Considering stuff that had gone down recently, Gin had thought it over made a few decisions about what direction he wanted the rest of his...unlife...to take. Directions that would include a.) Rangiku and b.) not getting killed again.
He wandered through the house, seeing if he could find her.
Rangiku was sprawled on the couch, reading something, nothing she was overly excited about though and looked up when he wandered in. She canted her head at him and smiled a bit. “Hey you.” she closed the magazine and threw it on the coffee table.
“What’s up? You look pensive.”
"Nothin' much." He plopped down next to her with his usual smile, like a cat that had caught a canary. "Wanted ta talk to ya. I gotta proposition."
He must have been letting the excitement build up, because he didn't tell her what it was yet. Instead, he sat there, unhelpfully. For the time being, at least.
“You do huh?” she tucked her legs up and canted her head at him, eyes narrowing to focus on him, trying to puzzle him out. She pushed a strand of hair out of her eyes and pursed her lips a little.
“Alright, then, what is it?” she was overly curious about what he was making her wait on.
Gin reached into a pocket and took out a little box, flipped it open with one finger and held it out.
"It's good an' bad," he said, like a sly lil sucka. "I wanna marry you. That's the good part. What'ya say, Rangiku?"What about that bad part again?
Rangiku just stared at him for all of ten seconds like he was on crack with six heads. Then practically pounced tackled him on the couch. The little sly bastard! After she was done squeezing the ever living love out of him she sat back.
“Oooh yes!!” she grinned at him and resisted the urge to tackle him again then she narrowed her eyes for a moment. suddenly suspicious of his reasoning behind this. “Wait, that means you actually acknowledge us as a thing. You feeling okay?”
Gin grinned after the tackling and skeezing, and promptly went eyedarty behind his perpetually squinted up eyes.
"That's the bad part. This part's good and I wanna give that to ya, if I can. So, here." He took her hand and slipped the engagement ring onto her finger. "Trouble is, since I did bad stuff an' I'm gettin' outta doin' bad stuff, we gotta leave. Go someplace quiet, where we lay low an' stay outta trouble. I got the money for that, but...can't stay here."
Because dead will happen again, that's why.
She almost smacked him for it. But she smiled a bit. She was overwhelmed at the moment with all the things. He really knocked her off guard. Rangiku wiggled her finger, grinning at the ring, that was so coooool. Then she looked up at him.
“If that’s the price to pay for this? I’ll take it” she said softly, and honestly, knowing to trust him enough. She wanted him around. He left the dead again part out but she heard it just the same.
He didn't leave out the dead part. That was an important piece of him coming to this sort of decision. Nothing worse than an assassin who started to develop a conscience.
"Yep. Gonna have too many people tryin' ta kill me, and I know ya don't want me to end up dead a second time. I don't wanna put ya through that, either. So I found us a nice lil' house with our own private beach, down in Brazil. Close enough ta drive for shopping in a big city, but not anywhere near where pryin' eyes can see."
And if they did try to see, Gin would know they were coming and kill 'em dead.
"I'd much rather you not end up dead a second time, I'm rather partial to you being around." She said with a mock glower. She really didn't like thinking about him being dead. It was unhappy memories.
"Mmmm Brazil huh, good choice. Warm, fun and you got us a beach?" She grinned at him and leaned over to kiss him softly. "You really are good to me, you know".
Rangiku was more than up to murdering anyone who got in the way of their happiness and retirement.
He gave her a kiss back and smiled, afterward. It really was an early, lifetime retirement. He had more than enough money stashed away all over to last them...a couple of lifetimes together, at the very least. He even budgeted in her shopping sprees.
"I'm tryin' ta be good to ya," he admitted, "since I was bad to ya, before. Ain't gonna try for a repeat performance. Noooooope." Before she brought it up, he added, "I'm leavin' Jessie this house. Got it all property tax paid an' titled out to her an' everything, cuz she's been sucha good roommate. She deserves it."
Rangiku want going to admit she was ready to cry for how excited she was. She never thought this would actually happen. But she was never going to press the issue, now she didn't have to.
"You're doing well at this being good to me thing. You picked Brazil just so you could see me in a bikini a lot huh?" She teased with a big smile. "That's awesome, she's a great friend"
"Yeeeeep. Doin' that means that I'm bein' good to myself, by lookin' at you in a bikini," Gin teased back, followed by a nod of his head. "She is, an' her an' the critters need a place to stay. This' it. I'm not gonna go booting her out onta the street or nothin'. We can draw straws on who tells her, but I don't mind doin' it. If ya want me to."
After a quiet moment, he asked, "We're leavin' right away. I got us passports an' tickets. Take what ya wanna take and say who ya wanna say goodbye to, but keep it quiet. No details. Don't wanna leave any trail anyone can follow."
"I'll tell her, it's something I would do."she smiled gently at him. "You spoiling yourself by taking us to Brazil." She brushed her hair out of her eyes and smiled at him. He was a good man when he wanted to be.
"I understand, we want a quiet life, not a messy one" she kissed his cheek softly and nodded. "I'll take the necessities I can replace everything else." Rangiku was going to be happier than anyone else. This was perfect for her, for them. "Hey I love you" she was excited and happy.
"I love ya too, Rangiku," Gin said, followed by a long kiss. He could be good when he wanted to be. Emphasis on the wanting to part. The really good part is that he wanted to be that way, for her, and not make the same mistakes as before.
It was as simple as that.
