppose we could always do that,” While Caspian could cook, Peter didn’t mind cooking for him, especially when he knew that his boyfriend would more than likely pout at him if he told him to make it himself and it’d take longer for Caspian to end up eating, “Then again, perhaps I should leave him to make his own after the cell phone incident.” He smirked at Lucy. Peter wasn’t still upset about the cell phone drowning incident at the beach, but he liked giving Caspian flack every now and then.
Lucy laughed, “You two are so awesome. And adorable even when you have a mini argument” she grinned over at him, “How long are you going to tease him about that? Aren’t replacements coming soon?”
“Only as long as I need to,” Peter smirked and cracked two eggs into a bowl and started whisking them. Peter and Caspian had had their fair share of actual fights over the years, so things like their cell phones getting ruined like they did wasn’t really something to fight over, considering that they were easy to replace. “You know, most guys wouldn’t want to hear that they’re adorable, but Caspian would probably eat it up.”
“Caspian knows I think he’s adorable” Lucy replied with a smile, “I mean, any guy who puts up with the number of little sister visits you had to put up with at boarding school has to be a keeper” Lucy had almost been a regular sight at the school and a number of Peter’s friends had gotten to know her. Her brother had hung the moon and stars and, honestly, not much had changed over the years. She’d been one of the first to know about him and Caspian and had kept the secret as long as they needed.
“I’m still surprised you were able to talk mum and dad into letting you travel out there then. And by yourself.” Edmund and Susan had each come to visit a few times while Peter had been away at school in Wales, but Lucy was the youngest and had only been around fourteen or so the first time she’d come out to visit by herself. “I don’t know what our parents were thinking, letting you stay in an all boy’s dorm.” He smirked at her as he finished mixing up the egg and turned the heat on on the stove.
Lucy had always been a more independent child and she'd simply worn her parents down over a number of weeks. And she had been determined not to let Peter forget her. "Oh come on, I was practically a boy anyway. I had zero interest in them. Now if they'd let Susan visit you more often that would have been quite different" Once Susan had discovered make up and boys there had been no turning back.
Peter laughed as he poured the egg mixture into the pan, “That’s true. I’m still not completely convinced that she never did anything with anyone.” Of course he didn’t want to know, but he’d heard various things back in school after visits from Susan and it was entirely possible that it had just been teenage boys exaggerating, but Peter wasn’t sure what to believe, “And what about now? Are you interested in boys and all that stuff now?”
"She never told me anything but honestly I wouldn't be surprised" Lucy loved their sister but the two girls never had much in common. And in truth Lucy didn't really want to dwell on it either, she'd gotten on well with everyone when she had visited and didn't want to consider one of them might have done something with Susan. "Not really" Lucy shrugged, "I'm not sure I'd know what to do if I was asked out or anything"
Peter smiled as he watched the egg mixture in the pan, “Get whatever you want in here ready.” He said, glancing over at his sister, “I’m sure mum and dad are glad that they don’t have to worry too much about you in that regard.” He was glad he also didn’t have to worry about Lucy. Being the oldest, he always worried about his younger siblings and Lucy dating would definitely cause him to worry. Not only that, but he knew he’d have their parents constantly asking him if he was keeping an eye on her.
Lucy nodded and moved to do as her brother said with a roll of her eyes at him for the parents comment. "You know I'm not ten anymore right? I mean I did just backpack around Europe on my own for months" she reminded him with a grin. Though she knew she'd always be his baby sister and therefore inspire worry.
“What? You’re not?” Peter put on a faux look of shock for a moment before smirking, “I know that, but what kind of big brother would I be if I didn’t worry about you? It’s part of my job as the eldest.” He picked up the various fillings that Lucy had supplied and began putting them in the pan with the omelette mixture.
“Ha Ha” she rolled her eyes at him before moving to get cutlery and plates, “Fine you can worry a little. But not about boys because there is nothing to worry about. I promise you’ll be the first to know if that changes” she grinned.
“I’ll settle for that.” Peter smiled and slip the spatula under one end of the omelette and folded it over, “Do you have a plate?” He glanced over at Lucy, ready to plate up her dinner.
Lucy nodded and handed a plate over, “I expect to be the first to know if you and Caspian decide to make the next move in your relationship too”
Peter glanced at Lucy as he put the omelette on the plate then moved to start mixing his own, “The next step? I suspect that you mean marriage?” Peter would be lying if he said he’d never thought about it before, because he had. It’d been almost ten years now so it was logical that he’d thought about marrying Caspian before, but until recently it hadn’t actually been legal in most places.
“Of course. I mean you guys have been together forever. Do you want to get married?” she asked curiously, not just for her own sake but for Caspian’s. It was adorable how much he wanted to marry her brother. And Lucy herself thought it was a lovely idea.
“Of course I do.” Peter didn’t even hesitate before he answered. He wanted nothing more than to marry Caspian, but he wasn’t entirely sure how to go about it. “But it’s complicated. I mean, who asks who here?” Logically, he knew that if he asked Caspian, his boyfriend wouldn’t feel like any less of a man for being the one asked, but he also didn’t know how he’d go about it. He didn’t think it had to be absolutely perfect, but it had to be at the right time.
Lucy smiled, “I don’t think it really matters. As long as it’s sweet and at a time that feels right I think either of you could ask the other. You should do it, if you want to” she encouraged.
Peter smiled at his sister as he mixed up his own omelette mixture, “You think he wants to marry me? I mean, he’s already pretty much stuck with me,” It was something they’d never really talked about before, but after almost ten years, it seemed like a logical route to go in. The only thing that was really standing in their way was Caspian’s uncle.
“I think he’d love to marry you. I mean you guys are practically there anyway right? And I think he wouldn’t mind being stuck with you officially” Lucy told him with a smile before taking a mouthful of food.
Peter smiled at his sister and nodded, “I think you’re right. We’ve already come this far, so getting married makes sense.” He poured his egg mixture into the pan then turned back to Lucy, “Don’t mention we had this conversation though, okay? I want it to be a surprise.” He couldn’t help but wonder now if it were possible that Lucy and Caspian had had a similar conversation. He could believe it, but he wasn’t going to assume anything.
“My lips are sealed big brother” Lucy promised with a smile, “I’d never want to ruin a surprise” she added moving to give him a quick hug before going back to her food. She hoped he’d ask soon, it was so exciting!
