When Remus had woken up that morning, he’d known something was wrong almost right away. Not only did his joints not ache when he got up, but he simply felt younger. He’d been shocked when he’d looked in the mirror to see that he was roughly nineteen again. He knew that he shouldn’t have been shocked, considering the things that happened in the OC; not to mention, he was a werewolf. After leaving the bathroom, he’d noticed that Sirius wasn’t in bed, but it hadn’t taken him long to find him and when he did, Remus was even more shocked at what he’d seen. Sirius was younger as well. Sirius was eleven again.
Unlike Remus though, Sirius appeared to have regressed physically and mentally. Remus had almost forgotten just how rambunctious Sirius had been when he was younger, but at the same time, Remus had been young too and at that time he was just happy to be accepted by Sirius and his friends. However, how he would see why it had aggravated their teachers; both in real life and in the dreams.
After he’d found Sirius and attempted to explain that no, he hadn’t kidnapped him, he’d taken to Valarnet to see if this had happened to anyone else. So now he sat, trying to figure out what to do and attempting to get Sirius to settle down.
Sirius was sitting on the couch eating a large bowl of cereal as he flicked through the channels on the television at rapid fire speed. He looked over at the guy who claimed to be Remus and scowled, still not quite believing him. “If you did kidnap me, my parents will have you arrested and will sue the hell out of you! Besides… if you didn’t kidnap me, then how come none of my stuff is here? Are you some kind of perv who snatches kids or something? And how come I woke up wearing someone else’s clothes? Huh?”
Having lived in the OC long enough to know that it could sometimes muck everything up, Regulus wasn’t the least bit surprised that something else had happened, and that something was happening to Remus which meant that it might also be happening to his brother. He didn’t respond to the entry on the net. Instead, he went to the place Remus and Sirius shared and knocked at the door. He lost more revenue from the restaurant this way, it was a wonder he could even make a living any longer.
Remus sighed; he had tried to explain things to Sirius, but that clearly hadn't worked. "Your family aren't going to come after me. Trust me." Honestly, there were many other things Remus could think of that he could be doing at that moment and this was not one if them.
Hearing the doorbell, Remus frowned for a moment then assumed it was probably someone coming to check up on them after seeing his post. "Stay there." He said to Sirius then got up and headed for the door, relief evident on his face when he saw Regulus on the other side, "I take it you saw my post?" It was nice to see that someone was still normal.
Sirius shoveled another spoonful of cereal into his mouth and set the bowl on the coffee table. He jumped to his feet and followed the older man, not even pretending to follow directions. "Who're you?" He demanded, pointing at Regulus. "You the jerk who helped him kidnap me?"
Just before Regulus was about to respond to Remus, he was caught off guard by a familiar sight: his brother, not quite a half pint but certainly not the tall drink of water he’d grown up to become, grey eyes shining with startling clarity and annoyance at his would-be captors, came toward them with an accusatory point of his finger. “Didn’t Mother teach you not to point at people, Sirius?” he asked, sounding quite like their father, a wretched thing he’d come to loathe about the pitch of his voice.
Remus sighed, placing his hand on his forehead as Sirius came into the foyer, but his frustration melted away as Regulus spoke to the much younger version of his older brother and a smirk spread across Remus’ lips before he turned to Sirius, “No, Sirius. This is Regulus. Your brother. Just like I’m really Remus.”
“Bull! Reg is littler than me. And Remus is a kid too.” He folded his arms across his chest and glared up at Regulus. “My Mother told me a lot of things that I don’t listen to.” Sirius looked closely at Regulus and frowned. He looked like they could possibly be related, but how stupid did these guys think he was? Regulus and Remus weren’t adults! “If you’re going to kidnap me, at least make some breakfast.” He stomped back into the other room, plopped down on the sofa, the smirked as he spotted the iPad on the table. To his delight, it wasn’t even passworded! Sirius immediately posted a ‘help’ notice on the network.
