Celaena was looking through the rails at the clothes for a new top. There were so many drab colours floating about in the shops these days, she hated it. Sighing in resignation she dropped her hands from the hangers and looked the the side with a pout. To her left she saw a young girl holding a top up against herself. The colour and cut was all wrong for her and Celaena decided to tell her. “You should try the green one of you insist on having that top, but the shape of its all wrong, you should try…” she had a quick flick through the racking again and pulled one out triumphantly. “This one, it’s longer so it’ll make you look taller,” she smiled.
Lucy wasn't really a fan of shopping, but since she was going to be working she needed some nice clothes. Not really knowing many people here yet she had taken herself off to a mall alone. She loved her brother and Caspian too much to put them through coming with her. When the girl had offered advice Lucy had been somewhat startled but looked at her with a smile. "Oh, well thanks" she said, putting the offending top down and taking the one being held out to her, "Pretty obvious I'm clueless isn't it?" she smiled ruefully.
“No, you’re not clueless, but sometimes people don’t think about these sorts of things when they buy clothes,” Celaena shrugged nonchalantly as she flicked through a few more items on the rack. “I just happen to love clothes is all. I like feeling good in them and when I see someone about to make a fashion faux pas it’s in my nature to step in and correct it,” she told the girl with a smile. “Celaena Sardothien,” she introduced, reaching a hand out to the girl, over the arm which held her handbag in the crook of her elbow.
“Well this fashion faux pas thanks you” Lucy grinned before shaking the girls hand, “Lucy Pevensie and if you help me find some good work clothes I’ll buy you a coffee” she added with a sweet smile, “Unless you’re busy, please feel free to tell me if you are”
“You are absolutely on!” Celaena smiled at the girl. “How could I refuse a coffee? So what sort of work are you doing?”
“Great!” Lucy said happily, hopefully she was on her way to making a new friend, “Thanks. Well I just got a job at a pie shop, serving and waitressing mostly. But I’m still gonna be looking around, wanna try things out until I find what feels right you know?”
“Absolutely! Don’t want to be stuck in a job which doesn’t suit you and you don’t enjoy,” Celaena agreed. “And part of that is having a fantastic wardrode to go to work in” she winked at Lucy. “So, what sort of colours do you like to wear?”
"Exactly" Lucy nodded before laughing, "I can't say my wardrobe has ever been fantastic before. Umm I like green, brown, blues"
“Hmm,” Celaena looked Lucy over appraisingly and nodded. “Green works and blue too, brown?” she winced a little. “We have to be careful with your colouring, but it could work,” she turned her attention back to the rails and flicked through. “How about this one?” she suggested, holding up a green and white patterned top with a peasant neckline.
"Totally willing to be led by you" Lucy said easily, just because she liked something didn't mean she could pull it off. "Oh wow, you think I could wear that?" It was pretty.
"Yeah, I reckon so," Celaena nodded as she handed the top to the girl. "It's pretty, girly but also pretty chic," she smiled at her. "No harm in trying it on at least,' she shrugged, returning to perusing the stock. "Do you have any restrictions for what you can wear to work?"
"It's nice, I'm not a girly girl but I do like that" Lucy admitted, "Not that I've been told. Nothing too revealing or anything, I tend to go for comfort"
“Fair enough,” Celaena shrugged. “That means we have more to play with,” she continued flicking through the clothes on the rail. “So why a pieshop?”
“Does it? Right, well that’s good” Lucy smiled before shrugging, “Honestly? It was the first offer I had. I mentioned needing work and Ned, my new boss, asked me if I’d ever done waitressing before”
“Had you?” Celaena asked without thinking.
“Nope, but he gave me a chance anyway. So I figured it was worth a go”
Celaena laughed at that. “I like that,” she smiled at Lucy “Come on then, let’s try that on and we can get out of here and try some other shops,” she directed Lucy to the changing rooms. This was turning out to be a brilliant day.
