Who: Fleur and Cass
When: Beginning of the month
Where: The Mall
What: Catching up between friends
How long had it been since she has seen Cass? Fleur wasn't sure other than it had been entirely too long. It had been easy to get caught up in practice schedules and lose track of her friend but Fleur was more than ready to remedy that now. She missed the girl’s company. There weren’t many people she considered close friends but she counted Cass in that group even if they hadn’t known each other for the longest.
Here,
Fleur sent the text and waited while she sat on the bench and watched the pedestrians walk by. They hadn’t exactly set plans in stone but there were plenty of things to do at the mall; shop, eat, or just people watch. She figured they could figure it out when her friend arrived.
Cass had been so busy with gymnastics stuff that aside from Jubilee, who she lived with, and Simon, she hadn’t really seen much of any of her other friends and that included Fleur. She and the other girl had hit it off months earlier and Cass felt bad for not being able to make time until now to see her again. They’d decided to meet at the mall and decide from there on what to do, so when Cass received Fleur’s text, she got out of her car where she was parked in the parking lot and headed towards the front of the mall, spotting the blond as she approached. “Hey!” She exclaimed, waving as she got closer
“Sault,” Fleur said warmly in her typical French accent as she got up and returned the wave her friend gave her. “Looking as always,” she told her knowing that last time they had seen each other had been shortly after the girl’s injury and around the time of her own. At least this time they were both in one beautiful piece. “Don’t ask me what I want to do yet because I don’t know.” Fleur told her with a laugh. They had a lot of options at the mall.
Cass was very glad that they were both in one piece now. That whole broken collarbone and dislocated shoulder thing had been one of the most uncomfortable things that had ever happened to her and she was glad that, that was over with. “Well, we can just walk around until we find any stores we want to go into.” She said, turning towards the entrance of the mall. After all, it would be easier to catch up and talk if they were mostly walking then if they were both preoccupied looking at different things.
“Deal,” Fleur said as she got to her feet and started walking letting her blue eyes wonder the colorful displays in the shops as they all got ready for the Christmas rush. Malls weren’t a place she frequented much as she had a friend that was a designer and was responsible for almost all her clothing. Still she liked seeing the available options and the holiday stuff. “I want to see snow for Christmas,” she said randomly while the thought was bouncing around her head.
“Were you here last December? It snowed then.” Cass, just like everyone else, had been extremely shocked to see the snow, which had lasted about a week or so the Christmas before. She still didn’t know exactly how that had happened in California, but she had enjoyed it, even though she hadn’t been completely prepared, because it had closed down the gym and Cass had gotten a little reprieve from practicing.
“I was,” she said with a nod of her head. It had been something she had actually enjoyed, playing in the snow. Though the memories made her heart ache just a bit. That had been a happier time, not that she was unhappy now, she wasn’t, but it wasn’t the same. “It was a little hard to play in the snow though with a broken leg. I want to do that again… Though I might go to Paris for Christmas this year. Go back home, how about you?”
“I’m not sure what I’m doing for Christmas,” It would be her first Christmas not with her parents, not that Christmas with her parents had been all that enjoyable for the last few years, but it would definitely be different. “I guess it all depends on what happens with this guy I’m sort of seeing.” She didn’t really know how to categorize what was going on with Simon, but she knew that they both liked each other. She was just taking it slow for the time being.
Fleur raised her eyebrows hearing her friend’s words, “Oh? Do I get a few more details than that or do you want me to take a guess.” She said with a laugh figuring it would be best if she didn’t fill in the details herself. It would be hilarious and probably really really off the mark.
Cass smirked and nodded, “He’s also a gymnast, but he doesn’t compete. We met at my gym and we’ve gone out a few times and he’s really nice. Really sweet.” Cass’ smirk widened as she talked about Simon, “I’m just worried that it’ll wind up just like every other guy I’ve liked.”
“Sounds like a winner, I like him already.” She told her friend with an approving nod of her head. “Don’t I know that feeling,” Fleur confessed softly before adding more to her statement,
“Just try to enjoy it, even if it’s easier said than done. Maybe it will but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy it for what it is. Hopefully it will work out. Though you know this is coming from the girl that has been out what… Once since my ex called off our engagement Valentines Day. I never did like that holiday.”
