Sylvanas trudged up the steps to Setsuna’s house. She was feeling more morose than usual. Her hunt for a cure wasn’t going very well. In fact she was certain she was sliding down into darkness at a quicker and quicker pace.
She wasn’t sure that flower arranging was helping any more. She needed people help, but if Setsuna knew what she’d been up to she might lose her friend forever…
Setsuna opened the door and smiled. “Come on in, it’s a nice day but let’s not let the air in too much.” she stepped back to allow Sylvanas in, closing the door lightly behind her.
“How have you been, my dear?” she asked, genuinely curious.
“The same. Angry. When I don’t feel angry I feel…” Confused, sad, tired. She folded her arms dejectedly. A rare example of weakness in front of another.
She slipped quietly to the back sun porch, it was screened but the air blew softly in, the seats were comfy and there was tea on the table. “What do you feel, Sylvanas?” she asked, head tilted as she gestured to the girl.
"Everything. Sadness, despair, tired. Weak. I feel weak and I hate it." Setsuna made Sylvanas feel weak but she probably didn't understand entirely how much.
Setsuna carefully poured them tea. “You’re not weak by any stretch, Sylvanas. I’m sorry you are tired, and sad, and filled with despair. Is there anything I can do to help that?” she questioned, honestly.
She gave Setsuna a pointed look, but didn’t respond. Instead she took her cup and sipped at the tea. She could barely taste it. “I feel like I’m losing control.”
“How can I help you regain control?” she asked, ignoring the pointed look and canting her head sideways. She sipped her own tea, elegant and careful in her motions. “Please, tell me.”
“It’s something you cannot give,” she pointed out. “And I know not if it would even make a difference.” Her hand holding the tea was shaking, and it sloshed around in the cup. “I don’t know what I am anymore.”
“I am sorry, then, that I cannot help.” she said softly, lifting maroon eyes up to her friend. “Know I am here for you no matter what, though. I am your friend.” she tilted her head. “You are Sylvanas, you are my friend, whatever else is secondary.”
“Even if I do something terrible?” She held up a hand. “Not that I would. But even then?” She regarded Setsuna for a long moment, warring over something in her head, then she set the tea down and leaned over the table, kissing Setsuna. Not the terrible thing she meant, but if she was going down the path she meant to, she wanted to know what this felt like just once.
“Even if you do something terrible.” she was in the middle of saying when she was caught off guard by the kiss. Setsuna, by nature, was not attracted to women but she didn’t panic either. She gave a little smile against Sylvanas’ lips, tilting her head a bit. She didn’t give back, too much, just a little bit, to show she wasn’t mad about it. Setsuna was attuned to people, after all, but she was worried right now. What was going on with her friend?
Sylvanas peered into her eyes, her own a bloody red, then she pulled back. “Thank you for the tea. Thank you for everything.” She only wished it had been enough, but the darkness was swallowing her up.
