Now that she had her freedom--or, well, a lot more than she’d had before, anyway--Anna was enjoying it. After church she went for a walk. Yes, a walk. All by herself. Down the streets not too far from the church. And she had her cell phone so she could call for a ride home when she was ready. She wasn’t planning on being ready anytime soon. There were all sorts of things to look at. The shops were still somewhat decorated for Christmas, even though it was Epiphany, though a lot of them were starting to don pink, red and silver for Valentine’s Day. Anna had to stop and look into nearly every window to take it all in.
Justin had just left another meeting with the owner of the gallery where the art show was going to be, having handed over a list and photographs of the pieces he was going to be including in the show and now he decided to walk a bit before heading back home. Aside from the art show he’d also been looking into a few projects at the studio that were currently in pre-production to see if anyone of them were looking for storyboard artists or artists in general so he wanted to take some time to relax a little.
As he walked down the street, glancing at the various stores, he too noticed that a lot of them already had Valentine’s decorations in the windows and it occurred to him that this year he was going to be able to actually celebrate the holiday. He hadn’t actually had a boyfriend in awhile, so he’d almost forgotten that Valentine’s Day was coming up. Stopping to look in one window, he pondered over what he could do for his boyfriend for Valentine’s Day.
It was very much like Anna to get excited, twirl, and dance her way down the street thinking about how wonderful it would be to have a boyfriend for Valentine’s Day. And now that she was old enough, with more freedoms, she could! She gave a little skip in her step, having lost sight of the sidewalk, and went stumbling straight into someone who was standing there. He must have been window shopping. Anna’s arms lifted to grab onto whatever she could hold, trying to keep herself upright. She gave a gentle “oof!” as she flailed.
Justin didn’t see the girl until it was too late, but somehow he managed to keep her from falling, reaching out for her as she grabbed his arm, “You okay?” It wasn’t often that Justin had girls falling into him, but he smiled at her, wanting her to know that he wasn’t mad like some other people might be if someone fell into them.
Anna gave a little nod, clinging to him for a moment as she righted herself. “Gosh, I’m so sorry! I’m normally not so--” Oh, who was she kidding? She was absolutely normally so clumsy. She broke into a shy smile, and then let go of him. “Thank you. I’ve had enough tumbles for one week.” She said, smiling. “I didn’t… hurt you, did I?”
"It's not a problem. Better you fall into me then fall on the ground, right?" Justin have the girl a bright smile as he released her then looked himself over, "Nope, I seem to be fine. And don't worry, I can be pretty clumsy sometimes too."
“Oh, I spend my fair share of time on the ground after a stumble,” Anna admitted, still rather pink. She brushed her hands off on her jeans. A little chuckle escaped her. “Hey, at least I’m not the only one?”
Justin was still smiling and nodded, “I’m not as clumsy as I used to be, but I’ve had some major spills in the past.” Surfing had probably helped him with his balance, which was a good thing, because being clumsy on a surfboard would probably result in drowning and that would be a very bad thing, “So, where were you going in such a hurry?” Justin was naturally curious and he couldn’t help but ask.
“I wasn’t really in a hurry,” Anna explained, very sheepishly. She was still bright pink around her cheeks, which was a great contrast to the red hair on top of her head. She shrugged her shoulders. “I just had a song in my head. I was … dancing,” she admitted, rather embarrassed. “And I wasn’t watching where I was going. I’m really sorry about that.”
“Oh, that’s totally fine. I can understand that. Sometimes I have so much going on in my head that I’m not really paying attention either,” Justin explained, wanting to assure the girl that there had been no harm done.
“Good.” Anna gave him a bright smile, unable to stop herself from enjoying those eyes for a moment. They really were fantastic eyes. “So um… anyway, I should probably… you know… get moving on.” She said, awkwardly, and motioned with one hand down the street.
“Right. Don’t let me keep you, but be careful.” Justin smiled, “Not everyone is as understanding as me. Don’t want to get yelled at by some angry old lady.” Somehow Justin didn’t think that would phase this girl any though. She seemed to have a permanently cheery disposition similar to his own.
Anna flushed deeply. “Thanks. I’ll do my best.” She said, and gave him a nod. “Have a good day. I hope I haven’t ruined it for you.” She added, sincerely, then turned to head back down the block.
