Merlin had collected Gwen from her office on time before transporting them to the new house he and Audrey were now living in, with Nina of course. He had a much better grasp of his powers now and knew he could confidently get them to and from Stark Industries without getting tired or hurting them.
“Ta da” he said as they appeared out of the front of the house, watching for her reaction.
Gwen was honestly more impressed with the teleportation trick than she was with the house. She was a little unsteady on her feet when they first arrived, giving a nervous laugh and taking a few steps along the walkway. “Wow… You’re… really crazy with the magic stuff.” She said, giving him a smile. “But… yes, house.” Her attention went to the house and she broke into a huge grin. “This is so much like Audrey.”
“Oh sorry, I should have given you a moment shouldn’t I?” Merlin apologised, he sometimes forgot. Audrey was getting used to it slowly so her recovery time was much quicker. “I know” he beamed, “It’s perfect” he agreed.
Gwen laughed. “Yeah, maybe. The whole disappearing in one place and reappearing in another is a little disorienting for some people.” She gave him a grin. “It’s okay, though. C’mon, show me everything,” she added, looping her arm through his so he could lead her into the house.
“Sorry” he said again, “I’m getting so used to my magic now that I keep forgetting its not normal for everybody” he admirred. He grinned as her arms was tucked into his and he began the tour. Everything was where it needed to be and the boxes had been cleared away. It kind of had the lived in for years feeling already, mostly thanks to Audrey.
“God, your house even smells like freshly baked cookies.” Gwen said, playfully admonishing him. “You and Audrey are like, the perfect couple. It’s almost sickening.” She poked her head into one of the bedrooms. “It’s a big place. Which room is going to be the nursery?” She teased.
Merlin laughed, “Wonderful isn’t it? Hey now, no hating on the love” he grinned at her. “Actually we’re thinking that one” he pointed to the room next to his and Audrey’s master bedroom.
“It’s just jealousy,” Gwen said, giving him a little smirk. “What the two of you have… it’s amazing. I want that. Someday, maybe I’ll get it.” She added, then turned to look into the room where Merlin had motioned. “How many are you guys gonna have? Six? Seven?”
“You’ll get it Gwen” Merlin told her, “I definitely never expected it to happen but she’s my soul mate” he smiled before chuckling, “At least two I think”
Maybe. Maybe she had it with Michael. Maybe. Gwen wasn’t sure. She knew that she loved him, and would do anything for him. But she wasn’t about to up and marry the boy. If he asked her… she’d probably faint. And not have any idea how to respond. Was what she had with Michael a forever thing? Gwen didn’t know.
“Two’s a good number. So’s three. I have two brothers, and we were pretty happy growing up.” She said.
Merlin was probably not the sort to offer advice there, he’d been Audrey’s best friend and then boyfriend and then husband in pretty quick succession but every single step had felt right and like it happened at the right time.
“Two or three sounds good” Not that he wouldn’t have more if Audrey wanted them but he liked that number personally.
“You’d better get to it.” Gwen said, giving him a grin. “I can’t wait to have nieces and nephews to spoil.” It seemed like Merlin’s and Audrey’s relationship moved so quickly, wouldn’t the rest come just as fast? Best friend, Boyfriend, Fiance, Husband, Co-Home-Owner… and then Father to her kids? All within, what, a couple years?
"We're working on it" he told her winking. They had moved fast but he knew she was the one for him and he knew it so why should they waste time.
“What, really??” Gwen asked, her eyes lighting up. “Seriously? Well, I’ll have to start wandering the baby department at Target to get baby shower gift ideas.”
“Seriously” he nodded, “We’re trying for babies” he said his smile wide as he ignored the small niggling doubt at the back of his mind. It wasn’t anything to do with Audrey, he loved her and wanted children with her, he was just a little worried about passing on his powers.
“That’s awesome!!” Gwen said, giving a laugh, and wrapped her arms around him for a quick hug. “You’re going to be the most amazing parents! Just… keep reigns on Audrey. I worry that she might over-feed anyone in her house.” She was teasing. Mostly.
Merlin returned the hug happily, “Thanks Gwen” he said, “I promise I’ll make sure she doesn’t overdo it - or if she does that we palm the excess baking off on you” he teased.
Gwen laughed. "I suppose I can't say no to free baked goods..." she released him from the hug. "Speaking of. What did Audrey leave us for lunch?"
Merlin chuckled, “Let’s find out” he said with a smile before leading the way into the kitchen and finding their lunch set out for them with a sweet note from his wife.
