"Yeah, well... it makes her nervous, I know," Ashley murmured with a sigh. Getting into the details of that particular story would require her to know more about this man and feel a little more comfortable with sharing something so private with someone else. It wasn't a story she told often beyond the detail that her father had walked out on them when she was young and her mother needed him the most. Aside from that... the details of her illness only made it worse.
"This probably isn't the best time or place to have a really involved conversation," she began, finally looking back at Varric seriously. "Can we agree, for now, that as long as we're both working to help my mom deal with life and get out more, and that neither of us does anything to permanently scare her, we can get along?"
It was an offer she hoped would become permanent, but she wanted him to know that this wasn't over yet. She had other questions for him, wanted to get to know him better before she made her decision. Even so, she was willing to give him a chance and that was very important.