It was only then that Regulus noticed Remus. Certainly, he should have before, but seeing Sirius in this state served as a good distracter from the handsome thing that was Remus Lupin as Regulus remembered from their younger years. He had no time to comment on it just yet, however. Regulus rolled his eyes. “How well I remember,” he remarked coolly as he stepped further into the apartment that his brother shared with Remus. They were together. Boyfriends. Oh, how marvelous that this should be happening when the two of them had surely shagged every night. “You’re a big boy, make your own breakfast,” he continued, “you always did your own thing anyway.” Finally, he turned to Remus with a half crooked smile. “Looks like you’ve done well yourself, Lupin,” he half cooed.
“You just had cereal.” Remus shook his head as Sirius went back into the other room. He knew that he should probably follow him, make sure that he didn’t get into anything he shouldn’t, but instead he stayed in the foyer with Regulus a little longer, “I’ll admit, this isn’t too bad.” If only Sirius had also de-aged to nineteen, then things would have been perfect. “Of course it would be better if your brother wasn’t eleven.” Remus was so frustrated with having to babysit Sirius for however long that this lasted that he was slightly oblivious to the way Regulus was looking at him, “I’m sure you’re happy that you’ve stayed as you are.”
Sirius smirked as he got a reply to his message. The only problem was that lady seemed just as mental as these two idiots. He wrote back a reply message to her and called out to Remus and Regulus, “You’re screwed now! People know I’m here and someone’s going to call the police. By the way… some lady named Nina says she knows you.”
“Indeed I am,” Regulus replied, chancing a bit of a sly touch to Remus’ shoulder before he turned his attention to the ever attention-demanding Sirius. The hand that was on Remus’ shoulder went to the top of Sirius’ head and patted. “Look at this, my big-little brother trying to be as threatening as he is as an adult,” he half marveled, “It doesn’t quite work as well, does it?”
“No one is going to come for you. The same thing is happening to almost everyone else.” Remus shook his head as he called back to Sirius. He didn’t think much of the hand on his shoulder, figuring Regulus meant it as nothing more than a friendly gesture, “And Nina is our friend, Sirius. She’s a doctor.” Remus said as they joined Sirius in the other room and he took the ipad from the boy. “What will it take to prove to you that we are who we say we are?” Remus knew it would take a lot considering their varied ages, but there had to be a way. Otherwise, Remus might have to lock Sirius in the basement until this was over. Okay, so maybe he wouldn’t actually do that.
“Dunno. Right now I think you’re full of it and that you’re both lying.” Sirius ducked his head away from Regulus’ hand and glared up at him. “Bite me. You don’t know me!” He turned his attention to Remus and said, “Fine. Tell me something about me that no one else knows. And not some stupid thing that you’ll say I don’t remember.”
The trouble was, Regulus wasn’t sure Sirius would believe them anyway. He rolled his eyes and folded his arms across his chest. “You sure that’s a good idea, Sirius?” he asked. “I could choose the most embarrassing thing you’ve ever done in my memory bank, like that time you demanded to roller skate naked through the house, then busted your face. Shall I go on to something else?”
Remus couldn’t help but smirk a little as Regulus recited his story. He had very little trouble imaging that that story was true. “And we met when I moved here from Oregon. I was quite nervous about fitting in, but you and James accepted me almost immediately.” A smile spread across his lips as he recalled how friendly Sirius and James had been to him when he’d been the new kid.
Sirius jaw dropped and he stared at both of them in shock. He glared up at Regulus and blurted out, “That’s because Mother said I wasn’t allowed to go outside and get my clothes dirty! So if I was naked, then they wouldn’t get dirty! And I only got hurt because the floors in the house were shit to skate on!”
He set his jaw stubbornly and shoved the fringe out of his eyes. “Okay, fine… so maybe you’re not lying. Then how come I’m a kid and you two are adults?”
“Your guess is as good as ours,” Regulus answered, seemingly unsurprised by Sirius’ swearing; it was just something he’d been used to for ages, although he did inwardly cringe because of Sirius’ very young form saying it. “Remus isn’t as old as I am, though,” he added, patting Remus on the shoulder.
