Zelda loved Baxter Bakery, though she didn’t come as often as she’d like. The idea that there were so many delicious and fattening things to eat there made her a little tense. But still, she could get herself a sparkling latte every once in a while and not feel too bad. She was doing a lot of working out, anyway, to keep her shape, so. Anyway, she’d asked James to meet her there so they could discuss her ideas about the way she wanted to do her hair and make-up for the wedding. She sat in a comfortable chair with a binder of wedding ideas in her lap, waiting.
James was all too happy to be working on Zelda’s wedding. He could do hair, not just for the unique costumes, but for an elegant affair, and honestly, those were some of his favorites. He had put a book of designs together, hair both worn up, and down with a variety of hair pieces. He could adjust anything and they could definitely do a trial run if needed. He had so many ideas in his head that he couldn’t wait to share.
He bounced into Baxter’s with his usual smile, waving at the ladies behind the counter. He set his bag down beside the chair and dropped into the seat. “So, how are you?” he grinned. “The wedding’s getting closer.”
Zelda had been staring off at the checkerboard linoleum on the floor, thinking about wedding stuff. The binder in her lap was a reminder that she had a lot of planning still to do! Her dress wasn’t made, the flowers weren’t ordered--though, at least she’d decided what kind she wanted--and she and Link hadn’t even talked about food. But at least this was one aspect of the wedding she knew she had under control. With James’ help, she knew this part would come off without a hitch.
A grin broke out across her face when she saw him drop into the chair and she turned to let her eyes focus on him. “Excited! I mean, really. I’ve got so much planning to do, but… I’m great! How are you??”
“I am absolutely insane, but we all knew that,” he grinned as a girl came to the table for coffee orders. He ordered a delicious white mocha with a peppermint stick, and a berry ripple scone. He was never one to turn down treats. “I moved in with my boyfriend, which is going so well.” It was one more thing that was going right. James had absolutely nothing to complain about at the moment, and while he was normally a very light-hearted guy, it was even more so now.
“So, how are those wedding plans coming?” Being married was a huge prospect, and just like a movie, it required a lot of thought, timing and nonstop work until the big day. It was exciting, but also exhausting, and frustrating. “What do you have left to do?”
Zelda laughed. Insane was a good thing! She was so happy for him, happy that his life was going well. She nodded, turning to the waitress to order a nonfat latte, and then gave James her full attention once more.
“I have almost everything left to do,” she admitted, sheepishly. “At least we’ve picked a date and reserved the castle. And I’ve started talking to the seamstress who is making my dress.”
James looked a little surprised, but he knew that Zelda could pull it together in perfect detail. “Alright, so how long do we have?” he asked. He was already making mental notes. He lived by the calendar, letting him know where to be, when to be there, and any looming deadlines. This was going to be a big one, but he was ready.
The waitress was back, placing their orders on the table. James sampled his coffee, smiling. “Perfect as usual.” He needed as the girl left, turning back to Zelda. “Who is making the dress?”
“Her name is Lulu? She’s on Valarnet. That’s how I found her.” Zelda said, then she reached forward to pull a drawing out of her binder. It was the gown she wore in the dreams, complete with the Triforce symbol on the apron-like-thingy, purple and with the crazy shoulders… really pretty. At least, Zelda hoped it’d be. “I know it looks weird, but… this is what I wear in the Dreams. And I think Link would like it.”
James took the binder, looking over the page. The dress was unique. “What is that symbol? Is that from the dreams?” The symbol itself was made up of a few triangles. James wasn’t sure of it’s significance. “It is beautiful, and nice that you can make it one of a kind. You definitely don’t want to look like everyone else.” No, not in Hollywood. That was a cardinal sin.
“Okay, so hair? How would you like it? My first impression says up, but then I can see it down too.” He tapped the pen in his hand on the page, trying to decide how to give her the perfect look for the dress.
