...I’m not interrupting anything, am I?
Who: R and Gwen Stacy
When: Early February
Where: R’s Place
What: Sandwich Delivery
Rating/Warning: Low/None
Status: Complete
Gwen worried about her friend Roger. He was a zombie, after all, and if she couldn’t worry about a zombie, then who could she worry about? Not to mention that the girl from his Dreams was around. Gwen liked Julie, actually. Very much. She thought they’d be adorable together, and then they could double date with her and Michael! What did zombies do on dates, anyway?
She headed over to his place with a couple of big sandwiches from her favorite deli, and knocked on the front door. Things with Michael were actually a little tense, after their conversation about the flirting. She really didn’t want to mess things up. She was really falling for him.
Her thoughts were on that when the door was opened.
Roger hadn’t been expecting anyone. As such, when he heard the door, he blinked it at for a few minutes, trying to remember if maybe he was. He shambled over and peered through the peephole. Just Gwen. That was good. It was nice, actually, Roger was glad to have a friend like her. He opened the door with a bit of a smile and shuffled out of the way.
“Nice to … See you.”
Gwen liked to pop in on him when he wasn’t expecting it. She figured she was rarely interrupting anything. Except now that Julie was around, maybe there was a chance that she might be over. Gwen could only hope. She broke into a bright smile, then reached forward to wrap one arm around him in a very quick but very tight hug.
“Good to see you, too, Rog.” And then she slipped past him into his place. “...I’m not interrupting anything, am I?” She half hoped she was.
He tilted his head a bit. Interrupting? It took him a moment to work out what she meant, and he blinked, then shook his head. “No. No … Interruption.” Roger shrugged. Gwen was sort of like a mother hen at times, and he appreciated more than he might admit.
“Okay.” Gwen moved into the kitchen and grabbed a couple of plates for their sandwiches. Even though he was just as zombie-like as ever, they could still sit at the table and eat like human beings, right? “So… I hung out with Julie,” she called out to him, digging through cupboards and pouring sodas into cups.
Well. That perked his interest. He rambled into after Gwen and sat at the table dutifully, and watched her with unblinking eyes. “You … Did?” It was very important that Gwen liked Julie, seeing as Gwen was a good friend, and he trusted her judgment. Even though he knew from his dreams that Julie was a good person. “Do … You like her?”
Gwen nodded. She put the sandwiches on plates and poured the soda, then brought the meal to the table. "She's great. Really." As she sat down across from him, she was smiling. "I can see why your zombie self falls for her."
Roger grins a bit. It does seem a bit like a weird, twisted version of Romeo and Juliet. But he was glad Gwen liked her. “She is great,” he agreed. Even better in person, really.
“So. How do you proceed from here?” Gwen asked, then tore into her sandwich. Roger wasn’t Michael. She wasn’t trying to impress him with dainty eating and witty comebacks. They were friends, and that’s all they were--so Gwen was comfortable around him. Comfortable enough to eat when she was hungry and not worry about how it looked. “What’s your next step?”
He shrugged. He had no idea how to proceed with girls very well when he was a normal guy, let alone in this state, and Julie was a bit beyond just an average girl. For all he knew, in the waking world they might not even be compatible, but he was going to try at least.
“Dunno,” Roger answered, starting to eat his own sandwich. “Hadn’t thought about it.”
Gwen wiped her mouth with a napkin. Quite considerate, taking into account the amount of mayo and mustard on her sandwich that was sticking to the corners of her lips. “What about asking her out… for a double? I could drag Michael along. Then it’s a little less intimidating?” she offered, then took another enormous bite.
“Uh. Not … Soon.” Roger shifted. The thought of even just having dates that included staying in wigged him out. The last thing he wanted was to shuffle around in public with Gwen and Michael and Julie. People would think he was weird, or just terminal, and, honestly, he didn’t want to deal with it. “Maybe. Someday.”
As if she could tell what was going on in his head, Gwen backpedaled. “We don’t have to go out. We could stay in. Actually, considering… circumstances… we should stay in. Maybe you and Julie and Michael and John… and maybe his new girl--Rose?--can all come over to my place for video games or a movie or something. Well, John lives there, but the rest of you.”
He shook his head. That was getting to be way too many people, most of him he didn’t actually really know, and that was uncomfortable. “Thanks … But. No thanks,” he said.
“Well, just let me know what I can do.” Gwen said. She wanted to help push Julie and Roger together. If they were in love in the Dreams, maybe they could be here, too. And he’d said once that her love … fixed him? Or something? Gwen was under that impression, anyway. She wanted him Fixed.
“I will.” He gave her a bit of a smile. He really was flattered by how much she wanted to help, but, honestly, he was pretty sure there wasn’t any real way this was going to go away. He woke up like it, then he woke up normal, then he woke up like a zombie again. He was fairly certain he’d just have to bide his time.
