Who: Jane and Jessie
What: Georgie needs her shots
Where: Jessie’s surgery
When: Feb
Rating / warning: PG/ none
Status: Complete

Jane smiled at the receptionist and thanked her after giving her name and being told to sit and wait. She moved over to the seats along the edge of the room, as far away from the highly excitable bulldog who wanted nothing else in the world than to be allowed to play with Georgie in her pet carrier. “It’s all right, Georgie,” Jane said to the cat softly, swinging the carrier around so the door was facing underneath the seats and the kitten couldn’t see out and potentially get more upset. She looked up at the dog’s owner and gave her a little smile and pulled her phone out while she waited to be called.

Jessie had been fairly busy at the surgery all day and she loved it, in fact she thrived on being busy and helping so many pets and their owners. It was why she had become a veterinarian after all. Saying goodbye to the sweet little girl and her guinea pig she stepped out from the examination room and called the next people in, “Jane and Georgie Foster?” she smiled.

Jane looked up at the sound of her name. She smiled at the lady who called her in and slid her phone into her jacket pocket as she stood up, picking up the cat carrier and following the vet into the consultation room. She lifted the carrier up and placed it on the examination table, flicking the catches on the door open and reaching in to bring out her little Georgie for the vet to look at her. “Hi, this is Georgie,” she introduced, putting the kitten down gently after kissing it on the head.

Jessie smiled at the woman as she brought the kitten in and placed her on the table. “Hello Georgie, it’s good to meet you” she said stroking the kitten gently. “So last set of shots today is that right?” Jessie asked Jane, knowing it was but it was always nice to involve the owners.

“Yep, that’s right,” Jane smiled, watching the kitten bump it’s little head against the vet’s hand before remembering something. “Oh, just a sec,” she turned to her bag and started sifting through it, pulling out the vaccination record and holding it out to the vet with a smile. “I nearly forgot last time,” she shrugged. “I swear I need to have a walking to-do list walking beside me,” she joked.

“Oh great” Jessie said taking the card, “Now that would be handy, but don’t worry you aren’t the only one who forgets things. That’s why we hold hard copies as well as computer records”

"Cool," Jane smiled at her. "It's been a long time since I've had an animal to take care of," she said as she tickled the kitten under the chin.

“Well you seem like you’re a natural, this kitten is a very happy one” Jessie told her, “Just make sure the kittie treats aren’t overused especially if you are going to be keeping her as a house cat” It was something she told all her new pet owners, no matter the species. Any animal, when overfed, could become too fat and for a lot that had a negative impact on their health.

"I used to help my aunt and uncle run their farm," Jane told her. "But chickens and sheep are very different from cats," she laughed. "I think Georgie and I are getting on ok, once I managed to convince people to stop giving her milk."

"Ah so you have some experience then, not a complete newcomer" she smiled, "well done on that sometimes people are far too zealous when it comes to 'helping' when you get a new pet"

"Yeah, it's amazing how many people want to give cats cream and milk," Jane remarked. "Not a complete newcomer no, but there's definitely a lot less work involved," she laughed. "She pretty much takes care of herself."

"Sadly the movies and things promote that kind of thing" Jessie sighed, "But cats are definitely less work than some other pets. They can be pretty independent and stubborn too"

"Independant isn't the half of it," Jane laughed. "The amount of times I've told her not to sleep on my clean washing pile to come home and find her sleeping on it regardless," she smiled. "Do you have any pets yourself?"

Jessie laughed, "But that's probably because you simply haven't realised you're her slave yet" she teased, "I have two ferrets called Bonnie and Clyde, a chinchilla called Calamity, and a gecko called Sundance"

“Sounds like you need a Butch for your Sundance,” Jane joked.

"I'd love one" she grinned, "but Sundance can be a little picky and by that I mean he's very awkward"

“You’ve tried before then?” Jane asked.

"Yeah, not found the perfect partner for him yet"

“I’m sure you will,” Jane smiled at her. “So what do you think of Georgie? She in good shape?”

"I'm very determined at least" she returned the grin, "I think Georgie is a very lucky kittie in perfect health"

“Great! Thank you!” Jane grinned proudly, rubbing Georgie’s head affectionately. “Hear that, Georgie? We impressed the vet,” she spoke to the animal, pressing a kiss to the kitten’s head. “So when should I book her next appointment for then?” she asked the vet.

Jessie watched Jane with the kitten and smiled to herself, the girl was obviously a good pet owner. "I'd say come back a couple of weeks after she's been outside, we'll give her just a quick check then she'll be all set"

“Fantastic, thank you very much,” Jane smiled and held out her hand to shake the vet’s. “I’m sorry, I didn’t catch your name before.”

"Of course. Thank you for being such a caring owner" she said shaking her hand, "I'm Jessie"

“Nice to meet you Jessie.”

"You too Jane" she smiled at the client who was on her way to becoming a friend.