“Maybe… half-up?” Zelda said, lifting some strands from the side of her face, twisting them and pulling them back behind her ears. They were far more pointed now than they’d ever been before. “I mean, I want it to be original. A hairstyle that no one’s ever used before.” She was glowing as they talked and planned.
James stood, taking note of the sides and the positioning. Of course, he would give it the precision needed for a wedding, also adding his own spin. He noticed her ears right away. “Wow, what’s that going on? Are those ears one of those weird dream gifts?” He tried to keep himself from staring at them. He hadn’t gotten anything yet and it seemed like he was going to stay human. He wouldn’t mind getting his very own Pokemon. “What earrings are you wearing? The hair also has to make the earrings noticeable.”
“Oh,” Zelda actually went slightly pink at that. “Yeah. They’re getting ridiculous, aren’t they? Really long and pointed… I think Link’s are growing out, too. It makes us feel more at home, I think.” She said, lifting her hands to feel along her ears. “Honestly, I forget about it most days. I’ve got some simple diamond studs that I’ll be wearing. Nothing to distract from the dress.”
“I’m pretty much human in my dreams. However, if I do get anything, my hair will be blue.” The only thing that came to mind when it came to her ears was an elf. She and Link were both elves. “I don’t know how much I can forget about my hair once it turns blue, but I will twist it into my own fashion statement.” Where James was concerned, he could actually make that work. “I just wanted to make sure the earrings showed as well. Every detail is important.”
“Are you sure it’s going to turn blue?” Zelda asked. “My hair is … it’s been blonde and brown in the dreams. Weird, huh? But it’s almost like I’m living out different stories, and the common denominator is that Link saves me every time.” She lifted her hands to twist her hair up behind her head, as if she was putting it into a bun, then dropped it back down again, idly. “We can do a couple of trial runs when I’ve got the dress, just to make sure we have everything the way we like it.”
“I don’t know, really, but if it does, it will be awesome. This is Hollywood. Blue hair is nothing. It’s not a Mohawk or anything. I will just have to adjust my wardrobe accordingly,” he grinned. Nothing really brought James down. That was just his nature. “I think I’ve got it,” he said as he watched her. He could definitely pull most of it up, but leave loose strands to frame her face. He could also make it shine like a waterfall, letting the diamonds in the earrings sparkle through blonde strands. “I’ll lighten it a little, just so the ends stand out that much more. It will be perfect.”
Zelda beamed. The way he looked at her hair, his words, his smile… she knew she’d picked the perfect person for the job. “That’s amazing. It’s exactly what I was hoping for.” She gave a little squee of excitement. “I can’t wait! I just can’t believe it! It’s coming so quickly!”
“It will be amazing,” he replied. He had always loved love. Weddings made him happy. “We will get together the week before and try some things and make the final decision, then I want you in for the coloring a couple of days before the wedding, just to let it settle. Then we go to work.”
“Perfect. I love this plan.” Zelda said. She was confident that she’d chosen the right person for the job. “We’ll do the coloring here before going to Scotland, and a double-check once we’re there just in case. Eee! I’m so excited!”
“Scotland? It’s in Scotland! We are going to Scotland!” Oh now that sounded so nice. Getting married in Scotland meant castles, which would be so elegant and perfect. This was a wedding dream, and he was maybe going to Scotland, if that was what she meant. This kept getting even better.
“Yeah! I’ve reserved a huge castle. You should see it! Why didn’t I bring the program with me??” Zelda said, giving a gentle ‘aww’ and smacking herself in the forehead. “I’ll email you all the details about it.” She broke into a grin. Nothing could keep her down, so it seemed.
“You better! Scotland, I can’t believe it. I’m going to Scotland to do hair,” he said, excited for both the chance and the trip. He couldn’t wait to get home to tell Piers, hoping that he would come along with him. After the wedding, they could see the old castles, and maybe have a picnic on the countryside. The opportunity was amazing, and he was going to take advantage of all the benefits.
