Your husband has great taste. Who: Rarity and Portia When: Late February Where: Coffee Shop What: Meeting and planning Rating/Warning: Low/None Status: Complete
Rachel was excited to meet up with Portia. They’d talked a little bit about winter weddings, and Rach was excited to hear what Portia had in mind. Perhaps together they could put together the world’s most amazing wedding! Even though Rachel and Kevin were legally married, they still wanted to have the big party in the wintertime. That way their parents could come along and see.
She arrived early to the coffee shop and sat with her wedding planning binder and a latte by one of the windows, waiting for the other to arrive.
Portia was looking forward to meeting Rachel too, she’d liked the other women's vibe - well as much as you could get a vibe through the internet.
Arriving at the coffee shop she waved as she saw her and indicated she’d be over after grabbing a coffee. “Hi, it’s good to meet you” she said once she had her coffee and made her way to Rachel’s table, “How are you? Oh and Congratulations”
Rachel stood to greet the other woman with a handshake, then sat again and offered the chair opposite to Portia. “Hi! It’s good to meet you, too. Thanks. I’m getting used to being actually married. Though, we’ve been living together so long, not a whole lot has changed so far.”
Portia shook the other woman’s hand before taking the seat opposite her. “I can imagine it would be a little strange and yet the same” she smiled, “But do you still get that thrill when you talk about him as your husband? I knew a girl once who kept forgetting and calling her husband her boyfriend, we pointed it out so often”
Rachel laughed a little. “It’s only been… well, a couple of weeks. I’m still getting used to it. I just love the way the rings look on my finger.” She said, and then held her hand out to show them off. “They’re so sparkly!”
“Oh, I don’t blame you. They are gorgeous” Portia said as she admired Rachel’s rings. “Your husband has great taste”
“Thank you!” Rachel said, then gave her fingers a little wiggle. “I’ve been training him well. What about you? Is there a special someone in your life?” The small talk always came first.
“You’re obviously doing a wonderful job” Portia answered before shaking her head, “Not in a while. My last relationship was somewhat...painful in it’s conclusion”
“Oh, I’m sorry,” Rachel said, shaking her head. Her face fell a bit. “I hate that. Gosh, I feel like I’ve been with Kevin for so long I’ve forgotten what it’s like to have a break up.”
"Oh please, don't let me put a downer on things" Portia said quickly, "It wasn't messy. We agreed it would be better it just...hurt a little more than I'd anticipated. But I have exciting new projects to keep me going" she smiled.
“Well, staying busy is very important,” Rachel said. “Let’s talk winter weddings. What do you think? Everything has to be in silver, purple and white. Possibly with baby blue accents.”
“I think that’ll work really well” Portia nodded, “Everything will look very classy and crisp. Have you thought about styles of dresses? Are you having bridesmaids?”
“I… Well, I was thinking about asking my husband’s best friend’s girlfriend? She’s a friend of mine. I think she could stand on my side. And then, of course, is my little sister, for a flower girl. And I’ll have to dress my mother and father--they’re clueless when it comes to this sort of thing,” Rachel said, grinning softly. “I’ve got about a thousand ideas when it comes to my dress.”
“That’s a lovely idea. Quite a nice small main wedding party then” Portia thought that always looked much nicer than women who had lots of bridesmaids. It would certainly fit with the style of the wedding. “I’m sure we’ll be able to dress them all perfectly” she smiled brightly, “Well let’s hear a few of them and see what we can work out”
“I’m a designer, so I can make my own dress,” Rachel said. “I was imagining something sleek and modern, with straight lines that’ll hug my curves.” She had a lovely figure and wanted to show it off. “And I’ll put Pepper in something white with purple and baby blue accents.” She didn’t mind dressing her bridesmaid in white, too. White was the major color theme for the wedding, anyway.
“Of course and you have me at your disposal” Portia smiled, “You have a beautiful figure, sleek is definitely the way to go” Nodding Portia made a few notes on a little notepad she had, “White for your bridesmaid too, okay”
Rachel broke into a grin. “Perfect! Yes, she’ll have lots of color in her dress, too. And the same colors for vests, ties and cumberbunds on the groomsman.” She thought aloud.
“Oh absolutely, that will look beautiful in the wedding photographs as well. It will really tie the wedding party together” Portia nodded.
“What colors and things did you use for the wedding you planned for the wintertime?” Rachel asked. “I’m wondering about flowers. I mean, I’m not even sure what’s in season in the winter!”
“A lot of blue actually” Portia replied, digging in her bag, “I brought a few pictures to show you. It very much had a water and ice kind of feel to it”
“Oh, I can’t wait to see them!” Rachel exclaimed, then broke into a grin as she thought of something. “An ice sculpture! I love that idea. I mean, winter in California is mild compared to some places, but the idea’s wonderful. Everyone equates winter with cold, snow and ice, even if there isn’t ever snow on the ground.”
Portia removed the pictures from her bag and handed them over to Rachel, “I love ice sculptures, they look so pretty. Even when they start melting. And never say never, you know what it’s like around here”
“Well, that’s true.” Rachel said, accepting the pictures. She gasped. “This is beautiful! I love what you did here.” She said, and laid all the pictures on the table in front of her so she could get a good look at them.
“Thank you” Portia smiled, she had been particularly proud of that shoot. It had been a nice brief to work on and she’d enjoyed putting it all together. She sipped her drink as Rachel looked at the pictures.
“It’s lovely. I think you and I could really put something amazing together! That is… if you want to work with me.” Rachel said, for the first time realizing she may be making too many plans all at once!
“Of course I do” Portia grinned, “You’re absolutely lovely and I think we’ll have a fun time working together” she confirmed. She had a good feeling about this girl.
“Wonderful! All right. That sounds like a plan to me.” She gave her new friend a bright smile.
