Alistair had spent the last three weeks or so looking over his shoulder when he was out and being paranoid that at any moment Zevran’s obsessed fan would make him or herself known and try to do something to him. Realistically, Alistair probably could have easily taken care of anyone who came after him, considering the fact that he’d killed a number of Darkspawn while he was still getting used to the fact that as a result of the dreams he could now use a sword and was stronger than he was before. However, there was always the off chance that the person who had been terrorizing him could show up with a gun and in that instance, he didn’t think his experiences from the dreams would help him.
Staying with Zevran had helped the situation quite a lot, because when he was with his boyfriend, it helped put Alistair’s mind at ease and he could relax and not think about what was going on for a little while. He was especially enjoying falling asleep and waking up next to Zevran each day and wasn’t entirely sure how he was supposed to sleep alone again once he did go back to his own apartment. Sharing a bed with Zevran had also helped Alistair to feel more comfortable when it came to intimacy. Not only did Alistair’s hands wander more confidently now, but he’d also asked Zevran if he would give him some tips on oral sex, because watching it and doing it were two completely different things, especially when Zevran was quite large. Alistair eventually wanted to work his way up to bottoming, but knew it’d probably a while longer.
Alistair was just walking into the foyer of Zevran’s house after leaving his job at the theater when his phone rang. Retrieving it from his pocket, he saw that it was the police officer assigned to his case and dreading whatever he was going to hear, he pressed the screen to answer and brought the phone up to his ear, “Hello?”
The voice on the other end of the line was a police officer, his voice a bit gruff but his tone warm. “Hello, is this Alistair Theirin?”
“It is.” Alistair said as he walked through the foyer, listening to the phone call with one ear and listening for Zevran, wondering where he was, with the other ear, “Is something going on?” He’d been by his apartment the day before, the police officers who were doing their stakeout in an unmarked car just across the street. He’d had to grab something before work then had headed off to the theater. So something had to have happened between then and now for the officer to be calling him.
“We wanted to inform you that we’ve made an arrest in relation to the case you had open regarding vandalism and threatening letters toward you. We can’t disclose too many of the details, but we wanted to let you know.” The cop was glad for that, too.
Alistair’s brows rose as he listened to the cop on the other end, stopping in the middle of the living room, “Really? You’re sure?” He’d been paranoid about this person for weeks now and suddenly, hearing that he or she had been arrested, it felt like a weight had been lifted and he didn’t have to constantly be looking over his shoulder, but he had to be sure that this was the same person, “Do I need to come down there or anything?”
“Not at this time. You’ve never seen them, so it’d be impossible for you to make an identification. We’ll let you know when he’s arraigned, so you can come if you like.” The police officer could hear the relief in Alistair’s voice. “You should be able to sleep easier now.”
Alistair nodded despite the fact that the officer couldn’t see him, “Right. Thanks for letting me know.” With that, Alistair ended the call and slid his phone back into his pocket, a relieved smile upon his lips as he thought back over the phone call for a moment. The person who had been terrorizing him for the last month had finally been arrested. That was one less thing for Alistair to worry about. He needed to tell Zevran the news. Glancing around the room, he wondered where, exactly, his boyfriend was, “Zev!” He called as he turned towards the stairs and headed upstairs to check if he was in the bedroom.
Zevran was indeed in the bedroom, folding laundry he’d been doing. His hair was in a low ponytail, and he hummed a little to himself as he folded some of Alistair’s clothing. “I am in the bedroom!” He smiled, poking his head out to grin at his boyfriend.
Hearing Zevran’s voice, Alistair took the stairs two at a time, smiling when he saw Zevran’s head poking out the door, “What’re you doing?” He asked, giving his boyfriend a quick kiss before moving past him, into the room, gaze falling on the clothes, “Guess that explains it.” Alistair wasn’t used to someone else washing and folding his clothes for him any more and had told Zevran, the first time, that he didn’t need to do it, but in a way it was also nice to see a completely different side of the elf than other people usually saw, “Guess what.”
Zev was actually domestic on occasion, and he gave Alistair a kiss. The elf had always had to fend for himself, so he was simply used to doing it. “What?”
“The police just called me as I was coming in and the officer said that they made an arrest.” Alistair was still smiling, relieved that this whole thing would finally be behind them, “Isn’t that great? I won’t have to be so paranoid every time I go out now.”
That made Zevran grin broadly. “Truly? We should go out to celebrate!” He didn’t want to voice his suspicions that it was Alistair’s father sending someone to harass his son.
Even if Zevran had suggested it, Alistair would have doubted that his father had anything to do with it, because Maric had no idea about Alistair’s sexual preference or about his relationship. Maric may have liked to be in charge of everything his family did, but he wasn’t the sort to send someone to follow his son simply because he’d chosen to veer from the path Maric had set. “I could celebrate. Have something in mind?”
