Lucy was mostly enjoying her job at The Pie Hole, she certainly met a lot of people and some had even started to know her name now. She had regulars and she was liking that aspect. She wasn’t enjoying being on her feet most of the day though, that was the hard part. She was an active girl but standing still and waiting never sat well with her. She liked being busy.
Hearing the bell above the door ring she looked up with a smile which grew as she saw her friend, “Celaena? What are you doing here?” she asked in surprise.
“Lucy,” Celaena smiled at her friend as she walked up to her. Leaning her arms on the counter she perched her chin on top of her folded hands. “Fancied coming by and seeing how my new buddy was getting on with her new job,” she shrugged. “How are things?”
Lucy smiled, "Thanks, that's really sweet of you. I'm doing well, still not dropped anything" she grinned, "You want a slice of pie? The apple and cinnamon is really good"
“Pie? You said the magic word!” Celaena grinned and propped herself up on the counter. “Apple and cinnamon sounds great!”
Laughing Lucy went to plate up a slice of pie, “I would say it would lose it’s magic if you worked here but it really doesn’t. Ned is a pie genius” she told her friend as she motioned to another girl to come take over. “I can take my break now if you like? We can eat pie and catch up”
“Sounds good,” Celaena nodded and headed to a table near the window, plonking herself down in a seat. “So how ya been?”
“Not too bad thanks. Kinda settling in more you know? Keeping an eye on my brother, his boyfriends visiting a relative so he’s missing him a lot” Lucy told her setting the pie slices down along with a couple of cans of soda before slipping into the seat opposite her friend. “How are you?”
“Cool, you have a brother? What does he do? He older than you?” Celaena asked, picking up a fork and spearing a piece of the pie nearest her.
“I have two. Both older and an older sister too” Lucy said, “Peter, he’s the one I’m living with here, he’s training to be a veterinarian”
“Sounds like hard work,” Celaena remarked, leaning her cheek on one hand as she ate. “Training to be a vet? That’s pretty cool I guess. What about you? You got any long term plans?”
Lucy took a bite of her own pie and nodded, “He’s doing really well though” her pride was very obvious in her voice. “I on the other hand have no clue what I want to do. That’s how I ended up here after travelling for a bit”
“You’ve travelled? Where’d you go?” Celaena asked curiously. She liked finding out about people, it seemed to be a natural instinct to find out whatever she could.
“Yeah. I finished my exams in England and decided to do a bit of backpacking around Europe then America” she smiled, “It’s been great fun but I missed my family which is why I decided to come visit my brother”
“Sounds like you’re a bit of an adventurer, you ever been to Russia?” Celaena asked, sticking some more pie on the end of her fork.
“I guess so. I just like discovering new things and meeting new people” Lucy said before nodding, “I spent a little time in St Petersburg, it was pretty amazing”
“You should come with me over the summer when I go to Moscow, you’d love it there!” Celaena grinned, dabbing her napkin to her mouth. “You were right, this is amazing pie,” she pointed at the pie with her fork.
“Oh that would be amazing. Are you going on holiday?” she asked before smiling, “It’s great isn’t it? I swear I’ve not had one that I’ve not liked so far”
“I go every summer to study with the Bolshoi Ballet company. I’m one of their star students,” Celaena told her friend proudly, a wide grin on her face. “I auditioned for two years and now I get invited to go back and let’s face it, it would be rude to decline,” she winked.
“That is incredible” Lucy said in awe, “I’d love to see you perform. I don’t really know much about ballet, except for a production of Swan Lake I saw once. Oh, should I be feeding you pie?” she asked with a cheeky grin.
“Yes woman! Feed me pie, damnit!” Celaena proclaimed with a grin, bringing a fist down on the table. “Well I’m with a company here in LA, so you could always come to one of those shows if you’d like,” she shrugged. “And don’t worry about going over there either, I speak Russian,” she told her, digging into some more pie.
Lucy laughed, “Pie will be had. I promise” she held her hands up in mock defence. “Oh that would be so much fun, maybe I could take my brother out for an evening. Let me know some dates and times please?” she requested before her eyebrows raised, “You speak Russian? Wow that’s pretty awesome”
"Good, never threaten to take away my pie," Celaena playfully pointed her fork at Lucy. "Yeah, they teach you while you're rehearsing," she shrugged nonchalantly. "I'll let you know when our next performance is, it'll be nice to have some support," she smiled.
"Noted, I won't ever take away the pie" she grinned. "Please do, I'd love to see you perform"
“Good, so long as that’s clear,” Celaena laughed, returning to her pie. “So you gonna come with me this summer?”
“Crystal clear” she nodded before grinning, “I’d love to! I think we’d have a brilliant time. I wouldn’t be in the way would I?”
“Course not! I get some free time in the afternoons and evenings so we can do some touristy stuff. It’s a wonderful city,” Celaena told her. “I can try and teach you some Russian before we go too.”
“That would be great” Lucy grinned, “Thanks Celaena, I can’t wait to explore the city with you”
"Sounds like a plan," Celaena smiled at her friend.
