The brand new Keurig that Sam had purchased was, indeed, super fancy. Sam had shown it off to Rogue while ooing and aaahing over all the cool stuff that it did. She’d even pet it a few times and probably hugged it at least once while making them some delicious fancy coffee to drink. She couldn’t help it. It was her baby!
Then she’d dragged Rogue up to her bedroom. The master bedroom in the Croft mansion was huge, and had an attached balcony that overlooked the sea. It was a great place to sit and talk since it had its own little sitting area. But today, Sam wasn’t just gonna talk to her friend. She was super excited to rock out the clothing stuff.
She bounced on her feet as she opened up a clothing box, “OKay okay okay. You’re gonna love this! I’ve tried on the prototype myself so I am SO excited about this. We found this material that’s a combination of synthetics and organics so it’s very light and kinda stretchy but it breathes!”
Sam pulled out two very long gloves, and dangled them in the air. They were currently a boring beige color, the shade of the natural material, and seemed to have zippers at the top of them that extended halfway down them.
“Try them on! See, the zippers help you get your hands in them and they should go pretty far up your arms, but they’re the comfy zippers so you shouldn’t feel them too much. They should be skin tight but not too restricty.”
Rogue didn’t really mind the oohing and the ahhing. She wasn’t used to fancy stuff and it was new to her. She just bought her coffee at the shop. Easier that way. She’d come with her uniform in her bag, just to show Sam what she was talking about awhile ago. Rogue was unnaturally quiet, this was a bit overwhelming. Sam was overwhelming. But in a good way. Friends were still weird.
Rogue gingerly took the gloves, making sure not to touch Sam in the process, then carefully slipped them on, adjusting the fit as she turned her arms over, to examine them. Sam’s enthusiasm was almost contagious and Rogue was grinning a bit more than usual. “These are pretty fancy, Sam” she said turning her hands over, flexing her fingers, then her arms as she tested how they felt.
“These are pretty nifty, they feel great, actually.” she moved her arms around, took a few punches at the air and smiled sweetly. “Ah like em!” she grinned a bit before moving to pull the green suit, minus the cape, out of the bag. “This is what the OC gave me…”
"These should be the only gloves you have to wear and I had Portia make up a bunch of pairs of them, too, so don't worry about running out or them getting dirty. Oh! And you can dye them colors too if you want," Sam was so excited that the words almost bubbled out of her mouth.
The coffee probably wasn't helping.
She bounced a bit on her heels and reached down to finger the material of the uniform, "Oh my god that's awesome! You've got like... is that a hood? It's the most badass superhero costume ever."
“That would be nice, oui. Ah hate having to buy a ton of new ones.” she smiled. “ah like colors, might ‘ave to dye a couple green. How they handle getting roughed up?” she asked with her head tilted, a bright smile on her lips.
“Isn’t it neat?” she said shyly. “It is. There’s a cape too but ah left that at home. It’s a lil form fittin’ but ah think most are?” she laughed a bit and tilted her head at Sam. “Why you bein’ so nice ta me?” she asked curiously.
"Ooo, green would go really well with lots of stuff you own, too! And this costume." Sam encouraged, bouncing on her feet a bit. She was so happy that Rogue was taking to the gloves so well.
"They're a bamboo lycra mix, so they should be pretty tough. I haven't tried ruining a pair yet though, 'cause they're yours! But the best part is... well, come here and touch my arm."
Sam held her bare arm out to Rogue while answering her last question, "You're a good person, Lara likes you, and you're part of the crew! Why wouldn't I want to be nice to you?"
Rogue smiled at Sam. Sam was endearing. “Oooh yeah they should be, oui. Not something ah can tear up too easily but ah’ll have to give them a test run.” slender fingers ever so carefully reached out to touch Sam’s arm. She wasn’t too worried, but still you never knew.
“Ah’m not used to that, ah guess.” she answered honestly as she looked up at Sam, and smiled. “Ah’m used to fightin’ fer meself and not necessarily letting others help, ya know? Ah’ve gotten burned too many times.”
"Well that's totally understandable, I mean... Like, honestly? I know I'm all super friendly and in your face all over the place but I was a total loner before I met Lara. I've never really felt like I fit in anywhere, since my parents moved me around so much."
The skin contact was light at first, and Sam reached out to press Rogue's hand down on her arm a little more firmly. Then she picked Rogue's hand up and had her move her fingers around a little bit, "Totally hands on, sorry, but see? I'm not getting zapped at all, and you should be able to feel all of this, too. It should be pretty accurate to the 'real' thing, or like... me and Portia need to find a different material. But I tested them and I thought it was pretty good!"
Rogue kinda nodded along. Then smiled a bit. “Ah ran away from home pretty early. Stole my way across the country to California. Ain’t done much better since ah got here. Not many like me for it and a few hate me for who my Dream!mom was. or shit ah’ve done there, and ah admit, ah was not a good person.”
She was marveling at the cloth. “This stuff is amazin’, Sam, ah love it. Ah can totally feel this. It’s so different.” her eyes were sparkling a bit though, she was excited.
"You can't even help who your dream mom is! God that's so unfair. I'd threaten to beat them up but like... you probably have that covered anyway." Sam joked. She knew Rogue liked a good fight. If she was more fighty, herself, she'd probably join her sometime.
"Yeah and like... okay here's the best part. If I can get some measurements from you I can get her to tailor a bodysuit of this stuff that you can slip into. With uhm..." Sam smirked a bit, "Convenient zippers in places."
Rogue rolled her eyes. “Oh joy. as if ah need them” she laughed softly. “Thanks, though.” she brushed her hair out of her eyes and grabbed her coffee, taking a drink. “It’s alright, ah’m used to it. Ah think dream me wasn’t the best person in the world, ya know?” she shrugged “Ah don’t mind so much.”
