Since the Archdemon had been killed, Alistair had been attempting to go back to normal life or as normal as one could be when they were now a Grey Warden. He’d noticed that since he’d dreamt of becoming a Warden, he’d begun to fill out more, his shoulders a little broader, his stomach more defined and he was able to hold his longsword much easier than he had during the Blight. He’d also noticed that his appetite had grown as well. He was eating more at each meal, which he could live with so long as he didn’t have anymore of those nightmares. He hadn’t had any since Maia had killed the Archdemon and he hoped they didn’t return.
Speaking of Maia, he needed to see her and apologize for acting jealous and selfish over the whole baby thing. After watching her kill the Archdemon, Alistair had realized that he wouldn’t have been able to watch her die. Not only would it have been devastating, but he would have blamed himself if it had been because he’d said no when Zevran offered to be the one to impregnate her. Now that he was able to think rationally about it, it made all the sense in the world for Zevran to offer. They were friends and who better to do it then a friend as opposed to a stranger?
They had decided that Alistair was going to come by on Sunday, so when the day rolled around, he headed over to Maia’s house and once there, he rang the doorbell and waited.
Maia’s body had changed too, of course. That she was harder in a lot of places. She thought some of her curves had vanished a little which was mildly disappointing, but Pam still liked to devour her and she was totally okay with that.
She was still trying to figure out how to deal with the fact that she was alive. Aside from copious celebrating with Pam.
She opened the door and her face brightened at seeing Alistair. She missed everyone, every day, so seeing him made everything better again. She was going to be a mother dear Maker what has she done
Alistair smiled as he saw Maia on the other side of the door, looking much better than the last time he’d seen her just after the Archdemon had been killed, “Hi. How’re you?” He was a little nervous, knowing how hostile he’d acted towards her in the mine when Marian had brought up morning sickness. He’d still been upset about it then, but now it didn’t seem like such a big deal.
“Well enough for probably needing to be a dead woman,” She said, stepping aside to let him in. “Come in, would you like some tea? Or something harder, I’m afraid I can’t drink that for awhile.”
“Thanks.” Alistair stepped inside, past Maia then turned to her, “Tea would be fine. Thanks.” He felt a little awkward, unsure of exactly how to start this off. It had been easier with Zevran, because he knew Zevran. Yes, he knew Maia, but not in the same way. He supposed there was time though. They weren’t going to have this conversation standing right by the door after all, “For what it’s worth, I’m glad you’re not dead.”
She nodded and moved into the kitchen to get the kettle going - you’d never catch her microwaving water for her tea. “Well I’m glad to hear that.” She winked at him over the kettle as she set it on. “Have a seat anywhere, my flat is your flat if you ever need it.”
Alistair followed Maia into the kitchen and took a seat at the table, “I wanted to apologize.” He figured it was now or never, before he lost his nerve and he needed Maia to know this, “I wanted to apologize for how I acted in regards to you and Zevran. I was jealous and selfish.” He bit his bottom lip as he watched her, waiting for a response.
Maia looked down at her hands for a moment, then back up at Alistair. “I forgive you. There’s not really much to forgive, you got jealous, and that’s...understandable. I was asking quite a bit, I know. I still have to really have it out with Pam, I’m sure.”
Alistair nodded and ran a hand through his hair, “I still feel bad about it though. It makes complete sense that Zevran would volunteer. I mean, he’s someone you know and not some stranger. If it weren’t for the fact that I was still….I might have done it, but I’ll admit, that took me a little off guard, when you asked.” He hadn’t realized that he’d begun to use the past tense when talking about his virginity until after and part of him hoped that she wouldn’t pick up on that.
“It’s a little hard. Knowing things that you don’t. Part of me wants to sit you down and tell you anything, but then you might run away.” She brought the tea over, and gave him a knowing smile. “Zevran is everything they say he is, hmm?”
Alistair nodded, "It's more than a little frustrating, knowing that everyone else knows things I don't. Knowing that you all know things about me that I don't" He gave a small shrug, "But at the same time, I'd kind of like to find it all out for myself." He thanked Maia as she handed him the cup and he blew across the top of the hot liquid as she spoke again. If he tried to act naive then it would be obvious that he was acting so instead, he took a sip of his tea before responding, "What?"
