Justin had been enjoying a day out with Billy, wandering around in the snow. Justin was still extremely shocked that it had snowed in Orange County and not knowing how long it’d last, he wanted to enjoy it. After picking his boyfriend up earlier, they’d gone out for lunch and were now doing a bit of window shopping downtown. He still needed to get Billy something for Christmas and he had figured that this would be a good way to both enjoy the snow and see if anything in any of the store windows caught Billy’s eye.
Billy was definitely a fan of the snow and, like Justin, wanted to enjoy it. So far they were having a really nice day, Billy loved being able to just wander around chatting happily to his boyfriend while they held hands and window shopped. He’d bought Justin some art supplies already but he was taking note of anything he seemed to like - just in case there was anything perfect Billy could come back and get later.
Justin squeezed Billy’s hand as they walked, happy that they lived in a place where they could openly hold hands and not have to worry about too much negativity for it. There was always that occasional person who said something, but that was just the way it still was and unless it was particularly offensive, Justin tried to ignore it. “So, are you gonna have to play gopher on Christmas Eve?” He knew that Billy was more than just Zelda’s gopher, but sometimes he teased him a bit.
“I’m hoping to be able to do a half day and then just be on call for tunnel digging” he grinned, nudging Justin’s shoulder with his own. Billy didn’t really mind the teasing, in fact he kind of liked it but he wasn’t going to completely admit that. “Did you want to do something?” he asked.
Justin laughed and nudged Billy’s shoulder back, “Well, I’m gonna be in Beverly Hills with my family and I was wondering if you’d want to come by.” His parents knew about Billy and he wanted to introduce his boyfriend to them, but if Billy wanted to wait for another time other than Christmas, Justin would respect that.
"Yeah?" Billy smiled then nodded, "I'd like that, if you're sure they won't mind" he liked the idea of meeting Justin's parents, it kind of confirmed that their relationship was serious.
“Of course they won’t mind. My mother actually asked me if I was bringing you home for Christmas.” Justin smiled and squeezed Billy’s hand, excited at the idea of introducing him to his parents, “I’ll actually be there all day, so I can give you the address then when you’re done with Zelda you can come on over.”
Billy blushed, he was beyond pleased that Justin had been talking about him to his parents. Billy had too of course, but he hadn’t known for sure Justin had done the same. He nodded, “That sounds like a good plan to me. Thank you” he added softly, squeezing Justin’s hand and leaning on his arm a little.
“And then maybe you can come stay over my place.” Justin’s brows rose slightly in question. Waking up on Christmas morning next to his boyfriend would be one of the best gifts he could get as far as Justin was concerned. As they continued walking down the street, Justin heard the sound of a bell being rung and glanced in the direction of it to find out that it was a Salvation Army collection bucket volunteer, “I can’t believe the Salvation Army can get away with some of the things they’ve said recently and people still give them money.” Justin was of course referring to their recent statement that, all gays deserve to die. For someone who was as proud of his sexuality as Justin was, anti-gay statements like that always pissed him off.
“You know I’m never going to say no to that” Billy told him happily, knowing his smile probably looked manic but not caring because he wanted everybody to know how happy he was.
“I know, directed at any other group of people and those kind of statements would cause so much more trouble. It’s like most people just like to brush homophobia under the table instead of tackling it head on” Billy had dealt with his fair share of small minded people, it’s why he’d needed to move schools - he didn’t want to have to hide who he was just because some people had an issue with the truth.
"Exactly." Justin hadn't really been bullied in school for his sexuality; at least not in the waking world, but he had in the dreams and he hated that sort of closed mindedness. "I mean, I'm sure not all the volunteers think that way, but it's the organization as a whole that's doing the damage." As they walked by, Justin noticed that one of the two bell ringers was giving them a look and Justin just couldn't ignore it. Stopping, he let go of Billy's hand and wrapping his arm around the brunette's waist, pulling him closer then kissed him.
Billy had noticed the same look so when Justin pulled him in closer he happily went and returned the kiss, wrapping his own arms around Justin’s neck. His fingers carded through his boyfriend’s hair as they kissed and he was smiling when they parted.
Justin smiled into the kiss, nipping at Billy’s bottom lip before pulling away. He was glad that despite the fact that there were organizations like The Salvation Army who hated them, Justin could still kiss his boyfriend in public. Glancing past Billy, towards the Salvation Army volunteers, he saw that the same one who had been giving them a look before now looked completely appalled. “I think we succeeded in our mission.” He smirked, pressing another kiss to Billy’s lips, sliding his hand down to lace their fingers together again.
“Mmmm good” he replied against Justin’s lips, smiling as they held hands once more, his fingers rubbing over his boyfriends. Billy was hopeful that one day they wouldn’t have to defend themselves against people like the Salvation Army but while they did have to he was pleased he had Justin.
