And so Varric leaned closer as well, his hand on her arm as he described the grand tale of the Fair Maiden being chased by the Abandoned Hope and the fierce englishwoman who'd sworn vengeance upon Captain Sal.
The Maiden was Sal's second ship, after she'd scuttled the first one as a fireship, to escape the French and British. A fast sloop, she outran the Hope on numerous occasions, only to finally face her opponent alone, in a steamy jungle, "The battle of swords and wit had quickly turned to a battle of tongues and hands as the two opponents clashed bodily to the jungle floor. And when their cries of passion had faded, Sal rested her head on the woman's chest and wondered if she could ever conquer another after this."
