It had been late. As well as she could remember Verity only showered when there was someone to baby sit. She couldn’t speak for Charlie but she knew that she hadn’t been handed over the little girl. That meant that there was plenty of hot water for a long shower. She had been waiting all day for this moment. Actually she really hadn’t but after the day that she had she really needed a moment to herself. She could have easily taken a bath but she always preferred the sound of the water in a shower.
Standing in the center of the stream of water. Just breathing, in and out. It was like having a spa moment without stranger touching her all over. She tilted her head back to let the water run down her face and chest. Letting out a long sigh as she ran her fingers through her wet hair. If only she could escape there longer than the hot water would allow. As soon as the temperature started to change she went about normal shower routine. Washing her hair and scrubbing down her body. That way it wasn’t just wasted on the fact that it was the most relaxing moment of her day.
She stepped out and grabbed the towel she had set on the sink. The steam from the shower had done well to keep the bathroom warm as she dried off and slipped into her pajamas. She braced herself as she wrapped her fingers around the doorknob. She took a breath as pushed the door open. There was no hesitating after that. As soon as the cold air rushed against her skin she darted, quietly, for her bed. Covering herself up to her neck in the blankets. It took a moment for the cold feeling to fade away. As she waited until the warm returned to her body she listened to the rare quietness of the house. The stomps of her feet hadn’t woken the baby that slept only a room away.
Reaching over to her nightstand she turned off her light. She didn’t have work or school in the morning. It was the magical day know as Wednesday. Which usually isn’t a big deal to anyone. It was simply the day the day known as hump day but for her it was her day off. Usually because most tests seemed to fall on Thursday in her hardest class. She thought having that day off just made sense. Although she didn’t have a test this week. All she had was the whole day to herself, probably sleeping in until lunch was being served at most restaurants.
It didn’t take long for the brunette to fall asleep. She wasn’t kept awake by dreams of another life. There was nothing but normal dreams in her head.
Darkness faded out everything in the real world.
It was replaced by a jolt of light as she jumped up into a sitting position. She screamed as she pushed back against the headboard. It took her a minute to realize that she was at home. Safe and in her bed, not strapped to a chair. She panted as she looked around the room. It was real, it was.