She couldn’t help but grin. “Oh, nothing love. You’ve just got a bit of a swagger.” She took a seat and held her cup in her hands, taking comfort from the warmth. Truthfully she was terrified by what she’d gotten herself into, but she couldn’t exactly show that in front of….anyone.
As much as he tried not to give anything away, his body betrayed him as his cheeks flushed deeply and he gazed down at the table despite the fact that nothing but a paper bag would hide his blush, "Damnit."
Maia laughed. “Adorable and flustered as ever, I’m glad some things never change. Honestly I’m shocked Zevran’s moved so slowly, but perhaps I shouldn’t be. He’s really a sweet man.” This was better than talking about Old God Babies.
Alistair sighed and ran a hand through his hair, his cheeks still red, "He said it's because he likes me so much. Though, he didn't....he's pretty...well endowed, so I was the one who..." It would still take some time before Alistair was the one bottoming. "And he is. Sweet." Back when Alistair only knew Zevran as a porn star on screen, he had never thought that he'd be so down to earth and caring.
She tried to not giggle, but it was really hard. She didn’t want to make him any more embarrassed than he already was. (okay she did but that was besides the point). She lifted her tea to her lips to sip it lightly. “I’m sorry. For what it’s worth. I know the whole thing upset you.”
Alistair would have been embarrassed if he'd been talking to Zevran about this, so it wasn't just because it was Maia. The color in his cheeks finally started to return to normal as he nodded. "It's okay. I mean, I think I was mostly upset, because we hadn't done it yet. When he quit doing porn, when we started dating, I didn't think I'd have to worry about anyone else sleeping with him while I wasn't." He paused, worrying his bottom lip slightly, "But you're not just anyone and it was different. And I'm okay that it was him."
“Me too,” Maia admitted. “He’s someone I trust, you both are. I can’t think of anyone not from our world that I’d trust enough for this.” She wrinkled her nose. “Maker, Oghren would be better than some of the other choices.”
Alistair quirked a brow, "I haven't met Oghren yet. I'm guessing from your tone though that I'll know him when I see him?" He had a feeling that there a lot of people from the dreams that he hadn't met yet. Sebastian, Marian and Isabella to name a few. "I'll be honest, I can't even imagine what any kid of Zevran's is gonna be like. Do you think it'll have elf ears?" He smirked, teasing Maia a bit.
“Dwarf with the personality of the most…” She waved a hand. “He’s a pig. A short, rude, constantly drunk pig. And I kind of hope so, actually. That would be cute!”
Alistair laughed as a mental image of a pig that looked like a dwarf came to mind, “He sounds lovely. I’m looking forward to meeting him.” He knew there were dwarves in Ferelden and recalled seeing them in the dreams when he was growing up, on occasion. “That would be pretty cute actually. Just gotta hope that the kid doesn’t inherit Zev’s height too.” Or lack there of.
“Lovely…” Maia giggled. “A very lovely man. Very short and stout and crude. He often forgot his pants!” She straightened a little bit. “Bugger that would be a problem wouldn’t it?”
Alistair made a face as Maia continued describing Oghren, wrinkling his nose a bit, “Something tells me that’s not something anyone wants to see.” He took a sip of his tea and chuckled after swallowing, “So, lets hope the baby gets his ears and your height.”
“Agreed. And it’ll be a magic baby. I’m not sure if I want a girl or boy more.” She chewed on her lip. “Or if Pam will even still want me after all of this…”
“I feel like a girl would be spoiled beyond belief. A boy, you’d have to be careful that he didn’t take after Zevran.” Alistair smirked at the thought of it. It was strange, two weeks ago, the last thing he’d thought he’d be doing was talking to Maia so easily about the fact that she was pregnant with his boyfriend’s kid, but he was glad that he had come around and had this chance, “Hey, if I was able to come around then I think she will too.” He reached over and squeezed Maia’s hand.
“Love, between me and Zevran, we’re the last two people you’d ever see in a relationship,” Maia admitted. “This child is likely to be as much a slut as either of us, and I’m perfectly okay with that. And thank you.” She glomped onto him and squeezed hard.
