Michael had been thinking about this ever since Gwen’s roommate had left to go home. It didn’t make sense to keep two places, not when they were spending more nights together than they were apart. He’d talked to his roommates in sort of general terms, asking how they’d feel about someone else moving in with them and they’d both been okay with it. Even though he hadn’t told them it was Gwen he wanted to move in, he knew they’d probably figured that out. He turned to give his girlfriend a smile, nervous all of a sudden as he got ready to actually ask her. “So I have a question for you and it’s kind of important for our future,” he said, the words out of his mouth before he realized how they could be interpreted. “I’m not asking you to marry me! We haven’t been together long enough for that,” he added, sounding a little panicked. He laughed at himself quietly. “Let me start over,” he took a deep breath before continuing. “I’ve been thinking about this since John had to leave. Do you want to move in with me? It just seems like it would make sense because we’re together more nights than we’re apart. And I own the house,” he said, looking her in the eye. “We could find places in the house for your furniture, get a storage unit for what doesn’t fit. Not just of your stuff but mine that we take out of the house. What do you think?” Gwen was a bit startled at his words, and then simply stared at him as a smirk slowly spread across her lips. One of her eyebrows raised as he seemed to babble. This had gone from a bit startling to highly amusing in three sentences. Her arms came up to cross her chest and she waited until he was finished to speak. “I would love to move in with you. Yes.” She said, nodding once. “There wasn’t a moment when a proposal even flashed across my mind.” Michael grinned when he heard her answer. “I already asked everybody at the house how they’d feel about somebody else moving in with us. I didn’t say it was you but they probably figured it out. And they’re okay with it. So...I guess we just need to figure out when we want to start moving your things in? And I just… panicked a little when I realized how it might sound,” he told her. “When I first started I mean.” Gwen chuckled softly, then took hold of his hand and laced their fingers together. She really couldn’t believe this was happening. It felt… right. A little scary, maybe, but she loved him. Very much. Nowhere in the world felt as safe or as comfortable as being in his arms. “It’s okay. It sounded fine. Um… I’ll have to give thirty days notice? So whenever. I’ll call my landlord and see if I can hand over the keys on July 30th or so. Or earlier? Might give him some time to clean and get a new tenant.” Michael squeezed her hand gently when she laced their fingers together and then brought her hand up to his lips to kiss it lightly. “Alright. Moving your things over slowly will give us time to find storage and all that for what we decide not to keep in the house. And set everything up just the way we want it.” It was his house yeah but it was going to be their home. Well with his roommates so he couldn’t make all the decisions about what stayed and what went by himself. It had to be a joint effort in the main parts of the house and him and Gwen both in their room. He smiled to himself as he realized that was the first time he’d thought of it as their home, their room and it felt right to think of it that way. “I’m not really all that attached to my things. Maybe a few pieces of furniture… but really, my place was sort of thrown together. Neither John nor I had a whole lot of money for nice stuff.” Gwen said, giving a shrug. It did feel nice to think about their room. Their home. “Are you sure your roommates won’t mind? I mean… this is a big change.” Not that she had any second-guesses or doubts of any kind. She loved him and couldn’t wait to wake up next to him every morning, fall asleep in his arms every night. “We’ll figure it out. Most of the furniture at my place was there when I moved in so the pieces you are attached to - we’ll fit them in. The game room in the basement is the only place where the furniture is non negotiable.” Michael told her, trying to give her a stern look but he was pretty sure his grin ruined it. “I’m sure they won’t mind. I asked them if they’d mind me moving somebody in and they didn’t mind and you know they like you. I didn’t tell them it was you, but I think they figured out it was you so I really don’t see them having any problem about you moving in.” “Good. Then it’s settled.” Gwen gave him a bright smile. “I wouldn’t dare touch any of your things in the Man Cave,” she added, then winked. “Now come on. We’ve got to find a pub because I’m starving. I need some proper Fish and Chips while I’m in the mother land.” Michael laughed at the comment about the Man Cave, “Hey now! You’re making it sound like we’re 12 or something with a tree house and a sign that says no girls allowed! We allow girls in the game room. They’re just not allowed to criticize our games or gaming,” he said winking at her to show he was teasing about the last part. He and Shane were pretty good at ignoring it when they got good into their games. “Fish, chips and a pint. For me at least. Because I cannot come to England, go to a pub and not get a drink. Lead the way,” he said, pointing back in the direction they’d walked up here from. |
