Justin smiled as they danced. He shut out everyone else around him except for Brian was the older man spun him around the dance floor. He still couldn’t quite believe he’d shown up and even if he was there only for this one dance, this would be a night Justin would never forget. As the song ended, Brian took Justin’s hand and led him off the dance floor and out of the building to the garage, the both of them smiling and laughing as they went, Justin singing bits of the song they had just danced to.
“It was the best night of my life,” Justin said as Brian draped the silk scarf around his neck and backed him up against the jeep, looking at him in a way that Justin had never seen before, which only made him smiled even more.
“It was...ridiculously romantic.” Brian said then paused for what felt like forever before he finally kissed him again. After another moment, Brian wrapped the scarf ends around his hand, turning them again so that he was next to the jeep and Justin was free to go back. They both said later, Justin smiling wider than he could ever remember and with the scarf still around his neck, he started walking back to his prom.
The next thing Justin knew, he heard Brian yelling his name, but when he turned all he saw was Chris Hobbs and a baseball bat coming at his head.
Justin sat up, heart slamming against his chest, breathing coming in labored gasped as his eyes tried to adjust to the darkness around him. The darkness that had engulfed him as the bat slammed into his right temple. Reaching towards the bedside table, he turned on the lamp just as a sharp pain stabbed through his head where he’d been hit in the dream. Bringing his hand up to the side of his head, he felt it sticky with blood, blue eyes widening as he looked at his fingers.
“Billy!” He began to reach for his boyfriend, but stopped before he touched his shoulder, not wanting to get blood on him. “Billy, wake up!”
Billy woke abruptly and was confused about what had woken him until he heard his name being said and he looked around, “Oh my god, Justin” Billy’s hand came up to gently brush through his boyfriend’s hair, “What happened?”
Justin’s heartbeat had begun to slow, but he was still confused about how an injury he’d sustained in his dream could happen in the waking world, “I was attacked, in my dreams. After my prom. Chris Hobbs….” Justin stared at his hand, which was still covered in blood then brought it up to his temple, wincing slightly as he tried to find a wound. If there was blood then there had a to be wound, “Do you see anything?” If it was as bad as in the dream, bad enough to knock him out, then wouldn’t he be unconscious now?
“That bastard” Billy said vehemently, hating the person from his boyfriend’s dreams who thought he could hurt him. He grabbed some tissues from the bedside table and gently pressed them against Justin’s head, removing some of the blood so he could see. The wound looked raw and painful and Billy’s hand itched, he lay it softly over Justin’s head and a soft light glowed from it.
Justin winced as Billy tried to clean some of the blood away then his eyes widened slightly as he caught the light out of the corner of his eye, “What’d you do?” He knew that Billy dreamt about having mutant powers, but didn’t know to what extent he had them.
"I umm healed you" Billy admitted, "I've not done it before but seeing you hurting it just came to me, the power was just there" he said kissing Justin's cheek softly, "Are you okay?"
“That’s amazing.” Justin brought his hand up to the side of his head, feeling nothing but drying blood and skin that was slightly tender. “I’m okay. I think.” So far there didn’t seem to be any lasting damage except for a slight headache, “I should probably get cleaned up.” He didn’t even have to look in the mirror to know that he probably looked a mess.
Billy scooted off the bed and held his hand out to Justin, "I'll help" he said, not wanting to let Justin out of his sight for a while. He was still worried and needed to take care of his boyfriend.
Justin nodded and took Billy’s hand, letting him lead him into the bathroom. After turning the light on, Justin turned to look at his reflection in the mirror and gasped. Despite Billy cleaning up some of the blood, there was still an awful lot in his hair, which was dark against the light blond of his hair, and down the side of his face, which meant there was probably blood on his pillow. “This is insane. I’ve heard of people waking up with injuries and scars from the dreams but...this shouldn’t be possible.”
“I know” Billy said softly, his eyes were full of concern and a sadness that came from knowing that he wasn’t able to protect Justin from this. “This place is crazy, we know that but this is different. It’s dangerous” The amount of blood was worrying and despite using his magic Billy was still going to watch Justin like a hawk to make sure nothing was wrong. He turned on the shower, it would be the easiest way to get rid of the blood.
Not knowing the extent of his injuries in the dreams made Justin worry a little, because an attack like that couldn’t be good. When Billy started the shower, Justin pulled off the t-shirt he’d been wearing as well as his underwear then stepped in, letting the hot water run through his hair for a few moments, watching as the water as his feet ran red as it washed away the blood.
Billy stepped in behind him and slowly carded his fingers through Justin’s hair, getting rid of as much blood as he could. He stepped to the side, cupping Justin’s face so he could use his thumb to remove the blood on his face too. Then he opened the shampoo, slowly working it into his hair, being mindful of where the wound had been. “Maybe we should go to the hospital, get you checked out just in case” he suggested.
While he was sure that this was probably freaking Billy out, Justin was glad that he hadn’t had to go through this alone. He was glad that Billy was there to help him. As Billy washed his hair, Justin thought about that for a few moments; one could never be too careful with a head injury, even if it was one that was dream related, “Yeah, maybe that’s a good idea.”
Billy nodded, “How is your head feeling now?” he asked as he finished washing the last of the shampoo from Justin’s hair and after a final check he switched off the shower. Retrieving towels for them from the bathroom cupboard he wrapped one around Justin and kissed his cheek.
“It’s not really a headache, but it feels like one’s coming on,” It was still a dull pounding, nothing he couldn’t handle, but that didn’t mean that it couldn’t get worse if left untreated. As Billy wrapped the towel around him, Justin secured it and smiled at the kiss to his cheek, “Thanks. I know how freaked out you must be right now.”
“I’m more worried about you right now” Billy told him honestly, “I’ll freak later once we’ve made sure you’re alright” Though honestly he’d probably be stuck in the worrying and looking after phase for a while.
Smiling, Justin gave Billy a kiss on the lips then went back into his room to get dressed, glancing at the bed briefly to see blood on the pillowcase. They’d have to clean that up when they got back, “I’m just lucky that my boyfriend is magical.” He got some clothes out and started getting dressed.
Billy would take care of it later, they didn’t need the reminder of what had happened - neither of them would forget it for a long time he was certain of that. “I’m glad my powers decided to emerge at the right time” he said, pulling his own clothes on too.
What was most strange thing about the whole ordeal was that as the time had gone by while he’d been cleaning himself up, bits and pieces of the dream started to fade from his memory. He knew he’d been bashed, but what exactly had happened before that, he couldn’t remember. “They chose a very good time.” Once he was dressed, he started for the door, “You gonna drive?” He asked, figuring that Billy would want to do it.
They had and Billy would forever be thankful that they did. They obviously knew how much Justin meant to him. That’s what Billy liked to think anyway. He nodded, “Definitely” he said palming his keys from the table before taking Justin’s hand as they headed out to the hospital.
