Aurora hadn’t had any more dreams since the one where she’d stayed behind, tied to a cell door, because with Cora in possession of her heart, she was a liability to Mulan and the others and she didn’t want anyone to get hurt or for the quest to fail because of her. She had no idea what was going to happen, but Mulan had promised to get her heart back and she had faith in the other woman, both in the dreams and in real life. Thinking about the dreams caused her to think about how different they were in real life. In the dreams, Mulan was a warrior, which was similar to having been in the military in real life, but Aurora certainly wasn’t a princess and instead of her true love being a prince, Aurora was now kind or sorta officially dating Mulan.
It still seemed strange, to actually think of the older woman as her girlfriend, but it made her smile when she thought about it, so it was definitely a good thing. When Aurora thought about how much had happened with them over the last couple of months, she was reminded of Elsa, who she had met at the mall and who she’d spoken to about her feelings for Mulan way in the beginning. Thinking of the other woman had caused her to send her a text, inquiring if she wanted to get together for coffee and now here she was, waiting outside a Starbucks for the blond woman to show up.
Elsa had been pleasantly surprised to hear from Aurora and had happily agreed to meet for coffee. She hoped her advice had been helpful and that Aurora was happier and more comfortable than she had been. She’d felt slightly awkward giving advice at the time since she’d only recently started her first proper relationship with a woman but Aurora had seemed thankful. Elsa only hoped she had said the right things.
She’d gained a lot more control of her powers in the last few weeks and felt confident enough to be out and about without worrying about freezing everything in sight. She’d also returned to presenting the weather more often so was happy to have this chance to catch up with her new friend. Spotting her outside she waved as she made her way along the sidewalk, “Hey, I hope I haven’t kept you waiting long?”
Aurora had actually caught Elsa’s segment on the news a couple times since they’d met and it was kind of cool to be able to say that she knew her, if the news happened to be on in a public place. She had no idea about Elsa’s abilities and would surely be a little shocked by them, but then again, considering the crazy things that happened there, it was unlikely that she’d be too shocked.
Hearing Elsa’s voice, Aurora turned in her direction and smiled, “Hi. No, just a few minutes. How’re you?”
Elsa was getting recognised a little bit more but not enough to warrant her actually realising how popular her segment was. She kind of ignored viewing figures and just focused on the weather patterns, the equipment they had was brilliant and she could easily get carried away. Yes, she was a huge weather geek.
“Oh good” Elsa smiled, “I’m really well, thanks. And you?” she asked.
“I’m good.” Aurora said as she grasped the door handle of the coffee shop and pulled the door open so they could go inside, “Been busy with work. I just finished a job on a commercial. I’m up for another one in a few weeks.” Of course she was still trying to get a movie or even a tv show, because they would be longer jobs than a commercial.
“Oh that’s wonderful” Elsa replied with a bright smile as they stepped into the short queue, “I could check with our network executive office and see if we have anything scheduled which you could try for? If you like of course?” Elsa enjoyed helping when she could and this seemed an easy and obvious way to do so for her friend.
“What’s the makeup department like over there? I imagine it’s not that different from other tv shows or movies, but I know you guys use different kinds of lighting.” Aurora said as they reached the counter and she glanced up at the menu to decide which frappe she wanted today, “How did the makeup I helped you pick out work?”
“Well everyone is really nice” Elsa said not really knowing much about any other make up department so having little to compare it to, “Oh actually I do know one of the girls who helps me is going on maternity leave soon, so they must be looking for somebody. I’ll ask her when I’m in tomorrow and let you know” Elsa hadn’t really thought much about it until then. She smiled, “It was great, perfect actually. Thank you for that”
“Really?” Aurora perked up slightly at that and she ordered her drink and paid then moved aside for Elsa before inquiring more, “That’d be amazing. Whatever you can find out would be great,” Opening her purse, she reached into an inner pocket and pulled out a business card then handed it over to Elsa, “I had these printed up a few years ago. You can give this to them if they’re interested.” The business cards really had been a great idea.
“Of course” Elsa nodded before placing her order then turning back to Aurora to take the business card, “That’s perfect. I’ll be sure to pass it on” she promised as she tucked the card into her own purse. Maybe she could call in on the way home, it would be great to help out her new friend.
Aurora smiled as her name was called and she picked up her drink and waited for Elsa to get her own, “So, what had you been up to? Other than working, I mean. Have you done anything fun?”
Elsa’s drink wasn’t long coming after that and they made their way to a table, “Not an awful lot. Mostly spending time with my girlfriend or sister. Dealing with the dreams that everybody around here seem to have”
Aurora followed Elsa to a table, “That sounds really nice. My parents are in the area, but I’m an only child.” Aurora had often wondered what it’d be like to have a sibling, but she’d never got to find out for herself. “What sort of dreams do you have? If you don’t mind my asking.” She couldn’t help but be a little curious about other people’s dreams.
“I love being so close to her now. When we were younger she was ill and I was at boarding school so we weren’t as close as I’d have liked” Elsa admitted before offering a small smile, “In my dreams I become queen of a kingdom called Arendelle”
A small smile spread across Aurora’s lips as Elsa spoke about her sister, “That sounds really nice. That you two are closer now, not that she was sick of course. She’s better now though?” Aurora took a sip of her drink, “Really? I’m a princess in my dreams. I live in the Enchanted Forest. Where’s Arendelle?”
Elsa nodded, "She's better now. Starting college this year after homeschooling" she smiled as she thought of Anna. "It's not really clear, it has a kind of Norway feel to it. Where's the Enchanted forest?" she asked curiously.
Aurora shrugged, “The Enchanted Forest. I think that’s the name of the world itself. From what I understand there are other worlds, but you need portals and things to get to them,” She knew that Mary Margaret and Emma claimed to have come through a portal to The Enchanted Forest, but Aurora hadn’t seen it, so she wasn’t entirely sure. “It seems like there are a lot of people with fairytale type dreams on Valarnet.”
Elsa chuckled a little, “Sounds a little like my dreams, Arendelle is just Arendelle” she smiled, “It does seem so. I wonder if we’re all connected somehow or if we’re just part of a really big coincidence”
“I don’t know, but that would be interesting. It can’t be a coincidence that we’re all royalty of places that aren’t actually real,” Aurora said, smirking as she took a sip of her drink, “I was under a sleeping curse for awhile, which just screams fairy tale. And there was this whole thing with a beanstalk and a giant. That stuff just doesn’t happen in real life.”
“That really does sound like a fairy story” Elsa agreed before admitting, “There’s magic in mine too. Magic that freezes the kingdom in an eternal winter until we can work out how to reverse it” She didn’t add that it could happen in real life, she didn’t want to scare Aurora. After all in her dreams she was kind of the villain, at least for a while anyway.
“These dreams are absolutely crazy,” Aurora didn’t add the part about how two of her dreams had caused her to sleepwalk again, but luckily she hadn’t done it since the dreams where Ruby had found her in the hall between their apartments. Despite having different dreams, it was nice to have someone else around who dreamt of something similar.
