Romana was staring at her husband. Staring intently. She knew it was him. It looked like him. It wasn’t like she was looking at a stranger. It was just that this person in front of her was quite a bit older than her husband. It was still him though. She was probably gawking a bit. It was a wonder that her mouth wasn’t open and gaping at him. She was trying really hard not to come across like an idiot, but it was kind of odd considering that she didn’t know what the hell was going on. And it didn’t seem like he did either.
“Um.. love? You should.. go look in the mirror.” Well at least he wasn’t a woman? Not that it would have mattered. She’d love him either way.
Severus could feel it deep in his bones. He’d woken up this way. It was a struggle to sit up, he felt bigger, bulkier… older. “...I should.” Even his voice felt different. He climbed up out of bed and crossed to the mirror hanging on the wall. The sight of himself in there made him gasp. His eyes widened in shock, and he lifted his hands to touch his face. “What…??”
She couldn’t help but follow him over to the mirror and watch as he looked in the mirror. It wasn’t funny, though she did want to chuckle slightly at the look on his face. As if she had pranked him. “I have no idea. Did you accidentally take some aging potion or something?” Because for the life of her, she couldn’t understand what had happened. It was still pretty amusing.
“No, I…” He could have. Honestly. There was some of it in his home-lab right now. Alsoknownas the garage. But he was fairly certain he kept those flasks well labeled, and wouldn’t do anything so silly. “I couldn’t have. I just… this must be one of those things.” He was not amused. Not. Amused. At. All. “One of those strange, Orange County things.”
If he said he didn’t take anything, then she believed him. “Well.. at least you’re still handsome, even when you’re graying..” She smiled a bit and ruffled his hair slightly. “How’s it feel to have a much younger wife?” Okay so she was a little amused, but mostly because she wasn’t the one going through it all. “Do you feel all right?”
“I feel normal. Honestly, if this mirror wasn’t here, I wouldn’t have noticed a difference.” He said. “Though, my voice certainly sounds different, doesn’t it?” He added, then gave a little gasp. “Daisy… she’s going to be terrified.”
“Well good. I’m glad you’re all right. It does sound a bit deeper.” And she kind of liked the new voice. It was very sexy. Not that she didn’t want her younger husband back. “I don’t know.. maybe? I mean you still look like you.. maybe she won’t be.” She would have to cross her fingers.
“You’ll have to come up with some sort of explanation in case she’s confused. I could be my uncle or older brother, or family friend. Just… let’s not scare her.” Severus said, and then rushed to the closet to get dressed. If he was going to play the role of his own uncle, he’d have to be dressed when Daisy came in--which she was bound to do any minute now.
“I hope that my clothes still fit.”
“Okay, we’ll go with Uncle. Uncle what? Want a new name?” Romana was only slightly teasing him, but maybe this was for the better. She didn’t know how to explain to her daughter that dad was a bit older. And that eventually he would go back to normal. She hoped. “Oh well if they don’t, tell me and I’ll run to the store.. or something.” This was all so very odd.
“Laugh it up,” he responded, almost angrily to Romana. Though, he wasn’t really. He knew he’d be laughing about this soon. Soon enough, anyway. Severus nodded as he moved into his closet to pull on some clothes. Something that wouldn’t confuse Daisy, he hoped. He found some pants and a shirt, and though they were a little tight, they fit fine. Thankfully his older body wasn’t all that much bigger or taller than he was.
“Uncle… I don’t care. Whatever you think.” He said.
“Mommy! Mooommmmmyyyyyy!” Came the sound of Daisy’s voice calling from her bedroom. “Daddy!”
Romana didn’t mean to make him angry. Apparently he wasn’t ready to laugh about it yet. She apologized quietly and then changed into clothes herself. “Very well,” she said with a nod of her head. Upon hearing her daughter’s voice, she went out to greet Daisy before she came in and wondered why a strange guy was in bed with Mom.
“Hi dear..” she said, scooping her up and giving her a great big kiss. “Daddy’s not here though.. he had to go into work. But.. I want to introduce you to your uncle.. your daddy’s brother.”
Daisy wrapped her arms around her mother, and kissed her cheek in return. A few times. Then she turned to look at her Daddy’s uncle. She blinked. And turned to look at her mother. “Mommy… that’s just Daddy.” She said, giving a sort of a ‘duh’ tone that only toddlers and then teenagers can muster.
Severus blinked. “How does she know who I am?” He asked, turning from his daughter to his wife. That was strange and bizarre. This place had changed his appearance. How did his daughter know him?
She looked a bit confused at Daisy’s sudden insistence that this was her father. Really? She could tell? “I.. have no idea.” Looking back at Daisy, she hm’d a bit. “You know that’s Daddy? You can tell that’s him?” That was so strange. “I guess it’s not totally impossible that she knows who you are. I mean you look like you.. it’s not like you look like a stranger.”
Maybe they shouldn’t question it and just take it for what it was.
