Who: Annie and Mitchell
What: Making dinner and talking about Herrick.
Where: Their place
When: This past weekend
Rating: G
Status: Complete

The Christmas party had been a success. Their friends had come over and everyone had had a good time. Annie was glad for it. It felt like an actual home. The fact that she was living with Mitchell. It was their home, and she loved it. The dreams were getting worse though. Not that they were more frequent exactly, but the content was going towards some kind of bad end. She just knew that it was going to be a bad ending. If only she could see the end before it happened. Maybe she could have prepared herself. As it was, she would have to take her time and deal with them as they came.

Heading towards the bedroom, she heard a noise and peaked her head in. “Hey. I was just going to make dinner. Do you want dinner?”

Mitchell was glad that the holidays had gone well for him, Annie and their friends and for a little while he had been able to take his mind off of the dreams. His had also been getting bad, but that only made since since they had the same ones, didn’t it? If he’d thought that being betrayed by Lucy and almost losing Annie, George and Nina had been bad, now Herrick was back. Herrick, who George had torn apart was back! Mitchell still didn’t understand how it had happened, but Nina had called him about the older vampire being admitted to the hospital.

Since waking up from that particular dream, Mitchell had spent a good portion of the day in the bedroom, trying to make heads or tales out of the dreams. When Annie came up, he’d just punched the wall in frustration; luckily he hadn’t broken it. All he could think of now was that if Herrick could come back in the dreams, what was stopping the real Herrick from showing up and becoming a vampire and terrorizing them? At the sound of Annie’s voice, he looked up and ran a hand through his curly, black hair, “Um...yeah. Sure. What’s for dinner?”

Huh. That was definitely strange. There had definitely been a noise but she couldn’t really figure out what it had been. Weird. “I was going to make tacos. Are you okay? Did you drop something or something? Because I thought I heard a bang or whatever.” He didn’t look like he was in pain, so she assumed that he hadn’t hurt himself. Of course Annie could always be around about it. She did look a bit worried, though more because she thought he might have broken something.

“Unless you don’t want tacos and then maybe we could order pizza?” she shrugged a little.

“Tacos sound fine,” He said, composing himself before he approached Annie. He had to tell her about the dream about Herrick, because he didn’t think that she’d dreamt it yet otherwise she probably would have said something. Herrick wasn’t something you stayed quiet about. The same could have been said about the Box Car 20 and he fully planned on telling her about that, but right now it was Herrick that she needed to know about, “I’ll help you.”

No she hadn’t quite dreamed about him, though she would later tonight. It was odd when they weren’t in sync. “All right.” She smiled. And yeah she noticed that he hadn’t said that he was okay, or whether he heard a bang, but she figured he’d talk to her when he was ready. Hey as long as he wasn’t punching her, she didn’t care so much. She headed down to the kitchen and flipped on the lights before getting out all of the ingredients. “Chicken or beef? Or something else?”

Mitchell followed Annie downstairs and into the kitchen, contemplating how to bring up his dream as she asked him about dinner stuff, “Lets do chicken.” He helped her get out the ingredients as well as a pan and placed it on the stove, “Have you had any dreams lately?” It seemed like the easiest way to bring up the topic; then again, saying ‘I dreamt that Herrick came back from the dead.’ would have been easy as well.

With a small smile, she went to get the chicken out of the fridge. It had been taken out of the freezer and just waiting for someone to do something with it. She hadn’t had chicken tacos in forever it seems. “Um.. well there’s some about you and I trying to figure out how to have sex when I’m a ghost and can’t really touch anything. That was an amusing and heartbreaking and frustrating one.” She had to think about it for a moment. “I told you about the zombie.. you’ve had that one, right? Um.. I think that’s about it.”

Right. that dream. He’d hated the fact that Annie couldn’t turn him on; no, that he couldn’t let himself get turned on, because he’d always associated sex with blood during his time as a vampire, but as heartbreaking as that one had been, he couldn’t help but chuckle a little at the thought of Annie attempting to talk dirty, “Yeah, I’ve had both of those.” He got out a cutting board and took the chicken from Annie after retrieving a knife as well, “I should warn you that the next dream probably isn’t going to be good.” He glanced over at her, “Herrick comes back.” Even though it was only a dream, he didn’t believe that the older vampire had no idea who he was.

Oh god that part had been a total disaster, hadn’t it? She had tried so hard, and it had all been really awful. It wasn’t like she could really get turned on herself. She had been dead. Completely dead. And she didn’t feel anything. Annie hadn’t brought it up because it was kind of ridiculous and she was embarrassed by it. Even if that wasn’t really her. Or maybe it was. “Herrick comes back? How the hell does that happen? Because I was there when George completely ripped him a new one. Literally.”