“I do not know. Perhaps we could order food, have a picnic somewhere?” Zev smiled brightly, but then a sobering, saddening thought occurred to him. “I suppose you will be returning to your home soon.” It was enough to make his ears droop slightly.
Alistair was going to weigh in on Zevran’s idea to order food when the elf spoke again and his own smile faded. That fact hadn’t even crossed his mind yet, but he supposed it was true. He’d been staying with Zevran because it was safer than staying at his apartment while his boyfriend’s obsessed fan was out there, but now he would be behind bars and Alistair was free to go back to his apartment, “Yeah...I guess I can.” He’d gotten used to sharing a bed and home and meals with Zevran and didn’t know how he’d go back to doing those things alone on an almost daily basis.
His droopy ears didn’t stop. Zev sat down on his bed, still holding one of Alistair’s shirts. He bit his lower lip, hoping that the slight hesitance he’d heard in Alistair’s voice was because the other man wanted to stay as much as Zev wanted him to. “You don’t have to,” Zev murmured.
Given the choice, Alistair would stay. So much had happened over the last couple of months and the two had grown much closer and Alistair was no longer quite as nervous as he had once been around Zevran. “I don’t?” He asked, brows rising slightly as he watched Zevran, wanting nothing more than to reach out towards him at that moment, but he waited. He wanted to make sure that he was reading the situation correctly before making a move. The last thing he wanted was to overstay his welcome.
“I do prefer having someone to sleep next to. And I would prefer the person be you,” Zev teased. Even in a delicate moment like this, he couldn’t help but tease. “You could stay if you wanted. I would like that very much.”
Alistair’s lips turned up into a small smile as he listened to Zevran, “I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t prefer sleeping next to you too.” He stepped a little closer to where Zevran sat on the bed, “You’re sure I wouldn’t be overstaying my welcome? I wouldn’t want to inconvenience you.” Alistair teased him back.
Oh, thank god. He was teasing too, that meant things were okay. Zev beamed and reached out for Alistair, tugging him closer by a belt loop. “Mmm, I do not think it will be a problem, Alistair.”
Alistair allowed Zevran to pull him closer until he was standing in front of him, “That’s good to hear,” Smiling, he leaned down to press a kiss to Zevran’s lips. When he’d gotten the phone call from the police, he’d thought that that was going to be the best news he got all day, but this was even better, “I think we have more to celebrate now.”
“Oh? Why, what are we celebrating?” Zev couldn’t help but smile, reaching out for another kiss. This was easily one of the best days that Zev had experienced since he’d gotten to the States.
Alistair laughed softly as he kissed Zevran back then pulled away only a little, quirking a brow, “Careful. I can still change my mind. Haven’t moved any of my stuff yet.” Not that there was any chance of him changing his mind.
Zev pretended to gasp. “Say it isn’t so! How you wound me.” He pretended to pout, pooching out his lower lip and sniffling. “How cruel you are with my affections.”
Reaching back to run his fingers through Zevran’s ponytail, Alistair smirked, “Don’t worry, I don’t think I could take it back now. I’m too excited at the mere thought of moving in with you, which by the way, is what we’d be celebrating.” He resisted the urge to run his fingers along the shell of Zevran’s ear, “That and your crazy fan getting arrested.”
“They are not a fan if they would harm my favorite person in the world,” Zev murmured, serious for a rare moment. “Do you have work tomorrow? We should go somewhere, get a nice hotel room.”
When they had met, Alistair couldn’t imagine that someone like Zevran would consider him their favorite person, but hearing it now only made him grin like an idiot, “In the afternoon. A hotel room sounds nice.” He bit his bottom lip lightly before speaking again, “Maybe one with a tub in the room.” Sure, Zevran’s master bathroom had a rather large tub in it, but there was something that much more romantic about a room with a whirlpool tub in it.
“I know just the place.” Zev grinned, rolling over to grab his laptop to make a last minute reservation. It’d be nice to be in a hotel and have sex that he wasn’t being paid to have.
While Zevran made the reservation, Alistair looked through the clothes Zevran had been folding and began to pack a bag, leaving room for Zevran to put his own things in, “You’ll have to be careful not to spoil me too much now. I mean, living in a house like this and staying in hotels might go to my head.”
“You deserve it,” Zev beamed. He was still being serious. “I think you have been told what to do and who to be for too long. It is time for you to decide, no?”
Alistair smiled and moved back over to Zevran, leaning in to kiss him again, “I agree.” Things really were starting to look up and Alistair was looking forward to everything that came their way.
