I just love you so much.
Who: Aurora and Mulan
What: An ice-skating date
When: A few days ago
Where: A rink!
Status: complete
Rating: PG

Aurora hadn’t been ice skating in a long time, but she’d thought that it might be a fun date type thing for her and Mulan to do. She was sure that she was going to fall on her butt a bunch of times, but she was comforted by the fact that Mulan more than likely wouldn’t laugh at her and if she did, it wouldn’t be in a mean way. Just like the last time they’d gone out, Aurora had spent awhile trying to figure out what to wear and had finally settled on a pair of skinny jeans and purple top with a denim jacket over it. She had debated going a little dressier, but figured that wasn’t practical for ice skating.

They had agreed to meet at the rink and Aurora had gotten there a few minutes earlier and was currently waiting just outside the rink, watching each car that pulled into the parking lot.

Mulan would fall over too. Her balance was pretty good but she hadn’t done this… ever. But something fun to do with Aurora might take the sting out of her dream. They’re going to have a baby. Where did that leave her? Anywhere but there. Anywhere. In her dreams, her last hopes had been dashed, and her spirit broken, at least the part that could stand to watch the prince and princess together.

She parked and got out, then walked up to Aurora. Feeling brave, she leaned in and kissed her lightly. “Hey.”

Aurora spotted Mulan’s car as it pulled in and she stood up straighter as the other woman walked towards her. “Hi.” Aurora’s stomach felt like a hundred butterflies were crammed inside of it as Mulan kissed her and she couldn’t help but let a small smile spread across her lips, “How’re you?” It was silly, how much happier she seemed to get when she was near Mulan, but at the same time, it wasn’t any sillier than being a princess in her dreams.

“I’m very good.” Much better with that smile on Aurora’s face. It was like staring into the sun and Mulan was happy to let herself be blinded. For now she could forget the heartbreak of the dreams and just enjoy what she had awake.

“That’s good. I don’t know what I would have done if you’d said you weren’t doing good,” She smirked, dropping her gaze briefly to the ground then back up to Mulan, “So, should we go in?” She thought about it for a moment before extending her hand to the other woman, “We’ll have to rent skates. Hopefully they’re not too dull otherwise I’m gonna keep falling on my butt.”

Mulan took Aurora’s hand, and now her face was hurting from smiling so much. “I’ll catch you if you fall,” she promised, and let Aurora lead her in. It was a bit noisy, but she didn’t mind. She didn’t even mind any looks they got.

They did get a few looks, but no one said anything, so Aurora tried not to notice. Approaching the skate rental area, Aurora told the girl her size then turned to Mulan, “It’s on me.” She smiled and waited for Mulan to get her skates, glancing around the rink a little as she did.

She gave her size as well, and then took her skates once they were handed over. "Then I'll pay for the next date." Mulan even winked a little, flirting awkwardly. At least she was trying! She walked over to a bench to put the skates on, lacing them quickly.

“Alright.” Knowing that there would be a next date made Aurora smile and after paying for the skates, she followed Mulan to the bench and took off her sneakers and replaced them with the skates. “I guess we just leave our shoes here.” She said, glancing around to see where other people were leaving their stuff.

"Yes I believe so." Mulan carefully got up and made her way to the ice. She wanted to be ready for Aurora in case the woman had trouble. Excuses to touch etc etc. Which was a topic she had no idea how to approach. For the times they'd made out her hands hadn't wandered anywhere but Aurora's hair and her back and shoulders. Maybe a little bit at the waist. "Try not to fall over on the way here."

Aurora got to her feet as well, balancing on the skates for a moment before she started following Mulan, “That would be just like me to eat it before I even got on the ice.” She said, eyes wandering over Mulan’s back and rear a bit as she followed, cheeks flushing a little as she caught herself. She still wasn’t completely used to the idea that Mulan wouldn’t get upset if she caught Aurora checking her out so she tried to hide it on the occasions when she did.

She smirked, feeling confidence even though this was a new situation. She didn't catch Aurora staring at her, and would be both pleased and embarrassed if she did. Aurora spent a lot of time running around in her head, and Mulan was a little more obvious when she checked her out. "ready?"

“Yeah,” Aurora stepped onto the ice when they reached it and moved aside to allow Mulan to get on the ice, her arms out at her sides to steady herself. She’d forgotten what it felt like to be on the ice and was pretty sure that she was going to fall if she moved too much, “I’m starting to think this might not have been the best idea. I’m gonna hold you to that promise to catch me if I fall.”