“Daddy!” Daisy cheered, and nearly flung herself out of her mother’s arms and into Sev’s.
With a gentle chuckle, he caught her and took her out of Romana’s arms. She was pregnant, she shouldn’t be carrying thirty pounds of child, too. “All right. Not questioning it. Love you, Daisy,” he said, and gave her a tight hug and a kiss to her hair.
“I love you, Daddy,” Daisy said, hugging him back. “And I love you, Mommy,” she said, turning to grin at Romana. “And I love you, Baby Brother!”
Well that answered that then. Romana looked a little relieved and happily passed the girl onto her father. She was rather glad that she didn’t have to go explaining who some odd man was in their house and why she’d never heard of an Uncle whoever in the first place.
“I love you, too, sweet pea.” She smiled and put a hand on her stomach. “I think baby brother is saying he loves you too, he’s kicking quite a bit.”
Severus took a step closer to Romana and lowered his free hand to rest against her stomach. “He’s awake and kicking. Can’t wait to meet you, David,” he said, running his thumb gently back and forth against her tummy. Then he leaned over and stole a kiss from Romana’s lips.
“Eeew!” Daisy said, though she was grinning.
“Come on, Stinker, let’s go get breakfast,” Severus said, bouncing Daisy on his hip. “Cereal with milk? Think my cholesterol can handle it?” He added to Romana. Finally kidding a little bit about his strange appearance.
The baby was indeed kicking quite a bit. Romana laughed and kissed him back while their daughter squirmed a bit. She followed the two of them down to the kitchen. “I suppose it can, if it’s Cheerios or something,” she teased back. At least he was starting to find it funny.
“I think I’m going to have some oatmeal.”
“Oatmeal for you.” Severus said, and he put Daisy down in the chair with her booster seat attached. “Sit. I’ll have breakfast ready in two minutes.” He squeezed Romana’s shoulder and then popped into the kitchen to cook for his family.
Daisy reached forward to where the crayons and coloring book sat in the middle of the table. “Mommy, color with me.”
“Okay, you don’t need to tell me twice.” Especially if someone else was going to make breakfast. She went to sit down beside Daisy and picked up a crayon. “And what are we coloring today? Are you going to make me a pretty picture? You should make your baby brother a picture. I’m sure he’d like that.”
“Okay!” Daisy said. She was almost completely in ‘scribble mode.’ She opened the coloring book to the first open page, and started to color in the shapes that were there. Whatever it was. A cat, a ball of yarn, a basket… they were all getting colored in green.
Severus moved quickly around the kitchen and put together breakfast for the three of them, giving Romana and Daisy a moment to color.
Romana colored along with her daughter, letting her do most of the work but helping out where she could. She noticed that her daughter was getting better about coloring in the lines. Not that Romana ever told her to. She could do what she wanted. It was just coloring.
“Is green your favorite color?” she asked Daisy, noticing how much she was using it.
Daisy was still working on learning her colors. Green, red and blue were the ones that she gravitated to the most. nine times out of ten she would correctly guess the names of all of the colors of the rainbow. At Romana’s question, though, she shrugged her shoulders. “I like all the colors.”
Severus grinned as he prepared the oatmeal.
“I like all the colors too,” she said back to her daughter with a smile. She colored for a few minutes more before looking up to see that breakfast was pretty much ready. “All right, finish up so that we can eat.”
Severus waited until the girls were finished with their pictures before bringing the food to the table. “I think we should stay inside today. Or, at least, take it easy today. I don’t think I can go in to work looking like this.”
She couldn’t help but grin slightly. “No probably not. I don’t know what they’d do.” Putting the coloring books aside, she made sure that the table was cleared off so that Severus could give them their food. “I think I can definitely manage to stay home. You don’t have to ask me for an excuse not to get up in my current condition.”
“Good. Then I think we’ll have family games, play time, and movies all day today. How does that sound?” Severus asked, turning to Daisy. He brought breakfast to the table and put the dishes in front of his wife and daughter.
“Mo-Vie! Mo-Vie! Mo-Vie! Mickey Mouse Clubhouse??” Daisy bounced up and down in her booster chair. “OR My Lil Pony??”
“We can watch both if you want.” Romana agreed with a smile. She started to eat her breakfast. “That’s a good idea. I think we should play some board games too.”
“I think that’s a wonderful idea. We can play… those games you like, Daisy.” The one about the candy or the cherries or whatever. Severus didn’t mind. He had an incredible amount of patience when it came to what Daisy wanted to do. He sat down at the table and had breakfast with his women.
Actually Romana really liked those kids games for some reason. Maybe it was because they were simplistic in nature. Over complication of the rules was one of her least favorite things. She reached over and kissed Severus on the cheek. “Thank you for breakfast. I love you. No matter what you look like.”
Severus broke into a gentle smirk at the kiss to his cheek, and turned his dark eyes to meet hers. “I love you, too.”
