Orange county was interesting. Apparently people dreamed, which was fucking crazy, but Ellie hadn’t, not yet anyway. Which was good and bad. What if she was a super hero! That would be fucking awesome!
She decided to hitch a ride into the city from the ranch and hit up an arcade. Because she was bored.
Rogue was out on her bike, driving down any ole road she could find. The loss of one of her friends had really hit her hard (not to mention she had had a crush on the idiot) and she’d spent a lot of her time since coming home riding around.
She almost skidded to a stop seeing the kid hitchhiking, turning around and stopping near her. “Hey aren’t you a little young’ ta be hitchhikin?”
"I'm older than I look," Ellie replied, defiantely. She really was eighteen, and even had the ID to prove it. Even if she didn't look quite that old. She folded her arms. "I'm just trying to get into town and I don't wanna bother the people at the ranch. But at the rate this is going I'm going to fucking walk there before someone actually gives me a ride."
Rogue grinned. "Hop on then, ah'll take ya to town, ain't fun walking these roads" she smirked, she was used to that kind of comment herself so she want sure why she even worried, after all she'd hitchhiked from Louisiana.
“...Thanks. And if you try anything I’ll cut you.” She always carried a knife, and more than once she’d used it! She’d come all this way from Boston the hard way, after all.
“Ain’t gonna try nothing, Ah hitched my way from Louisiana to here, so ah know the perils.” she rolled her eyes a bit as she gestured for the girl to hop on. “Hope you like livin’ dangerously, ain’t got any helmets. But ain’t wrecked yet. ain’t planning on it neither.”
“I came from Boston, and lady, I live for danger.” She grinned at Rogue and hopped on behind her. Then came the awkward moment while she tried to figure out where to put her hands without creeping the other girl out. Because she was pretty.
Rogue was covered so she wasn’t going to zap poor Ellie, and she was getting used to wandering hands, so she wasn’t going to argue too much. It was what it was. She laughed as she took off towards town. “Fair enough, fair enough.” she smiled a bit, kid was pretty cool.
“Thanks,” Ellie murmured, flailing internally. She settled down to let herself enjoy the ride.
Rogue drove, not crazily but definitely faster than the speed limit and seemed to enjoy being a touch reckless. “Where did you want to get dropped off?” she called back, looking at the girl for a second before looking back at the road.
“Some place with loud music and video games,” Ellie declared. She’ll stop playing video games when she was one hundred, or dead, whichever came first.
Rogue knew a place and headed towards it. She wasn’t a fan herself but she’d had friends who were. And marks, too. “Alright then” she pushed the bike faster, lazily weaving through traffic.
“You’re awesome, how come we never met before? Fuck me.” Ellie laughed, like the foul-mouthed little brat she was.
Rogue tilted her head back and laughed as she slid into a spot before the arcade place she’d seen. “Cause ah’m a bit of a loaner, ain’t popular so ah tend ta be off and out in mah own.” she smirked a bit at the girl.
“Yeah… That sounds like me. Only had a few friends and I doubt any of them miss me.” Ellie shrugged her shoulder, ducking her head in the face of Rogue’s smirk.
“Ah ain’t a big fan of people, a’h’ve got friends, just ain’t many Ah’ll lean on no more.” she frowned. She, at this point, didn’t know about Renji, so she was still sulking about that a bit.
“Don’t trust anyone,” Ellie warned her, and her expression hardened. “They’ll just use you and throw you out with the trash when they’re done with you.”
“Ain’t gotta tell me that twice girl, ah’ve been on both sides of that fence.” she said with sadness in her voice. “If’n you need a ride into town again lemme know.” she tossed a piece of paper at the girl with her number on it. “Ah’ve got not much to do so ah’ don’t mind”
“Thanks…” Ellie caught the paper and looked at it, then shoved it into her pocket. She wasn’t sure that was the best idea, but Rogue seemed nice. There weren’t many nice people in the world that she’d ever met that didn’t have an ulterior motive. But benefit of the doubt? Maybe.
