Who: Jubilee, Laura and Cass
What: Playing with their Wii
When: A week or two ago
Status: complete
Rating: PG-13 for language
Jubilee had set up the tv. Everything was perfect. Big tv, huge speaker, PS4 and PS3 all hooked up and ready to go. She’d even bought a Wii U.
Operation HANG OUT WITH HER HOMIES was about to commence. She’d sent Cass and Laura out to get some snacks and booze and was reclining on the couch sipping from a blood bag while she waited, flipping through channels at lightning speed.
Over the last couple of weeks, Cass had started to feel a little better about the entire situation with Mystique. She still felt violated and like she couldn’t trust anyone except those she already knew, but she wasn’t quite so scared to leave the condo anymore. Not since she’d hung out with Stephanie, which had been the first time she’d really left the condo since everything had happened. It had made it easier to go out with Laura when Logan wasn’t quite himself and even easier to go out with Laura now to get things for their girl’s night in with Jubilee. “Anything else we should pick up?” Cass asked as they got back into the car after leaving the grocery store.
It was just good to see Cass out and enjoying herself. Laura had a crazy dream life that was often hard for her to come to terms with or even process, but if her friends were doing okay, then so was she.
She rifled through the various plastic bags of snack foods, and shook her head, "We have everything I can think of. I can't wait to get back and kick Jubilee's butt at... something."
Video games weren't really a thing Laura had become familiar with until she'd moved in with them.
Meanwhile, Jubilee had stopped on some sort of lifetime movie that had her on the edge of her seat. Shut up. It was suspenseful! “Oh man that guy is totes gay, she needs to hook up with that other guy…”
“Who’s gay?” Cass asked as she pushed the door open, carrying a few of the bags of goodies and alcohol inside, “Are you watching another Lifetime movie?” Instead of bringing the bags into the kitchen, Cass just brought them into the living room, leaving the door open for Laura and her own bags. She figured that bringing the bags into the living room meant that they wouldn’t have to go far to get anything that they wanted.
It was a fantastic plan, and Laura followed suit, after hip-bumping the door shut behind her and locking it with a swift gesture. The alcohol was already cold for the most part, so they didn't even need glasses or ice.
She kicked her shoes off and plopped onto the couch, pulling out a bag of pixie stix, "You really should stop watching Lifetime. Here, I brought you your favorite."
“The dude in this movie. He’s totes got a thing for her brother but she’s not noticing it and I mean how can you not notice it they were making out in her closet!” Jubilee pointed at the tv, then giggled. “Heh. Closet. YES! PIXIE STIX!” She couldn’t quite remember what they tasted like any more, but they were still a good memory and something she could eat that didn’t make her sick. She liked the motion and habit.
Cass removed her own shoes and sat down on Jubilee’s other side, “So, the girl likes the gay guy that her brother was making out with? What exactly are you watching?” She reached into one of the bags for a packet of Double Stuffed Oreos and pulled back the seal then bit into one. “And I agree with Laura. Lifetime movies will rot your brain.”
"They have too many happily ever afters for me. Life isn't ever that simple in the end," Laura remarked, while rifling through the bags. She found a bag of Cheetos and opened them up, "And honestly, if they were making out in her closet she really should have caught that. She seems a little oblivious to me."
She snorted a bit and popped a Cheeto in her mouth. The scene had shifted to the men getting together in some secret rendezvous, and she just shook her head, "Her brother should at least want to stop this to spare her feelings..."
“Maybe she’s gonna end up with his sister. That’d be hot.” Jubilee popped a pixie stick and then changed the input over to the Wii U. “Who’s up for some plowing with plumbers!!?”
“Your brain would go there,” Cass said, smirking as she ate another oreo. She briefly thought about getting up to get some milk to go with her oreos, but in the end she stayed where she was, choosing to be lazy and relax after going around and getting the snacks for the night, “I think that depends on what kind of plowing you’re referring to.” She was not at all surprised by the way Jubilee phrased things anymore.
