"Fang."
The voice stirred her. Though she couldn't see through the crystal also, she still shared every moment with Vanille.
"She's here."
"So? I'm sure Light could take care of herself, and her sister besides."
"She can't, an' ya know it." Vanille's voice was insistent. "She'll need one of us, an' that's the kinda strength you're good at. I'm not scared anymore, Fang."
Fang felt sensation flooding her limbs. She felt her heart start to beat, a pounding primal rhthym in her skull.
"She needs her friends. Ya can be whatever she needs. I'll still love ya, an' I know I'll have a place in your heart. Be her friend. Be happy."
When her eyes opened, she looked at a pillar of crystal a hundred feet high. They were deep in the outback, so no one heard her scream, or the crashing of her staff as she beat it ineffectually against the pillar. Fang raged in anguish.
Vanille's form was a faint shadow within the crystal and fang rested her palms and forehead against it. In a hundred years it would be strong enough to avert the calamity, but right now it wasn't strong enough to hold the two of them.
"Fine. Fine, I'll..." Her right arm started to burn, like it was on fire. She grabbed her bicep and screamed as the brand burned itself into her skin, white hot.
Her voice echoed off of the rocks and the crystal. "No! No no no!"
