Ashley had no idea what she was about to walk in on. She thought she was coming in to visit her mom and ask for an opinion about dogs. Well, the random other car in the driveway was confusing and she frowned at it as she walked by it. Strange. Maybe it was some client. She'd look and if so, she'd leave. That was how things worked.
She was dressed in uniform today, as she was entirely on call. She'd only wanted to stay for a few minutes anyway, long enough to ask her mother's opinion, say hi to Winnie, talk a little, and head back out. Turning the doorknob, she found it unlocked. Pushing open the door in the middle of a conversation she was unaware of even happening inside, she started talking over them: "So I had this idea after I left last ti-"
And then she entered the other room and saw something she had never wanted to see in her life. Was that a weapon... pointed at her mother? Her hand flew to the gun at her hip, but even though her fingers wrapped around it, she didn't pull it out. Drawing a weapon inside was a bad thing. Drawing a weapon inside her mother's house and aiming it at the man she was spending a good deal of time with? Worse.
"Please tell me I'm not seeing what I think I'm seeing."
If Helen was paying attention, she would notice that Ashley's expression and body language were mimicking what she looked like every time she got particularly fearful over what happened to her mother. Ashley didn't like what she was seeing and considering she actually did approve of this guy, she was hoping there was a misunderstanding in there somewhere.
