Who: Allison and Ned
What: Interviewing for the waitress position
When: Mid June
Where: The Pie Hole
Rating: G
Status: Complete

Classes were done for the semester which meant Allison had all this newfound free time on her hands. She decided she’d take a couple online classes over the summer but she still wasn’t sure what she was going to do. So fortunately for her Ned had made it known that he was in need to hire a couple waitresses at his restaurant, The Pie Hole, and Allison jumped at the opportunity. Now she had never actually had a job before but the brunette did love pie. And she really knew that she could do anything that she set her mind to so she was hoping that he would disregard her lack of experience and give her a chance.

The drive from her apartment to the restaurant was short and from her new place Allison was sure the drive would be similar if not shorter. Making sure the girl looked interview ready, Allison smoothed her blouse and took a deep breath before getting out of the car. Walking in, the brunette smiled wide as she immediately recognized Ned from behind the counter. “Hello” She greeted warmly and walked up closer and stuck out her hand “I’m Allison Argent here to interview about your waitress position”.

Now that Ned had more or less hired Peeta as his assistant baker, he just had to finalize a start date and salary with the younger man, he needed to hire at least two more members of the wait staff and luckily he got two girls interested in the post he’d recently made at Valarnet and now he was currently waiting for one of them to come in for an interview. Ned never really held formal interviews, choosing instead to talk to potential employees to simply get to know them and their personality. Previous experience didn’t always mean someone was going to be a good employee so Ned usually simply went with his gut.

When the bell over the door rang and the brunette walked in, Ned had just returned to the counter after talking to a regular customer and he smiled as she approached, “It’s nice to meet you, Allison. I’m Ned, but you probably already knew that.” He extended his hand to shake hers then gestured towards an empty booth, “Wanna sit down?”

“It’s nice to meet you too Ned” Allison exclaimed excitedly and shook his hand promptly and firmly. The nerves that came with something like a job interview started to make her stomach feel bad but she just smiled through the ache. So far there was no reason to be nervous since she had just barely gotten there and the guy seemed friendly enough. Nodding in response Allison replied verbally just to reiterate her actions. “Oh yeah sure.” Going over to the booth that he gestured to and sliding into the seat.

“You have a really nice shop by the way.” The brunette noted as she looked around the shop and for the first time really taking in the scent of whatever pies were baking at the moment. If she was given the opportunity, Allison was going to love working here. “Seriously, I love pie so much so the fact that you were hiring made me so excited. How long have you had the shop? And I don’t exactly have any experience so is that going to count against me?” Allison asked and knew that she was rambling because she did that when she was nervous. “I’m sorry, I’m rambling. Here I am asking you questions when it should be the other way around.”

Ned smiled as he joined Allison at the booth, sitting down across from her. “This shop I’ve had for a few months. I have another shop in Boston. This is my second.” Ned didn’t mind the questions at all. He thought that it only made sense for her to find out more about the place she might possibly work at, “I don’t think experience is necessary when it comes to this. I think that something like this is better to learn as you go.” Besides, it wasn’t as if serving pie was too difficult, “How long have you lived in Orange County?” It was Ned’s turn to ask a few questions now.

The brunette’s eyes widened when Ned informed her this this was just his second shop. That was pretty impressive in her eyes since from what she heard, running a business wasn’t a walk in the park. “Wow that's pretty awesome. You must really like being able to run a business then” she said with a grin. She wondered if the shop back in Boston was a pie shop too but wasn’t going to ask. It probably was.

“Really? Then I already appreciate your way of thinking. A lot of people require experience for jobs, which is understandable, but hard for those who are trying to gain experience.” She said with a shrug since unfortunately that’s how life seemed to go these days. “Oh okay well I guess I’ve been here almost a year now. I just finished up my freshman year at UC Irvine so in August it would be a year.”

“I do. I really do enjoy it.” Ned enjoyed baking, pies especially, and he enjoyed getting the opportunity to share the pies that he baked with other people, “And I agree completely. So many businesses turn people away because they don’t have any experience instead of giving them the opportunity to get that experience from them.” Ned preferred to give people the chance to gain that experience so that they could possibly go on to bigger and better things in the future, “Where are you from originally?”

Allison nodded and found that he enjoyed pie making and his business as refreshing so she commented “Then it sounds like you are one of the few who end up really loving their career choice. Which is the only way to go when having a job. If you don’t love it then you won’t do it well”. Hearing that he agreed with her that most places tended to not accept people without job history was a relief since he had said earlier that experience wasn’t entirely necessary. “Arizona actually. Phoenix to be specific. I like it there although it certainly isn’t as interesting as the OC is turning out to be” She said with a laugh.

“It’s always better to do something you enjoy,” Ned knew that not everyone was as lucky as he was to do exactly what they wanted and he was grateful every day that he got that chance, “I’ve never been to Arizona. I’ve always heard that it’s really nice though.” Ned hoped, someday, to travel and see other places, but for now that other place was Orange County and he was okay with that.

“Arizona is nice, you could say. It is really hot there since it’s mostly desert in some spots. So summers are brutal. And there are a lot of native american reservations as well as some beautiful landmarks like the Grand Canyon and the petrified forest.” Allison went on to kind of describe a little of her home state which she knew probably sounded boring. Or at least it did now that she was saying it out loud. Either way she knew it probably didn’t matter too much. “So, waitressing” The brunette started as she had almost forgot about why she was in the restaurant to begin with “I may not be experienced but I’m really good at remembering things and doing math in my head. Also I am a fast learner.”

Ned listened as Allison talked about her home state. It definitely sounded like a place he’d need to visit someday, “Right. Waitressing. Unlike other places, it’s fairly easy here considering it’d just pie. The pies are all labeled so it’s easy to find the right one and they’re all on the carousel over there, in the window between the kitchen and the counter,” He gestured towards the counter where another waitress was currently cutting a piece of pie, “Plates are under the counter along with utensils and anything else. The cash register is also pretty easy to figure out and I can teach you that when you start.”

Allison nodded her head along as Ned spoke about the job. She figured since it was just pies that she wouldn’t exactly be able to mess up too bad, since she always feared the worse. :Right, just pies, of course.” She replied with a small laugh since they were in a pie shop after all. Of course pies were going to be the main thing she would handle. She followed his gesture over to the counter and her eyes fixated on the carousel with the pies on it that he was talking about. She kept nodding her head and mentally trying to remember everything that Ned was saying until she stopped at his last words. “When I start...?” She asked tentatively as she wanted to make sure she was hearing the man correctly. “Does this mean I’m hired?” She asked again a little more excited this second time a smile started to grow on her face.

Ned smiled and nodded, “Yes. You’re hired.” He liked Allison’s personality and she seemed like a really good person and upbeat and he thought she would be a nice addition to The Pie Hole, “When is a good time for you to start?” Considering the time of year, if Allison had any vacation plans coming up, he didn’t want to tell her when to start and have it clash, so it was better to ask her.

“Oh my gosh thank you so much. You seriously will not regret this decision at all I swear!” Allison remarked excitedly as she had not expected to be hired immediately. She was really happy about that though since all her searching for a job had finally paid off. “I can start whenever you want me to!” She exclaimed knowing that her days were pretty much open since even though she was taking classes, they were online. So she was willing to cater to his schedule so to say. “Thank you again!”
