Celaena laughed at David as he cracked a joke while she backed out of the theatre doors. Waving to him and George, she turned around quickly and collided with someone on the street.
“Crap! Sorry, but no autographs. Only on show nights,” Celaena smiled at the boy, holding her hand out.
The last few weeks had been interesting ones for Damian. First he’d finished his dreams and found out that his father was actually alive in them, but of course that didn’t really make him feel much better since he still couldn’t find him in real life. Then he and Bran had started looking at places to buy or rent. Bran was finished with school and it only made sense to move before September. Damian was also still looking at schools, now that he had the money, so a lot had been happening.
He had visited another school that afternoon and had stopped to grab something to eat on the way home and was now walking back to where he’d parked his car, which brought him past a theater. As he walked past the entrance, he practically collided with a girl who was coming out, “I….what? Are you alright?” He took a step back to make sure that the girl was alright.
“Yeah, I’m fine.” Damian said, nodding as he looked her over to make sure that she was alright, “Sorry. I was a little preoccupied and didn’t realize anyone was coming out or how close I actually was to the door.” It wasn’t a lie, because he had been thinking about the information he had just gotten from the school as well as his most recent dreams.
Celaena saw his gaze run over her and she couldn’t help the cocky smile that came to her face. She was pretty confident in how attractive she was and remaining in top physical condition was a necessity for ballet so it was only natural he’d check her out. “That’s ok, I normally call security when people ‘run into me’,” she used air quotes for that with a teasing smile. “But for you I’ll make an exception,” she shrugged, shrugging her bag more firmly on her shoulder.
Damian hadn’t realized that his looking her over to make sure that she wasn’t hurt could come off as him checking her out in a different way. Having had only one girlfriend he still wasn’t all that used to flirting or things of that nature and certain things still went over his head, “Well, thanks for that. I wouldn’t want to have to beat up your security.” Whether he was joking or not, it would be difficult to figure out. but chances were, he’d actually be able to take down a couple of grown men.
“Ooo...now that I’d like to see,” Celaena teased, cocking her hip and resting a hand on it and smiling at him.
Damian nodded, “I was trained by ninjas, so I could easily take down a couple of grown men.” He smirked a little, not at all worried about giving away anything from his dreams or coming off as sounding crazy, because it was obvious that this girl thought he was flirting or something even though Damian hadn’t realized that it’d come off that way.
“Ninjas...hmm...I can imagine you look good all in black,” Celaena grinned slowly, looking him up and down appreciatively. “I’d like to see that,” she said, a challenge in her eyes.
Damian’s brows rose slightly at the girl’s statement and he hoped that he wasn’t blushing, “Well, find some thugs for me to beat up and maybe you’ll see it.” He wasn’t really sure what he was saying now. He was a little flustered now, his confidence slowly ebbing away and he tried desperately to hold on to it, “I’m Damian, by the way.”
“Celaena,” she introduced, holding out her hand to him. She liked teasing boys when they were getting flustered, it amused her. Damian seemed nice and a good sport for sparring with her. “Nice to make your acquaintance, kind sir,” she gave a little plié to him. “I’ll have to give you a rain check for now I’m afraid, I’m fresh out of thugs for you to beat up on,” she winked at him.
“It’s nice to meet you.” Of course he wished he hadn’t almost walked into her, but that didn’t really matter now, “The one time you have no thugs lurking in the shadows after you, huh?” He asked, smirking a little, his cheeks pink from her earlier teasing.
“You caught me,” Celaena held her hands up in mock defense as she joked. “My next delivery should be on saturday night though, so if you could come back sometime around then, that’d be great,” she laughed, only half joking. He was funny, a good sport and really quite attractive. It would be nice to see him again she figured. “Where were you off to in such a hurry then, Mr Ninja?” she asked, a glint in her eye.
“So, the alley over there then?” Damian asked, smirking as he pointed towards the alley where he was sure the side door of the theater was located. “I was just coming back from a campus visit. Grabbed something to eat and now I was heading back to my car.” He glanced from her then to the building she had come out of then back, “Are you an actress or something?” She had come out of a theater, so it was a reasonable assumption.
"That's the one," Celaena grinned. When he asked her what she did in the theatre she was almost affronted. She opened her mouth to reply angrily and stopped herself, reminding herself that she was still working on becoming the Prima. "I am a ballerina," she told him proudly, dipping into a graceful, low plié/bow in front of him as if it were the end of a show.
“Oh that’s pretty cool.” Damian almost asked if that meant that she was pretty flexible, but he stopped himself, not wanting her to think he was coming on to her and risk getting slapped, “Have you been doing it long?” He knew that most ballerinas danced all their lives, but he didn’t want to assume.
“Thanks!” Celaena smiled. “Oh, since I was about four. I had an aptitude for it, so now I’m home-schooled for my other subjects and I train everyday. Alongside training with the Bolshoi ballet every year who teach me Russian,” she told him. “What about you? Apart from being a ninja that is,” she winked at him.
“Wow. That’s pretty impressive.” Damian ran a hand through his hair, thinking about how he’d never been quite as passionate about anything in his life the way Celaena was about ballet, “Well, for the last year and a half I’ve been a little lost on what I wanted to do, but I’m finally gonna go back to school and for now, study general concentrations. The basics. Until I figure out what I really wanna do.” After all, there weren’t really any courses for teenage superheros.
Celaena narrowed her eyes, sensing there was something more to what he was saying but not calling him on it. “Cool! What does that entail? You looking forward to it?”
“The basics; math, english, history. That sort of thing. Figure I’ll do that for a semester and see if anything jumps out at me that I’d want to do for a living.” Truthfully, Damian now had enough money from the money his mother had left him that he didn’t actually have to do the whole nine to five job, but he didn’t want to rely only on that.
“Hopefully no thugs jumping out at you, wouldn’t want to ruin that pretty face of yours,” Celaena cast her appreciative gaze over Damian. “You’ll have to let me know,” she suggested, hoping he’d take the hint.
