There was that one ache that wouldn’t go away. Normally the day after a brawlfest with Logan was filled with beer (to ease the aches) and food (to ease the hangover she inevitably got with drinking with a man who can’t really get drunk). But today it was mostly why is my face on fire still and ice. She finally caved after the rest of the aches chimed in. She was sporting a nice black eye that was still swollen and hurt to touch more so than a usual black eye, and her left hand was all shredded up from where she’d missed and nailed concrete. So she did what any injured person would do and head to the clinic. Not that she wanted to but she kind of figured that black eye might be a little more problematic than originally thought. She bandaged up her left hand, and covered head to toe otherwise and headed out. She ignored the stares in the waiting room. Yes, she knew it was hot. Yes she knew she was in long sleeved everything. No, she didn’t care to tell you why.
Logan would have offered her to zap his healing factor, but she hadn’t asked and it wasn’t polite to just zap yourself onto someone.
It was a busy day in the clinic, filled to the brim with sniveling and screaming kids, a man with a large nail through his hand, and a woman with a burn on her arm. The man just looked bored, and was flipping through a magazine like everything was hunky dorey with the world. One kid wiped her nose on Rogue’s sweater.
He was seen next, then the woman with a burn, and finally Rogue was called up. The nurse did the usual check up before the doctor showed up. Claudine was a buxom woman with dark hair and not enough buttons closed on the shirt she wore under her lab coat. She looked at Rogue with a professional air, though there was something predatory about her. That was, at least, until she smiled and gave Rogue a concerned look. “You look a mess. Is there any...do you need a place to stay?”
Rogue is polite. She would never ask that of Logan. It's just rude! Although she might next time.
Rogue bore it all with stoic silence, shedding the sweater and choosing to forget it. One she was taken back she shied from the nurse taking her vitals until she was sure no skin would touch.
She didn't even offer to shake Claudine's hand. She cracked into a grin. "Nope. Ahm fine. Got into a bar brawl.".sorta. it was after the bar. But whatever. "Normally ah wouldn't bother but the eye socket feels weird, maybe ah hurt it more than ah thought."
Claudine nodded her head and pulled on her gloves. “Lets get a feel, and then we’ll run some x-rays and clean you up.” She’d get more than enough blood for a sample, she thought. After all, it wasn’t often that a mutant from one’s dreams walked in.
Dreams she still had difficulty with. Dreams that made her question her own identity. She’d been Claudine, and now she was Nathaniel, and she didn’t know what happened to her, or why she dreamed she was this man.
It was almost enough to make her question her own methods. Almost.
Rogue was a patient patient, she hated doctors but she needed to make sure her eye was good. She hoped she didn't crack the socket or her cheek, but it was possible.
She waited to be poked and prodded, wincing as it was pushed on. At least she had a good pain tolerance. "Sounds like fun." Not. She would bear it all with more patience than she thought she had.
Poking injuries made her cranky. She'd eyeball getting a blood sample, she didn't think she needed bloodwork for this but she didn't know better.
“I’d like to run a blood test, just to make sure you didn’t pick up any pathogens during the fight,” Claudine said, sounding perfectly reasonable. “But I don’t think your eye is anything other than badly bruised. The x-ray will tell me if you’ve got a hairline fracture.”
Rogue gave her a look then nodded. “Sure, fair enough, was outside and wasn’t exactly a clean looking guy.” she smirked a bit. “Good. It hurts more than ah usually have so ah was worried.”
She nodded, and gathered up some vials. “I once had a patient who insisted on watching the blood bubble up into the vial. It was a nice departure from the usual fear and occasional screaming.”
“Ain’t scared of blood draws, they’re just annoying is all.” she shrugged a bit before she sighed and rolled a glove down far enough to get to a vein. Yeah she didn’t like that part but oh well.
She jabbed Rogue, and got to work on the blood while a nurse prepped the x-ray station. “Almost done, then we’ll wrap you in lead and take a picture of your face.” She smiled cheerfully at Rogue.
"Thanks, gotta love being wrapped in lead" she rolled her eyes then winced a bit. That stung. "Ah should get a copy and hang it on my wall"
“If you want. I won’t tell anyone,” Claudine smiled, a little too cheerfully. “All done. If you’ll step this way we’ll get that x-ray and then get you a prescription for the pain.”
“That’d be awesome.” Rogue was a little weird but that was okay. “Alright then” The overly cheery was making her worry. No one was that cheery all the time. She got up, and followed her to the xray room.
“Relax.” Claudine seemed like the kind of doctor who was just trying to put her patient at ease. “I’m sure you’ve done this before.”
“Sure, a few times.” she shrugged and let them fuss and get her xrayed. She was itching to get out of here already, she hated spaces where she wasn’t able to get out of quickly. She couldn’t wait to go home. Her face hurt.
It didn’t take long before Claudine had the x-rays done and ready. The nurse put them up on the light, and Claudine traced her finger along Rogue’s eye on the x-ray. “I think you’re lucky. I’ll write up your prescription. Then we’ll get you taken care of.”
“Lucky’s mah middle name.” she muttered with a smirk. “Works for me.” she wanted to go lay down on a bag of peas and sulk it off. Someday she’d have to ask, this not healing thing was a bit of a bitch.
“Try to avoid any more street fights,” She said, and winked, before disappearing into another waiting room.
