Who: Conner Kent and Tim Drake
What: Meeting for Tutoring
When: Backdated: Tuesday, June 24th. Afternoon
Where: Newport Harbor High School; Library
Rating/Warnings: Family Friendly
Status: Complete!

Kon’s first two days of summer classes had gone fairly well, despite the fact that he still didn’t want to be there. Getting up early in the morning in the summer was not something Kon wanted to do except during football camp, which he wouldn’t be going to if he didn’t pass his summer classes, so there really wasn’t any way around this. If he wanted to play football in the fall and graduate on time instead of staying back, he’d had to suck it up and go to summer school, but that didn’t mean he had to be happy about it.

The first day had primarily been about what they should expect over the next couple of weeks and the second day they had actually gotten down to business and begun actually doing stuff, which was why he was now in the library, after classes, waiting for his new tutor. He didn’t really think he needed to see him after only two days, but he was supposed to check in every day after classes, so here he was.

Unlike Kon, Tim wasn’t in any actual classes if Kon noticed. Tim was betting a million to one he didn’t notice though since his observational skills were minimal at best. Tim was given a chance to earn his credits by tutoring instead of retaking things he already knew, but that was equally pressuring. It meant his grade was riding on the two he’d been assigned to. One who very much didn’t seem to give a damn, And the other he couldn’t make a call on yet. She at least seemed to get how embarrassing it would be to be held back, but..for a third time? Or was it a fourth? ugh..

Either way he was drinking away a migraine with a tea when Kon approached. He raised an eyebrow. “You decided to show after all.” He was starting to think the guy wasn’t going to bother with his attitude. And he set down his tea. He was dressed like a normal person, even if in Kon’s eyes he was some sort of intelligent freak.

“Of course I showed up. If I don’t pass summer school then I can’t play football in the fall and I don’t want to have to repeat a grade either.” Kon knew it was his own fault for slacking during the last quarter, but really, half the stuff they taught them in school was so boring. Kon was dressed for the season in a pair of board shorts, a tank top and sandals and had every intention of going to the beach after he was done with this tutoring session. He needed something to help him relax after the last couple of hours in school. Sitting down across from Tim, Kon quirked a brow at him; the kid might have been a bit of a geek, but at least he was cute, not that Kon was going to come out and say that of course. “So, how does the whole tutoring thing work?”

Tim was secretive. Unlike Kon he wasn’t about to go spill his life story. Football player. Tim should have guessed. He sighed at the guys obvious lack of giving a damn about actual education and rolled his eyes. “Look, whatever. As long as you show up.” That was at least something he could hope for. Kon had goals, and Tim wanted to pass otherwise all this was a wash. “Your classes give you homework right? You write it down. I teach you how to do it properly. Do it right and it means you don’t have any to do at home.” Tim wasn’t even slightly paying attention to the strange look on Kon’s face otherwise he might have given him one right back.

“Yeah, they do.” Kon said, reaching into his backpack for his notebook, math book and science book, “Science and math today.” Science, math and history were the three classes Kon had failed during the second half of the school year and the classes he was currently attending during summer school. Kon had goals, just not the right ones all the time.

“Then science and math it is.” Tim took a drink from his tea again and peered up at Connor. “Thank you. For being on time.” First nice thing he managed to say to the other boy since meeting him. It wasn’t much, but it was a starting point in any case. Maybe if the other guy could muster up enough civility they would survive these tutoring sessions.

Kon shrugged, “Figured you didn’t want to be here any more than I do, so why should I make you late? Besides, it’s not like there’s much here for me to do to waste time anyway.” Now if his friends were there, there was probably something they could find to do instead of what they were supposed to be doing, but unlike Kon, his teammates had all managed to pass their classes. Kon was pretty sure he needed to learn to manage his priorities better, but it was just so difficult sometimes when a better opportunity came around.

Tim made a face. Kon finally caught on, so the kid wasn’t entirely dense. Tim didn’t elaborate on his comment though he just shrugged. “There is the comic section.” He commented offhandedly. “But no, we aren’t going to spend today reading comics.” The library had a terrible selection anyway. It was mainly supposed to be used for student research, less so for entertainment. So he sighed a little and ran a hand through his hair. “Did you bring everything you need?”

Kon quirked a brow at Tim and almost asked if he looked like the type who read comics, but stopped himself, not wanting to get on the kid’s bad side before they even started this long process of tutoring. “Yeah. Brought my books that I used today.” He gestured towards the math and science books he’d set down on the table already, “Didn’t really do much in science today. At least not anything I really need explained again, but the math, I’m still not getting.”

Tim shrugged a bit at the lack of response. Oh yeah, this was going to be a great summer. Stuck in a library with the boy who seemed to have little interest in school or being there. Not that he blamed him, he was just annoyed that his own schooling had gone down the wayside and for nothing that was even his fault. He’d tried to be a good son was all. “Lets just get started then..” And with that he ended idle conversation and tried to dumb down his words so Kon would understand.