Cass wouldn’t say it outloud to Fleur, but she kind of liked that fact that there was another girl who knew exactly what she was talking about. Jubilee had, had multiple relationships over the last year, but she still had better luck at dating than Cass had. At least this was what Cass believed since she didn’t remember Laura. “Have you talked to him at all since?” She wasn’t sure if Fleur was on good terms or not with her ex, but Cass knew that some people stayed in touch with exes even after they broke up. If she knew where Gav was, she’d probably still talk to him. Bod as well.
Fleur shrugged her shoulders, "Not really. He kind of fled the country and cellphone service isn't the greatest in Egypt." Their contact was minimal but Fleur wasn't sure if she would want to talk to Bill regularly or not. She wasn't angry anymore so it was a possibility. "I am not sure he wants to talk to me. Apparently I am not who I am in the dreams. One less present I have to buy for Christmas," she joked lightly.
“So you knew your ex in your dreams?” Cass had met a few people who dreamt of the same world as she did and even one or two people that she knew in the dreams, but never anyone she’d been romantically involved with in the dreams. Then again the only one had been Superboy and that had been very short lived. “How different were you in the dreams then?” Cass was very different from her dream self and wondered how many other people were different from the version of themselves that they dreamt about
“Was married to him even.” Fleur told her friend biting her lip a bit. She hadn’t started dreaming of Bill in her dreams until after they were dating but she wondered just how much that had influenced their relationship. “I don’t know, I mean I didn’t think all that different but he seemed to think so. I think a lot of it was commitment issues and well… I don’t think all men appreciate a strong independent woman. I mean I work a lot kinda but I make a lot of money and well, you’ve been injured, you know how that weighs on you sometimes.”
Cass might not have been in any real relationships either in real life or in her dreams, but she could understand what Fluer was talking about. When you were an athlete like the two of them were and you got injured, all you could think about was whether or not you would be able to get back in the game or if you were done and if you were done, what would you do next? And that could hurt any sort of relationship, “I’m sure that you’ll find someone who can deal with the whole dance thing. Someone who will be there for you and support your career.”
Fleur nodded, “Yep. They’re out there somewhere.” She agreed and for once she was content to focus on herself and her career at the moment. There were plenty of things that she wanted to do and that was what was important. “I also signed a modeling contract did I tell you?” She said with a grin though it wasn’t really a stretch. She had always done a little on the side for her friend. “How about you? What’s going on in your life outside boys and such?”
“No, you hadn’t mentioned that. Congratulations.” Cass smiled, happy that her friend seemed to be doing so well, “What kind of modeling are you going to be doing?” Cass had done a few photoshoots here and there because of various endorsements, but she’d never done any real modeling. Nothing that could qualify her as a professional model. “Well, I’ve started co-coaching a few girls. My coach is really their coach, but I’ve been helping so that I can learn the ropes. Other than that, I haven’t really been doing much. Still spend most of my days at the gym. Nothing too exciting, I’m afraid.”
"Mostly clothing lines and stuff, nothing too risqué," she joked lightly knowing that wasn't really her style and she wasn't really built for it. She was a dancer, an athlete and it meant her body was more muscle than curves. It was more than fine with her. "Sounds like fun though and I am sure the girls appreciate it. They probably look up to you I am sure."
“That’s still really good. I’ve done a couple shoots for leotards and stuff. It’s fun.” Cass said, smiling as they continued walking through the mall, “I’m sure everyone will want you to model their stuff soon.” She was happy that Fleur was doing things that made her happy, “I would hope so. I’ve always tried to be a good role model for younger girls.”
"That kind of stuff is always fun. Do they let you keep some of the stuff after? We always got to keep some of the dance stuff as part of payment." Fleur looked a moment at some of the displays but kept walking. "You are and its good to see. Girls need more people like you to look up to."
Cass nodded, “A lot of it was from endorsements, so I got to keep it. Plus, if I was doing shoots for leotards, they’d want me to wear them during competitions and things.” She hadn’t done and endorsements or anything since before she’d separated from her parents then she’d gotten injured, so it might be fun to look into doing something again. “Thanks. You’re a good role model too.”
