The battle isn’t going well. She accepted this a day ago as the Shinigami fought through her army. She’d been forced to unleash her abominations and her demons sooner than planned. She was struggling to raise a frost drake - something that made her sick to do. It was what Arthas would do, but Sylvanas never turned down power. No, she sends her frost wyrm into battle and then ascends to the top of her new citadel. The irony was not lost on her. She had her own Icecrown.
This was what she’d turned into.
And Setsuna was down there, but she’d expected that. She hadn’t expected it to hurt.
She draws an arrow, charging it with fell magic, and aims for the figures far, far below. She aims for Setsuna’s heart.
Setsuna hadn’t wanted to be here. But she’d had to be. The Shinigami were going after her friend. Her friend who had gone all evil on them, but Sylvanas was still her friend. And if that meant Pluto had to put her down herself, she would. No one got that right but her. The OC had worked it’s magic, she didn’t know how or why, but she knew what to do. Fingers had long since called her key staff into being, the garnet orb at the top glistening in the light.
Maroon eyes flicked up, and watched as the woman she called friend released the arrow. Her lips curled in faint annoyance, Setsuna needed to save her so Sylvanas couldn’t get away with killing her before then. ”Chronos typhoon!” she called out as she advanced, a cyclone headed towards the arrow, catching it in it’s swirling winds and sent it flying another way. She waded through the abominations not letting anything get in her way of getting to Sylvanas before the others.
Sylvanas narrowed her eyes as her arrow was deflected. She could have surrounded her arrow with even more dark energy but something made her hesitate. She turned and glared at her Dark Rangers. "Go! Stop them!"
The women bowed, and lept down into the fray.
Setsuna stared at the rangers joining the fray and quickly worked her way towards them. “Dead scream!” releasing the energy towards the closest one. The globe of energy hit the one in the center, knocking her back. She used her momentum to step on the fallen ranger and jump over the next, slamming the end of her staff into the back. She didn’t stop to look, she merely kept going forward, to get to where she could climb the citadel.
Sylvanas tossed her bow aside, drawing her sword instead. “Don’t do this.”
She didn’t know if Setsuna could hear her. She only knew that something compelled her to warn her away.
Setsuna set the end of her staff on the ground and faced Sylvanas. “It’s them or me, and I’d rather it be me here than any of them” she gestured lazily behind her. She pretty much ignore the group. “It’s not too late, Sylvanas.” she said, her voice soft but carrying.
"It was too late the moment my soul was ripped from my body," Sylvanas replied, her voice strong and defiant. "I died that day. I died and was reborn. It's just taken me this long to realize it."
“Never too late. But as you wish.” she twirled the staff into place. “I’m sorry to have to do this then, my friend.” Setsuna slid a foot back. She knew what she would have to do, in the end, but she wanted to wear her friend down, first, so she could get close enough for it to matter.
Sylvanas moved like water, flowing towards Setsuna like a liquid shadow. Her strike was quick and strong, but lacked in her usual precision. “It’s never enough, it’s never enough!”
Setsuna twisted to avoid getting hit too much, although she didn’t get out of the way completely. She didn’t really want to, either, this was as heartbreaking for her as it was painful. “I’m sorry things turned out this way” she said softly as she brought her staff down, she knew she was going to end this in a way that was going to be good for her friend, but she didn’t want to waste energy either, so she stayed with plain physical attacks. If she bled, she bled.
“Fight me! Fight me with everything you’ve got! If one of us is to fall into oblivion today let it be a battle to remember!” Sylvanas’s voice was consumed with rage, her eyes blazing like fire. Behind her, twin valkryies rose and dove towards Setsuna.
"You don't want that." Simply she replied, but put all her strength into her attack on her friend. Her eyes narrowed at the pair diving towards her. She couldn't let them get in her way. "Chronos typhoon!" She unleashed the cyclone on the pair even as she gave her attention back to sylvanas.
The Banshee Queen dove low, trying to cut across Setsuna’s stomach. She wouldn’t kill her forever. No. She’d bring her back. She knew how to do that now. She’d bring her back as one of her Forsaken. But not under her thrall. She wanted an ally, not a slave.
She took the slice to the gut, her outfit staining red quickly. The warmth of her blood surprising her, even though she was willing to die for the cause she wasn’t prepared to remember so many things at the same time. She took a deep breath and caught Sylvanas up in her arm, holding her close. “You bleed me, you would kill me, but I would protect you.” she said, softly.
The Banshee’s hand actually shook. While colors had been something her undead eyes could no longer see, she saw that red, bright and clear. The sounds of the battle outside were growing more heated, but even the bellow of the Frost Wyrm was muted in her ears. When she looked into Setsuna’s eyes she saw their color as well. She tried to twist her arm out of Setsuna’s grasp, but no longer had the heart to.
“I hate you,” she hissed, and it was a lie.
Setsuna’s hair fluttered in the wind, green whipping to and fro. Blood dripping down her stomach, pooling at her feet, matched her eyes. Her look was not one of anger. Or hatred. In fact, Setsuna was sad, but she knew that it was now, or never. Her life spilled at her own feet. “You do not.” she countered as she slammed the butt of the staff into the ground. ”Time stop” she whispered, power flowing through her words. Time stilled around them, the sounds of battle stopping completely. Nothing moved outside of the bubble of time that surrounded them. “Be reborn, elsewhere, away from here. Away from pain and memories.” she said quietly as the mists surrounded them, Setsuna manipulated time, another taboo she knew would end poorly for her and she used everything she had to send Sylvanas back, to a time and place where nothing bad happened to her. The future lay fresh and new and open. When time restarted the pair were gone. Sylvanas to her new future, Setsuna to be reborn at the Gates of Time, unable to return for now. Time was, after all, a fickle mistress. Who knew what the future held.
