Actually caring for a child was a grand adventure, as far as Luthien was concerned. Between Dior and writing her next album, she’d been quite busy, so she thought that she and Elphaba deserved some time to themselves. That meant foisting the boy on an unsuspecting but willing friend, and taking Elphaba out for romance and dance. And a really, really expensive dinner. She wore a shimmering silver dress that exposed her back, with a deep v-cut at the neck.
Elphaba had pulled out one of her posh green dress from her wardrobe since it was a special ocassion. Since taking custody of Dior it had been a little difficult to take time out for themselves. Tonight, Lúthien had asked someone to babysit and they had gone out for a top of the range night out. They’d had a wonderful meal, great wine and adult conversation. Now, with the soft music from the small jazz band playing in the background and waiting for their dessert to be served to the table Elphaba reached across the table and took hold of Lúthien’s hand, rubbing her thumb across the back of her fianceé’s knuckles. She gazed down at the joined hands, a soft smile playing on her lips.
Luthien closed her eyes, enjoying the closeness of Elphaba’s hand on her own. She could almost listen in on her thoughts, but that was something fairly rude to do. Elves could share thoughts, and Maia even more so, but she didn’t like to frighten Elphie when she could help it. Besides, she prefered the other woman to share her thoughts the normal way. It did make reading her mood easier. And it was a good one, she thought. “Did I tell you how good you look right now?”
“With your eyes closed? No,” Elphaba teased gently, grinning at Lúthien cheekily. “Besides I pale in comparison to you in that dress. I don’t think I’ve seen it before,” she commented, squeezing Lúthien’s fingers gently.
She opened her eyes, letting them roam over Elphaba. “It’s new. I wanted to surprise you. I’m a big fan of romantic gestures.” Luthien winked at her, then lifted the other woman’s hand to her lips. She’d always liked it when Beren had done that.
Elphaba smiled brightly across the table at her. “Well in that case, would you care to dance with me m’lady?”
“That is an offer I can never refuse,” Luthien said. Her feet started to bounce a little - it didn’t take much to get her into a musical mood, and sharing a dance with a beautiful woman.
Elphaba stood from the table, still holding Lúthien’s hand and moving from the table to the dance floor. Once there, she slipped her other hand around Lúthien’s waist and started them swaying to the soft, slow music after placing a kiss on her cheek.
“Mm…” Luthien let her body sway against Elphaba’s, resting her face against her cheek and nuzzling lightly. “Who knew you were such a romantic? I am the luckiest woman alive.”
“I’m only a romantic because of you,” Elphaba replied softly with a contented smile. “I wouldn’t have dreamed of doing anything like this before I met you,” she pointed out happily.
“That’s nonsense,” Luthien said, her tone playfully scolding. “You’re beautiful and charming. You would have met someone eventually. Though I’m rather glad it’s me.” She pressed her forehead against Elphaba’s. “You are so sweet and kind.”
“Just rather glad?” Elphaba teased quietly, rubbing her nose against Lúthien’s. “Well, I’m rather glad then that you agreed to marry me too,” she grinned.
"I wonder what I was thinking," Luthien teased. "Unbridled happiness was too appealing to pass up." She nudged her hips against Elphie's, feeling playful, feeling wild, and then spun around with her to the music. Always in motion, even in the most subtle of ways, but tonight she wasn't feeling subtle.
“Well obviously you went insane when we met and have yet to recover,” Elphaba deadpanned. “Not that I’m complaining,” she smiled.
“I have completely lost my mind, but is that not love? The losing of one’s self and the taking in of another?” Luthien’s life story was practically all about love, at least if you asked the people who wrote it.
“You writing poetry as we dance?” Elphaba smiled, the thumb on Lúthien’s back started rubbing back and forth. “Or are they lyrics for your next song?”
“A little of..oh..” She shivered, Elphaba’s thumb distracting her. She hummed the word ‘both’ and smiled at the other woman, her expression enraptured. “Freestyle.”
“Freestyle huh?” Elphaba repeated in a low tone, a slow smile spreading over her face. “Is that what we’re to expect from your next album?” she asked.
“I don’t know, maybe.” Luthien’s eyes glimmered with pent up mischief. “Perhaps I should extend out into other genres. All music is wonderful. I’ve a particular fondness for hip hop.”
Elphaba gave a little laugh. “No offence love, but I can’t see you turning to rap music anytime soon,” Elphaba smiled. “I don’t think I’m ready to be anybody’s ho,” she joked.
“Now I have to try it,” Luthien said, looking dead serious, save for the gleam in her eyes. “Perhaps a collaboration then, with someone who’s more experienced in that genre.”
“So you’d be someone’s ho?” Elphaba asked, pretending to be outraged. “I don’t think so, they’d have to get through me first,” she lowered her voice. “And I can do magic,” she joked.
Luthien laughed, and kissed Elphaba to cut off any further protests. “I am yours, always. But it is always fun to try new things.” She winked. “We should. Try new things.”
When Lúthien pulled away from their kiss, Elphaba was left in a bit of a daze. Boy her girl could kiss! “I...wha...new?” she liked her lips and swallowed. “Try something new? Like what?”
She laughed again, flicking her tongue out to tease Elphaba’s lips. “I do not know, perhaps we could get adventurous. I’ve always had a thing for feathers.” There was a long pause, before she admitted. “And handcuffs.”
“Uhh…” Elphaba’s mind went blank as Lúthien spoke. “I...I don’t know...feathers...maybe, but…” she trailed off, thinking The handcuffs still bring back bad memories for me.
The elf bit her lip and shook her head. “I’m sorry.” She’d put her mind so far from the events where she’d split into two that she’d forgotten about it, but the expression on Elphaba’s face didn’t require any elvish telepathy to understand. “I should have realized that would still be...bad for you.”
Luthien didn’t have enough words for how sorry she was about that. Even though it hadn’t been her it had still been a part of her, and she’d done a fantastic job of denial about the whole event.
“It’s ok, it just...it’s going to take a while to get over is all,” Elphaba smiled sadly, dropping her eyes from Lúthien’s. She didn’t want to deny Lúthien anything, but she wasn’t ready yet. “I love you, I don’t want you to ever forget that,” she held her closer with one arm, lifting a hand to touch her face reverently. “And I love Dior too. You two are the most important thing in my life.”
“If I spend the rest of my life making up for that, it won’t be long enough,” Luthien whispered, fervently. She closed her eyes, leaning into Elphaba’s touch. There was much comfort and joy to be taken from such a simple gesture, and she always relished it. Love was something to be celebrated, not taken for granted.
Elphaba stroked her thumb across Lúthien’s cheek and smiled, running her gaze over her fiancé’s face. “What say we get out of here?” she suggested quietly.
The elf’s smile grew wider. “Lead me where you wish to.”
