Where: Target
What: Shopping together, checking in
Rating/Warning: Low/None
Status: Complete!
Note: With Charlie leaving the game, I'm not sure how I'm going to handle Verity... probably a retcon of her relationship with him. So this log might not make sense with that change. We decided to post it as is, as it's good, but most of the conversation may have to be retconned.
Rebekah had reached that point in her life where she loved going to Target and she usually bought far more than she actually needed. She decided to send Verity a text earlier in the day and see if she wanted to come along since she hadn’t seen her friend since Natalia’s birthday and spent some of May hiding with her gender change. Now it was finally getting nice out (after the strange frost!) and she wanted to get Natalia out of the house. She walked inside the store and was situating Natalia in the seat of the cart when she saw Verity enter and lifted a hand to wave, “Hey!”
Verity turned at the voice, then broke into a huge smile and headed over. “Hey!” She had Christina sitting in the cart’s seat, situated in one of those thick, cloth covers. They’d just picked up a Starbucks Coffee drink at the in-store stand. “It’s so good to see you!” It’d been weeks since they’d seen each other, and Verity thought that just wouldn’t do. So much had changed in her life in the last few weeks! She was excited to catch up with Rebekah.
“It’s great to see you too. Sorry I haven’t been around much. Lots of craziness going on at my place. Stefan’s brother is getting married and the genderswap happened at my place. I’m just so burned out on the weird OC things that I wanted something normal,” she commented with a laugh as she finished buckling Natalia and then moved the cart so the two of them could start shopping, “what about you?”
“Hey, that’s okay.” Verity said, stepping forward to give Rebekah a brief hug once Natalia was buckled into the seat. “I didn’t get hit with the genderswap, and no weddings in the foreseeable future,” ...except possibly mine? ...sometime soon? “but the frost had us all in a tizzy. And… And Charlie and I are official now, so…” She blushed furiously. “I’ve been a bit distracted, myself.”
“Ooooo, that’s adorable,” Rebekah commented with a playful tease in her voice. She was so happy to see Verity with someone finally. Someone good that would help with Christina and hopefully not just disappear on her. Verity definitely deserved the good in life. “I haven’t really spoken to him much, so maybe we’ll have to arrange some type of double date!” That would be a lot of fun and she knew Stefan loved going out.
“I’m sure he’d love that.” Verity responded with a bright smile. The blush was still on her cheeks. Talking or thinking about Charlie definitely brought that out in her. The blush, the shyness, the giddy smile. Charlie was fairly social, too, and so long as the two pair had something in common (daughters around the same age) they’d get on really well. Stefan and Charlie could bond over changing diapers. Just the thought made Verity even more excited. “I mean, I’d love it, too! You should come over for dinner some night. Bring the whole family. We’ll have a dinner playdate.”
“That sounds perfect,” she grabbed her cell phone out of her purse and opened up the calendar, “Hm, I should be free sometime this week. My weekends are going to get crammed soon since my brother-in-law is getting married. But if we do a weeknight it would totally work. I’m really excited about this now.” A double dinner date sounded great especially if they just got to hang out at someone’s house because it was way less stressful for everyone.
“Weeknights would be fine for us, too.” Verity pulled out her own cell phone to start flipping through the calendar days. Just let me know when… and I’ll make some really amazing food for dinner! Or, well, I’ll make Charlie cook.” She said, grinning softly.
“Alright, let me send a text to Stefan and we can figure out a day by the time we leave here. And we’ll make some food as well - do a big potluck dinner or something. And a man who cooks? Good choice,” Rebekah teased a little with a laugh as she pushed her cart, “So, what are we shopping for? I need some new clothes for Nat before it gets too hot out.”
Verity laughed softly. “Oh, he does a whole lot more than cook. He changes diapers, too.” She grinned a bit. “Anyway, maybe we can do something for the Fourth of July? I mean, it’d be wonderful to get the kids together somewhere safe. I’ve been thinking about putting a little wade pool in the backyard to keep the babies cool.”
“Aww, that sounds like a good idea. I need to start thinking about Nat taking swimming lessons in the near future. And maybe Fourth, not 100% sure if my family has anything going on or not. Stefan’s brother is getting married, so there’s all sorts of things with holidays and new couples. I know thanksgiving was a huge thing right after we got married, but I will let you know for sure on that,” Rebekah made a mental note to talk to Stefan tonight about that, “and kudos on finding a guy that will happily change diapers.”
Verity nodded. She’d completely forgotten that Steve’s birthday was on the Fourth. She’d gone to a barbeque at his place last year, and would likely get an invitation again. But that wouldn’t take up the whole day--especially since Christina was likely to get tired and need to nap at home. “Or another day. I know how family can tug us in all sorts of different directions,” Verity beamed. “He’s pretty amazing. He plays the guitar and sings… I’m really lucky.”
“Family is such a pain especially when your family is as big as mine and just keeps growing. I feel like everyone is getting married and such and our family is just expanding. I finally have a ‘sister’ in Elena, which is pretty awesome though,” Rebekah walked along the aisle and then giggled when Verity got all dreamy about Charlie. She couldn’t help but grin - it was so great to see her friend happy, “Oh man, you’ve got the perfect man. I’ve got a model, but he doesn’t play guitar. So sexy.”
