Moira was waiting in her lab. And it really was her lab now. When she wasn't in surgery or sleeping, she could be found up here, researching. Currently though, she was taking a coffee break while waiting for her wee lass.
Rahne rode her motorcycle over to the lab. She wasn't really sure how she felt about knowing that Moira had found something. She didn't know what yet, but she wasn't sure how she'd feel about whatever it was she was about to find out, either. She made her way inside and looked around. "Mum?"
"Have some coffee, Rahney, and have a seat." She gestured at cup that she'd gotten downstairs. It wasn't her own brewing, but that was probably for the best.
Rahne glanced at the coffee, then picked up the cup and took a seat. She took a sip and looked at Moira expectantly.
There was no easy way to cushion this. She placed a hand on Rahne's arm and said quietly, but evenly, "Craig is ye biological father, Rahne. He admitted it, an' even submitted tae a paternity test." There might have been some arm twisting, and one or two old favors called on.
Rahne took a deep breath. It made sense. It hurt--and made her feel even more sorry for her poor birth mother--but it made sense. "Dream was right, then."
"Aye...I'm sorry." Moira knew what Craig represented to Rahne. There were still unresolved issues, she was certain - and this news only really made it worse. She wished she could even say he was a good man at heart, but she never believed it. If there was one man Moira wanted to see burning in hell, it was Reverend Craig.
"He's a disgusting human being. This only proves he's worse than I knew he was." What sort of hell had he made of the last days of her mother's life, Rahne wondered. "Such a hypocrite."
"A terrible man. But ye know I dunnae believe in that sins o'the father nonsense. An' even if that's the case, ye've more than made up for any of it." Moira took Rahne's hands, "I'm sae proud of ye. I dunnae say that enough."
"Aye, his sins are his own, not mine. They make a very good tale of 'what not tae do'." Rahne smiled as Moira took her hands. "Yuir the best, Mum."
"I couldnae ask for a better lass tae call my daughter." Moira felt a little verklempt, and wiped at her eye, "Ye dunnae have tae talk tae him at all. I made that verrah clear that it was up tae ye."
"I dinnae want tae talk tae him. He had a part in giving me life, but that doesn't mean he's a right tae be part of it," Rahne said. "I am glad I dinnae take after him physically, though."
"Me tae." Moira laughed, "Yuir beautiful like ye mother was. I jus' wish she had had a chance tae see how ye turned out."
Rahne smiled, feeling the prickle of tears in her eyes. She hugged Moira tightly.
Sniffling a little, Moira hugged Rahne back, whispering, "I love ye.."
"I love ye, too, Mummy," Rahne whispered back.
"Oh..och..." Moira started to wibble, and then hugged Rahne even tighter.