“Sirius, this is the year 2014. I’m sure you’ve noticed that the cartoons that are on, aren’t the ones you’re probably expecting.” Remus could hardly recall what cartoons had actually been on when they were eleven, but surely Sirius would, even if he was his correct age, “The both of us are supposed to be older,” He said, gesturing between himself and Sirius, “But I’ve been affected by the same thing you have. Regulus, however, is his correct age.” He glanced over at the younger, but older, Black.
He looked up Regulus, over to Remus, then back to Regulus again. Sirius smirked and commented, “At least you both grew up to be pretty good looking. So do we have any clothes that’ll actually fit me? Or does this mean I get to go shopping?”
Oh god, Regulus hadn’t even thought of that. He should have, but he guessed seeing Sirius at this age was enough of a shock to put clothes buying low on the list of priorities. He sighed, rubbing at his temple for a moment. “I guess this means we’ll have to take you shopping,” he answered. He looked at Remus, half a smile on his own lips. “I could always get Kreacher to take him if he continues to be a horse’s ass.”
Shopping for an eleven year old Sirius with Regulus was going to be an interesting experience in itself. “I suppose we should,” Remus himself, hadn’t been that much skinnier when he was nineteen, so it could make his own clothes work for the time being, “He’ll need something to wear out though.” He had almost forgotten that Regulus had the Black’s house elf from the dreams and he stifled a laugh at the thought, “That would be a disaster,”
“Who’s Kreacher?” Sirius demanded to know. “And if I’m really an adult, that means I don’t have to go to school. Right?”
“You’ll find out,” Regulus answered, almost sweetly. He resisted the urge to touch Remus on the smooth surface of his cheek. Age was a funny thing. Even though Remus wasn’t that much older than Regulus, there were times when Remus looked much older. Now, he looked young and handsome and it reminded Regulus just why he gravitated toward him: Remus was something he couldn’t have. He was Sirius’. He was also lovely. While Regulus was certain he wasn’t gay, he wouldn’t have minded having a piece of that little puzzle. School was a different question, but he supposed Sirius was correct on that one, and anyway, this probably wouldn’t last long enough for Sirius to even need to go to school. “Say, Remus,” Regulus said, as if he’d suddenly realized something. “Gays adopt bratty little children all the time, don’t they?”
Remus may have been oblivious at times, but it certainly wasn’t a secret that Regulus had some sort of attraction to him; especially not after the brief kiss he’d given him about a year or so ago, before Sirius had returned, not long after Remus’ scars had appeared, but Remus liked to think that Regulus had gotten that out of his system once he’d gotten married and Remus and Sirius had gotten together again. At least he liked to tell himself that, despite the fact that Regulus still commented on Remus’ appearance quite often, “No, you won’t have to go to school.”
His attention was brought back to Regulus as the, usually, younger Black spoke and he gave a slight shake of his head, “I suppose they do.” He couldn’t recall if they had known what gay meant when they were eleven. He knew that he, himself, hadn’t realized his attraction to Sirius until he was fourteen and even then, Remus was still attracted to women not that that mattered at the moment since he was with Sirius and didn’t plan on being with anyone else.
“What do gay people have to do with me needing clothes and being a kid? Maybe you really are Reg. He says all kinds of stupid things when he’s trying too hard to be clever,” Sirius grumbled in irritation. He had been watching both of them as they talked and his face lit up. He smirked up at Regulus, walked over, and reached up to poke him in the chest. “Ohhhh I get it. So you grew up to be a gay guy and you’ve got a crush on Remus?”
Unabashedly, Regulus gave shrug. "Who wouldn't?" Then he looked at Remus. It was, after all, a good chance to get back at Sirius for everything. He offered Remus his arm. "Shall we, darling?"
Quirking a brow, Remus glanced at Regulus then sighed softly, “I suppose.” He didn’t see any harm in humoring Regulus; after all it didn’t mean anything and he knew that the younger Black brother was simply trying to get a rise out of Sirius. This was going to be an interesting shopping trip and even more interesting if Sirius remembered this entire event when they were both back to normal.