It wasn't really a shock to Laura, either, who only really rolled her eyes at the comment as a form of teasing. She was smirking as she did it, and popped another cheeto in her mouth as she went looking for the wiimotes they'd need, "Oh baby, oh baby, let's plow things. Plumbers rock my world."
Her voice was a little deadpan, but she laughed as she handed Cass a wii-mote, too, "You can have the one with the crystals stuck on it." It was a generous gesture. Or maybe Laura was hoping to distract her opponent with shinies.
“Goo goosh goosh do,” Jubilee said in a terrible imitation of the mario entering a pipe sound. She picked up a hot pink wiimote and grinned at Laura. She loved when Laura joked like that. “Wee hee!” And Mario needed his laugh too.
Cass rolled her eyes playfully, smirking as she took the wiimote from Laura. The smirk wasn’t quite what it would have been a few months ago when Jubilee or Laura or anyone really, made jokes about sex, because ever since she’d been taken advantage of by Raven, sex references made her uncomfortable in a very different way than it had before when she’d mostly flush, but had been able to at least play along.
Laura didn't know Cass well enough to read the body language that might have told her jokes like that made her friend uncomfortable. But she thought lingering on sex jokes was just immature, anyway, so she switched the subject to something else, "You guys are going down. I mean... Yay, teamwork! But the crown is mine."
“DIBS ON TOAD,” Jubilee called out, picking her character. She liked this version of Mario already, it was adorable.
“You talk a big game there, Laura.” Cass said, picking her character next and waiting for the other girl to pick her own. Cass might have been doing better than she had at the beginning of January and that was all thanks to her friends, but she knew that she still had a long way to go and had considered looking into talking to someone, but how was she supposed to explain this situation to someone else? She was just thankful for her friends right now.
"Let's hope I can follow through on it," Laura joked, while selecting her character. Princess Peach was the only one she ever chose, mainly because she was happy to get a chance to play as the damsel instead of having to rescue her.
She licked some cheeto foo off of her finger, and opened up her beer, "Of course the beer might hurt my chances."
After a quick pause she added, "... probably not."
“Cass is screwed,” Jubilee said, while she mainlined some pixie sticks. “God I wish I could taste this better. It’s kinda like eating it through sawdust, gotta eat a lot to get a little an’ then it makes me throw up later but it’s worth it.”
“You guys are so mean.” Cass reached over to steal one of Jubilee’s pixie stix and stuck her tongue out at her friend, “Your vampy powers aren’t going to help you with the game. It’s not like you’re actually in there kicking our butts.”
"That's right, you can't just mezz the video game, you have to actually have skills like me and Cass do," Laura teased. She took a big gulp of her beer and then patted Jubilee's shoulder comfortingly. Right before stealing a pixi stick for herself, "We'll just have to steal some of them and eat them ourselves so that you don't pig out on them and then get sick. Because we care about you."
And because sugar highs were fun.
Jubilee just grinned. “My reflexes are faster, yo! And I learned how not to break the controller!” Which had happened about four times before she could control her strength. She stuck her tongue out at Laura and threw another pixie stick at her.
"Well, we'll see if that actually helps you or not." Cass smirked and waited for the game to start. She was genuinely curious if Jubilee's reflexes would actually help her or if she was just full of hot air. Either way, Cass had fun, because she was with her friends and could let her guard down and didn't have anything to worry about except getting her butt wooped.
The three girls all had pretty good reflexes and various levels of training, and Laura thought that playing video games against each other was going to be fun and interesting. Also, probably a little competitive. Laura didn't mind that. Eating sweets and junk food, trash talking her friends, cheering each other on, and all of that? That was exactly the kind of night she needed.
And if it was up to her, she'd win at least ONE match. Of something.
Jubilee proved to be very good, but she wasn’t perfect, and when she got cocky her score lowered. The game meant that they had to work together and sometimes that led to falling off the ledges. But that didn’t matter, Jubilee had fun and more importantly she felt human again.
“I love you guys.”
