Loki has greatly enjoy the week away from California. It's been nothing but shameless luxury, but it's been wonderful and relaxing, and he's a bit sad that tomorrow they need to go back. Still, tonight gets to be their last hoorah, as it were, with the New Year's Eve gala that's delightfully twenties themed. But that requires some effort, so Loki had started early, wanting to get the finger waves just right, and when he does wander out of the bathroom he raises his eyebrows at Fandral. "Well, how have they turned out?"
Fandral decides to simply slick his hair back, deciding that Loki's more elaborate hairstyle wouldn't suit him. He's almost reluctant to go back to California, they're having such a nice time here. But needs must, and Fandral simply hopes that the peace they've found here will follow them home.
When Loki comes out of the bathroom, Fandral smiles and gives a low whistle. "You look fantastic, old sport."
“That wasn't what I asked," he replies, looking both amused and immensely pleased all at once. He wanders over to give Fandral a kiss. "You learn a thing or two when you study vaudevillian magic, I suppose."
He returns the kiss with a smile, careful to keep his hands away from Loki's hair. "They look wonderful. I wouldn't have the patience for that, but it certainly paid off."
“I know you wouldn't. Or the dexterity." Loki teases his fingers across Fandral's. "You don't need them to make an impression."
“Well I'd have you do it for me, but I wouldn't be able to sit you still with your fingers in my hair." Fandral nudges his nose against Loki's cheek. "I almost hate to go down to the party. But it'll be a good time."
“It will be a fantastic time." He runs his hands up Fandral's chest, then squeezes the back of his neck before turning to get dressed. "A good way to ring in a new year."
“Did you notice what I'm wearing?" The cufflinks that Loki gave him for Christmas are displayed proudly on his cuffs, though he's wearing a bow tie so he sadly had to leave off the tie pin.
Loki gives Fandral an amused raise of his eyebrow. "Of course I did. I'm very preceptive. I'm very glad you like them." He shrugs on his own jacket, thankful that he's recently begun to do Houdini-esque routines so he has some fantastic suits made in the styles of the time. He ties his tie and glances in the mirror. "Fabulous."
“Yes, you are." Fandral wraps his arms around Loki's waist from behind and kisses his neck with an amused look. "I'm glad you realize it.”
He snorts, swatting a little at Fandral. "Don't be cheeky." Loki turns in Fandral's arms and kisses his chin. "Well, come on. I'm never late to anything. I'm not going to have you spoil my record."
“I'd never dream of it." He links his arm with Loki's and escorts him downstairs to the lavishly decorated ballroom. "This is quite the event."
It is quite stunning. He and Fandral are offered drinks as soon as they step foot inside, and Loki looks a bit pleased about it all. "It really is, isn't it? And there'll be live music, and even a midnight dessert spread. If you think you can afford some cheating," he adds, jokingly, prodding Fandral in the stomach.
It's really very classy, and reminds Fandral of old Hollywood glamour. He laughs at the teasing and steals Loki's hand for a kiss. "I'll hit the gym extra hard when we get back, no worries."
“I feel like even I've gained weight this last week." Loki sips at his drink, brushing his fingers across Fandral's lips briefly. "I can't believe we have to go back tomorrow."
“You're free to join me in the gym." Fandral nibbles at Loki's fingertips. "Let's not think about tomorrow. Let's only think about tonight and what fun we're going to have."
“Not likely," he replies, snorting. He turns to Fandral and gives him a nuzzle. "Yes. I like that plan."
“Will you dance with me tonight, my love?" Loki sips at his champagne and keeps a hand at the small of Loki's back, slightly possessive. There are a lot of people here, and Fandral definitely has the most handsome date on his arm. It wouldn't do to have him stolen away.
Loki won't outwardly say it, but he's very smug about Fandral's possessiveness. He leans quite readily into the other man. "Mm, of course. As if you even have to ask."
“Wonderful. I look forward to it." He presses a kiss to Loki's temple. "I can't stand how amazing you look. We ought to get our picture taken. I know it's a bit cheesy, but it could be fun, don't you think?"
He rolls his eyes fondly. "All right. But only because you're so sweet, I can't seem to say no for once."
“Something to remember tonight by," he points out, kissing him lightly. "We'll do it quickly and then we can dance, I promise."
“You're so sentimental. I don't understand it." But if it makes Fandral happy, then Loki will oblige him. It'll be a way to make up for things that haven't yet happened.
They get their picture taken in front of a themed back drop, and Fandral orders several prints in a few sizes. Two poses: one traditional and one with Fandral kissing Loki, just for the hell of it.
Loki very nearly laughs, and once the photos are done, he actually does, and he hits Fandral playfully on the chest. "There. Don't say I don't ever do anything for you." He gives Fandral a look before going to get another glass of champagne for the both of them.
"I adore you, thank you." He touches their glasses together and steals another kiss. "Will you come dance with me, after we finish these?"
“I know you do." Loki sips his champagne with an amused sort of look, then nods. "I think that sounds divine, actually."
“Do you know any proper twenties dances? I'm not certain I do."
“I'm afraid that's one skill set in which I'm lacking, but I don't think we'll be the odd ones out."
“That is one thing I've not learned how to do, sadly enough. But I think we can wing it." Fandral grins and downs his champagne, setting the empty glass down on a passing tray. "Shall we?"
“Eager." But Loki finishes his champagne, too, then takes Fandral's hand and wanders to the dance floor where many couples are enjoying themselves along with the live music. "I'm not very good at following, I'm afraid."
“Well, then I suppose I can let you lead." He kisses Loki's cheek and falls happily into the same sort of dance everyone else seems to be doing, just pleased to be here with Loki, enjoying themselves.
“Always so kind." It's actually nice. There aren't any worries or cares about weird dreams of general oddities, and Loki really feels like he did long before all that started. He smiles and nudges their noses together. "Thank you for such a wonderful week."
“I've had an amazing time. It's good, to get away, isn't it?" To be away from the OC, be away from the dreams and all of that stress.
“It really is." And yet, despite that, there was a small part of Loki that couldn't wait to get back. Like he missed it, at least a little bit. "And all the better I could enjoy it in such admirable company."
“It's been nothing short of magical, and I'm glad we were able to get away." He pulls Loki close and dips him with a laugh.
Loki lets out a bit of a surprised sound, but laughs, too, then hits him in the chest once they're standing again. "Stop that," he said, not meaning it all.
“You're having fun. It's good to see you having fun. See you laughing like this."
“Astonishingly, you bring out the best in me. Even if that doesn't always seem to be the case."
“And you bring out wonderful things in me." Fandral wraps his arm around Loki's waist and dances close to him, swaying a little instead of bothering with actual dancing.
Loki rolls his eyes, but there's no malice in the action. "Do you know what I find astonishing about you, Fandral? And I mean this as seriously as I can mean anything," he adds, in case Fandral thinks he's teasing or being sarcastic. "You're always so ... Positive. You never let anything spoil your mood for too long. I don't know how you do it."
He smiles, flattered, and kisses Loki gently. nuzzling his cheek. "I suppose I'm just unfailingly optimistic. Thank you, that means a lot to hear you say."
“It balances my cynicism," he replies dryly. But he gladly returns the kiss, looking pleased.
By and by, midnight arrives and Fandral ushers Loki out onto the balcony to watch the fireworks, wrapping his arms around him and embracing him from behind, chin resting on his shoulder. "Happy New Year, my love."
The night does pass quickly, almost too quickly maybe, but it's lovely. The food, the drink, the music. It wasn't a let down by any means. Loki leans back against Fandral, turning his head to kiss Fandral's cheek. "Hopefully this one will be much better than last."
