"How's it hangin?" "Hangin?" Who: Katniss and Pansy When: Early December Where: Outside of Katniss’ school What: Hanging out Rating/Warning: Low/None Status: Complete
Pansy was sitting on the cement wall outside of Katniss’ school, waiting for the other girl to walk by. She could really blend in with all the high school students, considering she wasn’t that much older than they were. Only a year or so. But oh, so much had happened in the last year. It was incredible. She certainly felt a lot older than these kids, even if her Driver’s License said she was almost the same age.
Katniss walked out of the main school doors and down the steps, re-adjusting her backpack as she moved. She was so glad to be outside after being in that stuffy place. She looked up as she took a deep breath of fresh air and spotted a familiar face sat on the wall. "Hey you, what brings you here?" she asked as she approached Pansy.
“Looking for you, actually.” Pansy said, grinning. She jumped off the wall and fell into step beside the (slightly) younger girl. “How’s it hangin?”
"Hangin?" Katniss asked dubiously, giving her an amused smile. "Well, if you listen to some parts, the education system," she joked. "But I'm doing ok, thanks, you?"
Pansy laughed. “I dunno… hangin. It’s a thing, all right? Don’t argue with the things.” She said, shaking her head. “I’m good. Bored. Thought we should hang out or something. I know, I know, hang.”
Katniss laughed in return. “Sure, I can hang, have you got anything planned?” she asked.
“Nah. Wanna go catch a movie? Get some coffee? Do something… illicit?” Pansy asked, breaking into a really mischievous grin.
“Illicit? My, my, what do you have planned?” Katniss laughed.
“Whatever, dude.” Pansy said, grinning and shrugging. She pulled some keys out of her pocket, and motioned for Katniss to come along with her into her car. “We could get stoned and watch that new Disney Movie. Or um… I dunno, grab a couple of flasks and go somewhere really weird to drink. Like.. the Hollywood Sign? Ever been up there?”
“Wow, um, ok,” Katniss shrugged. “Sure, why not,” she told her. “Nope, never been to the Hollywood Sign, you planning on corrupting me then?” she grinned.
Pansy laughed. “Just trying to figure out where your limits are. See I haven’t hit one yet?” She asked, mostly teasing, as she nudged her friend with her elbow. “Besides, you really should be doing all this shit. That’s what our teenage years are for.”
“You’re talking to the girl who’s been hunting in the woods without a license since she was about 9,” Katniss told her dryly. “Show me what you’ve got,” she challenged with a grin. She wasn’t always one to show it when she was happy, but she was glad to have made a friend like Pansy, someone to hang out and share the craziness of this town with.
Pansy broke into an even brighter grin at that. She moved around to the trunk of her car and popped it open. Inside there was a clear, pyrex baking dish covered in foil. She moved the foil back to expose a little tray of brownies, cut into two inch squares. “...brownies?” Of course, there was an added ingredient in these brownies. A green ingredient.
Katniss chuckled as Pansy showed her the contents of the trunk. "Lead the way little devil," she grinned, indicating the car.
Pansy closed the drunk unlocked the car, and climbed into the driver’s seat. She pushed open Katniss’s door, and then turned the engine on. “Where are we heading? Ooh, maybe mini golf?” She asked. “So long as you’re not too cold.”
"I haven't played mini golf in years! Let's do that!" Katniss enthused.
Pansy beamed. She turned on the car’s heater and defogger, then they turned out onto the road. Some old, metal, hair band came blasting on the radio, and Pansy reached over to turn it down. “How much time do you have today? Because those brownies take a good twenty minutes to kick in.”
"As long as I'm home before 7, I'll text mom and tell her I'm going round a friends house," Katniss smiled, she'd never experimented with drugs before so this was a little exciting.
“Hey, no problem. I’ll get you home safe and sound.” Pansy gave her a grin, then turned onto the road to get them to the movie theater. It was still early, if they went in now they could pay matinee price. Or Pansy could just Apparate them straight into the theater. Y’know. Whatever’s clever.
“Safe and sound? You mean we’re not doing anything dangerous? You disappoint me,” Katniss teased with a smile, rolling her head against the headrest to look across at Pansy.
Pansy laughed. “Well, it’ll probably be dangerous.” She said, shrugging her shoulders. “I laugh in the face of danger, and usually come out unscathed.”
Katniss chuckled at that. “Usually?” she shrugged as if she were considering the idea. “Sounds like a plan to me!” She took another deep breath and settled in the seat a bit more. “So, do this sort of thing often?” she asked teasingly.
“Sometimes.” Pansy said, easily navigating her way through traffic as they headed across town toward the movie theater. “But it’s all good. I take it you don’t ever do this kind of thing.” She added, giving her friend a little grin.
“Uh no,” Katniss replied. “Can’t say I have, but it’s not for lack of trying. I wasn’t the most popular of girls in my last school,” she told Pansy with a sigh. “All they wanted to do was bitch about other people and make their lives miserable to compensate for their own miserable existences. I put them straight when they tried to pick on my sister and from that point on I might as well have been a leper,” she joked dryly.
“I hate girls.” Pansy said, shaking her head. And it was true. Girls sucked. For the most part. Guys were much better company. They didn’t freak out over stupid shit, and like to gossip over other stupid shit. “Girls really suck. For the most part. I guess one or two of them are cool.” She added, giving Pansy a grin.
They pulled into the parking lot, and Pansy shut off the car. “Okay, are you ready for an adventure?”