Mulan laughed, drifting on the ice behind Aurora and hugging her from behind. She murmured into her ear, breath warm in comparison to the air off the the ice. “I’ve got you.”

Aurora hadn’t expected to feel Mulan’s arms wrap around her when the other woman skated behind her, but she smiled none the less, a small shiver running down her spine as Mulan’s breathed ghosted over her ear since her hair was pulled back. “Oh good. Now if I fall, you’ll break it.” She bit her bottom lips, cheeks still tinged pink.

“Maybe I’ll knock you over so I can have you on top of me,” Mulan replied, blushing. She kissed the back of Aurora’s neck, brushing some hair aside to do so. God. Her warrior self dreamed of doing this, and here she was able to. It was a little overwhelming.

Aurora’s eyes went wide as Mulan spoke and kissed the back of her neck, “People are going to start staring.” Afterall, they were just standing there on the ice, probably in the way of other people and there were children around. Aurora didn’t want any parents to get upset at them even if she was enjoying the feeling of Mulan’s arms around her.

“Let them,” But Mulan started to push Aurora along so they could start to skate, and shifted to her left side, taking her hand and squeezing. She had this overwhelming urge to admit things in words.

Aurora’s fingers laced with Mulan’s as they started skating along with everyone else and she was surprised to find that she was actually pretty steady on her feet, “So, what’d you do today?” She asked, glancing over at Mulan as they skated along slowly.

“Coached a game, then spent the rest of the day at home. My exciting life. I’m considering becoming a cop.” She looked at Aurora out of the corner of her eyes, gauging her reaction. She hoped Aurora liked a uniform.

Aurora could have sworn that Mulan mentioned something about becoming a cop once before, but so much had happened over the last few months that she couldn't quite remember, "Really? Have you looked into like what you'd need to do? Would you have to go to Police Academy?" It did worry her that Mulan could get hurt as a cop, but she seemed like she could take care of herself pretty well.

“I might be able to skip right to detective, but I have to talk to the right people,” she said. Maybe she had mentioned it before. She guided Aurora around the ice rink, until she stopped them so she could sneak in a kiss. Just because she could.

“That’d be pretty cool. What city would you be working in?” Aurora asked, but instead of an answer she got a kiss, which caused her cheeks to flush once again. “Mulan…” There were so many kids and their parents that she was expecting one of the parents to yell at them for their PDA because they were both women.

“Sorry,” Mulan breathed. She pulled away, then tucked some hair behind Aurora’s ear. “I shouldn’t have. I’m sorry.” She started to skate away to give her space. She wondered when Aurora would dream about Phillip again. Saving him. Sleeping with him. Carrying his baby. Would the pregnancy carry over?

Aurora bit her bottom lip as she watched Mulan and skated towards her, “No, it’s just that…” She glanced around at the other people around them, “I don’t want anyone to tell us that what we’re doing….that it’s wrong.” She glanced down at her skates as they moved over the ice then back up at Mulan, “I know I shouldn’t worry, but I can’t help it.”

Mulan took Aurora’s hand. “I’m sorry. I just don’t want you to feel pressured, especially in public. And it’s really hard to..hold myself back around you. I just love you so much.”

The warrior snapped her mouth shut but not before it was far too late.

Aurora’s eyes widened as those words left Mulan’s lips and she couldn’t help but stare at the other woman, “You….really? But we’re not even….I mean, not officially.” While they’d known each other for a few months now Aurora didn’t know how Mulan could say she loved her when they weren’t even actually dating dating. Was that normal? The guys she’d dated in the past had never said they loved her so soon.

Not the reaction that Mulan wanted to see. She put a stony mask in place and rubbed her arm. “That came out wrong. I mean, I’m very attracted to you.” Inwardly she cursed at her dreams for fucking her emotions over like this. She exhaled. “Maybe we should go.”

The last thing Aurora wanted to do was leave, because if they left then chances were the night would be over seeing how they'd driven separately and Aurora didn't want that, "No, we don't have to go." She squeezed Mulan's hand, "I just wasn't expecting that." She bit her bottom lip and despite the people skating around them, Aurora leaned in to give Mulan a quick kiss, "Now come on, we haven't even made it all the way around the rink." She was trying to make the rest of the night not awkward.

“Okay,” Mulan breathed, threading her fingers through Aurora’s. “Okay.”
