This was it. Darcy needed answers. She wasn’t going to be an asshole about it, but they definitely had to talk. She was paranoid. She didn’t know if it was rightfully so or not. But she was scared. Because she had real and genuine feelings for him. And she needed to tell him that instead of running away all the time. It was complicated, and yes she thought she’d done something to fuck everything up. She hadn’t really told Roy that she was coming over. She’d just texted Lian and asked if her father was home. He had been, so she came over.
Going up, she knocked on the door and hoped that this wouldn’t end with her in tears. Doubtful, but maybe.
The case had finally been solved. The murderer arrested and behind bars. Roy could finally relax until the next case, which hopefully wouldn’t take quite so much time away from his family and friends, which included Lian and Darcy most of all. He’d hated the fact that most nights he got home too late to really spend any time with his daughter and only got to really see her in the morning before school, so his plan was to spend the night with his daughter then call Darcy in the morning to see if she was free for the weekend.
Darcy had been acting a little off recently and Roy didn’t know why, so he really wanted to spend some time with her; after all, she was the first woman that he’d gone out with in a long time who he felt so strongly about and he needed to make sure everything was alright. Hearing the knock at the door, Roy thought it was the chinese food he’d ordered for him and Lian, but upon opening the door, he saw it was Darcy, “Hey. You’re not chinese food.”
Yeah she had been acting weird. She couldn’t help it. It was hard not to act weird when you thought you were getting dumped. When he opened the door, she stood there looking kind of dumb. Like she didn’t know what she was doing there. Sheepish. “Uh.. hey. No, sorry. Am I interrupting? I can come back later if I am.” She didn’t want to do that. Though this had to be done sooner rather than later.
“No, of course not. I had just ordered food for Lian and I,” Roy smiled and moved aside to allow Darcy to come inside. It wasn’t like her to just show up, but he wasn’t going to turn her away. After all, what kind of boyfriend would he be if he did that? Normally he would have kissed her when he saw her, but there was something in her demeanour that kept him from doing so, “So, to what do I owe this visit?”
That sounded a bit like she was interrupting, but since he was letting her inside she went in anyway. She was glad that he was letting her in to talk and that they weren’t going to prolong this anymore. She constantly had knots in her stomach because of it for the past week or so. When he didn’t kiss her, she kind of figured that was it. She was doomed. “I was wondering if we could talk. Uh.. privately.” She didn’t really want to have this conversation in front of Lian.
Roy frowned slightly at Darcy’s request and nodded, “Yeah, we could go in the kitchen. Lian is up in her room.” He couldn’t imagine what Darcy would need to talk to him privately about and it worried him a little. He gestured towards the kitchen for her to go ahead of him and he’d follow.
With a small nod of her head, she headed into the kitchen. Hopefully Lian wouldn’t hear any of this, being up in her room. She was nervous, that much showed. Once she was there, she turned towards him and fidgeted slightly with her hands. Right. Just come right out and ask. Like an adult. A scared baby adult. “So I have to.. ask.. I mean.. I just want to get this over with. Are you.. planning on dumping me? Because if so, I would really appreciate you just telling me now.”
Once in the kitchen, Roy was about to ask Darcy what was on her mind except that she beat him to it and as her question sank in, all he could do was stare at her for a moment or two, blue eyes wide. Dump her? Why would she think that? "What? No. Where are you getting that from?" He knew that Darcy hadn't had very good luck with men in the past, but he couldn't figure out why she would think that he was going to dump her. Of course now it made sense as to why she had been acting so off lately.
No? Somehow she wasn't quite sure he was telling the truth. Like he hadn't been expecting her to ask, and so he automatically said that wasn't the case. She didn't know."You've been.. I mean I know you're busy but it just .. sort of seems like you're shutting me out? I don't know. And then Dick is all trying to pimp you out to single girls or something that I don't get and you didn't seem to care. It just seemed like maybe you were tired of being with me." Darcy shrugged a little.
Roy hadn't realized that his being busy recently would have caused her to think that he was going to break up with her, but looking back, he could see how she might have thought that. He also made a mental note to smack Dick upside the head the next time he saw him, "Darce, I never meant to make you feel like I was shutting you out. I'm so sorry that you felt like that." Taking a few steps towards her, he reached out to take her hands, "And I did tell Dick that I didn't think you'd be thrilled with wanting to pimp me out, but post the embarrassing pictures of me, which I have forbid him from doing."
There were other things too, but Darcy realized that she mostly sounded paranoid bringing them up. She probably sounded paranoid now, come to think of it. She didn't want to think like this, but this sort of thing seemed to happen all the time. And she didn't know what to do about it. She let him take her hands, not moving away from him. She just wanted to make sure. Clear it up one way or another. "No. I mean I thought he liked me. I didn't think he wanted to get rid of me. I just.. figured that if you were going to do it, maybe you should get it over with already? I don't know. I'm paranoid. I know."
Squeezing her hands, Roy gazed down at Darcy, "I can assure you that I do not want to get rid of you and I'm not tired of you. I mean, I've never met a woman before who had a personality so much like my own. I'd be crazy to get rid of you." He hated the fact that Darcy had been thinking, all this time, that he was going to break up with her. The last thing he wanted to do was to hurt her like that or in any other way.
Immediately she looked relieved. "Really? You're not dumping me? Oh thank god." That was quite a relief. She'd been thinking for so long that it was going to happen that she had worked herself up into some kind of state. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to jump to conclusions and all of that. I just.. I have bad luck, so I thought this was just going to be another one of those times."
At Darcy's relieved expression, Roy smiled and shook his head, "Course I'm not gonna dump you. I love you." Roy hadn't said those words to a woman in a very long time. Not since Jade, but he knew that he loved Darcy and the fact that she got along so well with Lian and vice versa just made him even more secure in this relationship and sure about his feelings for Darcy.
Hearing those words made Darcy blink a little and stare at him. "Really? You.. you love me?" No one had said that to her in.. well ever, probably. Yeah that was probably the first time. "I love you too." She'd wanted to say it for a while, but then thinking that he might break up with her made her not want to. Who wanted to say that when you were getting dumped? "I'm so glad." She leaned in and kissed him.
As she spoke, Roy’s smile transformed into a grin and he nodded, “I do.” As she kissed him, Roy’s arms wrapped around her waist and he held her close as he kissed her back, happy that he had been able to reassure her that he had no intention of dumping her. This wasn’t exactly the way Roy would have liked to have told Darcy that he loved her, but he figured it was as good a time as any and now he didn’t have to keep wondering when would be the right time.
Wrapping her arms back around him, she held on tightly and gave him a squeeze. “I’m so sorry that I’m a paranoid jerk.” She sighed a little and kissed him again. Too bad Lian was there. Not that she was thinking of make-up sex but she was. If only because she’d been scared a couple of minutes ago and it turned out that he loved her. It was nice to hear. Maybe it wasn’t perfect, but she didn’t mind so much. It was infinitely better than getting dumped.
Roy chuckled and brought a hand up to run through her hair, "Don't sweat it. I totally get it." Smiling, he kissed her back, the thought of sex also on his mind, but there would be plenty of time for that later, "Must insist that you stay for dinner. You know me, I ordered way too much for just two people and as soon as Lian sees you, you're not gonna be allowed to leave anyway."
She still felt bad though, and hoped that he didn’t stop trusting her because of it. And hopefully that whole awful paranoia thing would just be something he could ignore. She could stop being paranoid now and hopefully it wouldn’t happen again. “Yeah? Well sure. Like I ever turn down free food.” She grinned slightly. “Thanks.”
