Tony was down in the lobby. They had excellent chairs in the lobby. So much so that he was debating bringing one of them up to his lab for naps. Anyway, he had a roll of warm Shawarma in his hands, and was devouring it with barely contained enthusiasm. It was a monday, and Tony Stark was debating declaring all mondays officially shawarma days.
Jane was drenched. She had just gotten off the bus when the heavens opened and down came the rain. Making it into the lobby of Stark Tower, she headed to the chairs and all but collapsed into it with closed eyes and a heavy sigh. After a minute, she wiped the wet hair from her face and eyes and found herself looking straight into the eyes of Tony Stark. Yes. Apparently her day could get worse. “Uh...hi.”
Tony hadn’t stopped eating. He simply raised an eyebrow when the drenched woman flopped down into the chair opposite his. He was chewing when she moved wet hair from her face. He gave a great swallow and broke into a grin. “Hi.” He said, then took another bite.
"Sorry Mr Stark, didn't mean to interrupt your lunch," Jane apologised, running her fingers through wet tresses. "Is that any good?" She asked, nodding at the thing in his hand.
He chewed and swallowed before responding. Thoughtful, really. At least Tony Stark had good manners. Sometimes. “If I’d wanted privacy, I probably wouldn’t have chosen to eat in the lobby of Star Tower,” he teased, deadpan. “This? Yeah. Excellent. You want a bite?” He asked, holding the pita-looking thing out to her.
“Oh no, I’m good thanks,” Jane declined politely, taking her bag off of her shoulder and dropping it on the seat next to her. “It does smell good though,” she commented. “What brings you down to the lobby then?”
Tony glanced around, then to his sandwich, then back to her as if she was a little crazy. “I’m having lunch.” He said. Duh.
“Fair enough,” Jane shrugged in response. “How are things then?” she asked casually, taking off her wet coat, material pretty much peeling off of her skin.
“Mostly normal,” Tony responded, watching her peel off her soaked clothes. “Keep forgetting my umbrella. But I’ve got a spare wardrobe upstairs, so.” He took another bite. “You need a towel?”
“A towel would be great, but I don’t get a wardrobe in my office and I plain forgot to pack one for work this morning,” Jane joked, throwing a grin his direction.
“Hey, I’ve got towels upstairs.” Tony said. He crumpled up the wrapper from his food after his last bite, then stood. “C’mon.” Without waiting to see if she was following, he led her back to the elevators, then all the way to the one in the back. It went up to his, Peppers, and Jarvis’ offices exclusively.
Jane raised her eyebrows in surprise as Tony got up and moved past her. Not having to be told twice, she grabbed her bag and jacket before hurrying to catch up. Slipping her bag strap over her head and across her body, she watched as the lift arrived and followed Tony into it. “I can’t believe I’m in the Tony Stark lift,” she said, more to herself than him.
“Hey, enjoy it. Live it up.” Tony smirked as they stepped through the doors into the elevator. “You can dance if you want to.”
Jane grinned across at him. “Hey, I take joy in the little things in life,” she shrugged. “Elevators, shwarma, towels,” she joked.
“All very good things.” Tony responded with a nod. “That and chocolate. What else does a girl need?”
Jane tilted her head to one side as if considering. “Coffee. I need coffee,” she told him matter-of-factly.
A chuckle escaped him. “All right. Elevators, shawarma, towels, chocolate and coffee. That sounds like the best day ever.” A grin crossed his lips as he led the way out of the elevator int down his private corridor toward his office.
“Yup, pretty much,” Jane agreed, following her boss to his office. “Throw in a particle accelerator and I’m all yours,” she said said without really thinking as she gazed around the office curiously.
Tony chuckled. “Well, I’ve got one of those. You can sign up whenever you want to use it.” He slipped through the office and into his lab, straight over to a wardrobe where he pulled out a clean, white towel for her. “Unless you’re simply using me for my particle accelerator and my towels.”
“Oh wow, thanks,” Jane grinned. She’d been working for Stark for a few months now and she wasn’t sure he even remembered interviewing her. She accepted the towel from him with a smile and proceeded to towel off her hair. “This place is amazing,” she gazed around the room. “All this equipment...what a girl could do with all these toys…”
Tony didn’t remember interviewing her. Not really. He went through a lot of interviews, and hired a lot of people. Actually, he didn’t do a lot of firing. That might be something he should change.
He nodded once, then turned to glance around. The robotic arm, dummy, was having yet another time out in the corner. There were machines of pretty much every shape and size, and computers taking up the majority of the wall space.
An Iron Man suit stood in another corner.
“It’s my playground.” Tony said with pride.
“And it is such a cool playground,” Jane grinned at him.