“I don’t know,” Mitchell said as he started cutting up the chicken into strips as he shook his head, “Somehow he wound up at the psych ward at the hospital, not knowing who he was and Nina brought him to the house. I wanted to stake him, but bloody George wouldn’t let me because of the baby,” It was then that Mitchell wondered if Nina had dreamt up to that point yet. If she knew her and George were going to have a baby in the dreams. “He stayed up in the attic.” He left out the part where Mitchell wanted to find out how Herrick had come back, because of the prophecy Lia had given him.

Annie looked a little perplexed. “Nina brought him into the house??” What the hell was she thinking? Ah right. The baby. She frowned slightly. “I get that, I guess. But it’s just.. it’s Herrick. You should have just staked him. There should be no way he was back. Was .. I mean is he still a vampire? Up in the attic like that crazy wife in Rebecca.” Snorting, she shook her head in disbelief. That was completely ridiculous. “I feel bad for Nina though. I mean.. I was lucky. I found you. We’re together. George isn’t around and now there’s a baby and she has to go through all of that.. alone? Having this dreams and then.. I don’t know, I just feel bad.”

“I guess she was thinking she couldn’t leave him at the hospital. When I tried to stake him, you and Nina pulled me off him. After that the doorbell rang. That’s when I woke up,” Not knowing what happened next was one thing that was making Mitchell agitated. “I wish George would show up. Nina is convinced he’s not real, but if the three of us are then he’s got to be real too.” He couldn’t help but wonder if Nina was ever jealous of his and Annie’s relationship because George wasn’t there.

Oh. Hm. That was odd. She wondered why her dream self didn’t want Mitchell to stake him. “Right, yeah then he’d just go nuts and kill a bunch of people. Better to have him at home and kill a bunch of people.” She rolled her eyes. Not that she was degrading Nina’s judgment or anything. Maybe she would have done the same thing if it had been her in that situation. “He has to be real. He just.. probably lives in actual England or something. Sigh. I really wish we could just find him. But then we’d sound like crazy people.”

Mitchell laughed, “As long as the real Herrick doesn’t come here and join Valarnet, we’ll be alright.” He put the chicken in the pan and added some seasonings. “If he is real, like I figure he is then he needs to get his butt out here. And speaking of England, are you still interested in taking a trip out there?” Since becoming a vampire, Mitchell had put his attempt at a come back on the hold, considering he had no reflection now, it’d be hard to do a lot of things music related. Even doing shows at the coffee shop would be difficult, because he’d have to have a no cameras rule or something.” That was one thing he would miss about being human; pictures. He and Annie had taken some pictures before he’d changed, which he was glad for now and the picture he’d received before Christmas had been of him, Annie, George and Nina, which had made him happy even if he didn’t know how exactly it had been possible.

“Don’t even say that. If you jinx us, I will smack you.” Annie smirked a bit, and then went to chop up the rest of the stuff for the tacos. Lettuce. Tomatoes. Things like that. Then she would get out the cheese and started to grate it. “I definitely think we should go. To look for him and other things.” If they found George, what would they do? It was hard to say. She wouldn’t know unless it was happening it to her. She’d gotten the same picture as him. It was really nice to have something tangible with George in it. All four of them, so happy and a family. As it should be. Before it all went to shit. “If you want to. Maybe in the spring? When it’s a bit warmer there?”

Mitchell chuckled as he moved the chicken around in the pan, “If I jinx us then I give you full permission to smack me.” Of course he hoped that he wouldn’t jinx them, because if Herrick showed up, it could only mean bad things. Then again, he hoped the other man would continue to honor the restraining order Mitchell’s family had against him. “It’s settled then. In the spring, we’ll take a trip to England.” That would hopefully give him enough time to gain more control over his thirst and he hoped that by then he wouldn’t need to drink blood any longer.

Annie grinned slightly and nodded her head. “Oh I will, just you wait.” Yeah she really hoped that there wouldn’t be any jinxing. And if he showed up, there was absolutely no way that they were bringing him into the house. Even if he wasn’t dreaming and not a vampire. But doubly if he was. They’d just have to figure out how to get rid of him the same way that they got rid of Owen. Restraining orders might not be enough to stop Herrick, especially if he started to have dreams and became some kind of psycho vampire. “Good. We’ll go in Spring. That sounds lovely.” She couldn’t wait to see the home country, even if it was only that in her dreams.
