The snow was heavy and the night was growing even more surprisingly cold compared to the daytime. Rosalind shivered under her umbrella as she waited for Robert to get a newspaper from the machine. He’d taken an interest in the headline, and she huffed impatiently while he tried to feed coins into the slot.
“Be patient, my fingers are nearly numb.” He chided, finally getting his first coin into the slot.
“That’s why I’m wearing gloves. I think you’ll find that is the smart thing to do in this situation.” Rosalind noted, holding out her hand to collect the paper.
Robert handed it over and stuffed his hands in his pockets, ducking under Rosalind’s umbrella. She ‘tsk’ed at him, but let him stay, even though his own umbrella was dangling from its strap around his wrist. “We’re just on our way to the pub, I’ll be warm again shortly.”
Ash stepped out of the store he had been in and almost ran into them, and then grinned as he sized them up. “Well, then, what can it be but two Valarnetters, of gorgeous mien, and awesome brains, out for a bit of a spin.” HIs smirk widened. “And looking rather awesome while doing so, too.” They looked pretty damn good, for sure.
The Luteces looked at Ash curiously. Robert spoke first. “Well, thank you, we do try.”
“Despite what the rain does to our hair.” Rosalind noted.
“We’re rather used to that, honestly.” Robert added.
“We’ve seen you around as well.” Rosalind said, moving closer. Robert moved in stride with her, to avoid the rain.
“You work with animals, don’t you?” Robert asked, checking him out. Rosalind was doing so as well, slightly more discreetly.
“I’d hope so, and I do, yes.” He grinned at her. And at him, and nodded. “I train them for companion roles, instead of servant ones. Firefighter, soldier, and cop assistance, as well as true companion animals to those who need them.” He rubbed his hairless chin, grinning wider.
“What brings you two out this evening?”
“We’re on our way to get a drink.” Robert said cheerfully.
“Would you care to join us?” Rosalind asked.
“We’d like to hear about your work.”
“I’d be glad to. And that sounds like fun. You two are the science twins right? From what I saw you must know a heck of a lot about the mysteries of the world.” Ash’s smile was radiant as he nodded to them. “I’ll never be a scientist for sure, but I am always curious about it. My dad did a lot of science when I was young.”
He gestured along the street. “Lets go get some drinks.”
The Luteces laughed at being called the science twins. It was accurate, but still amusing. Rosalind looped her arm in his, and Robert took the other one. “I think we’ll keep you amused.” Robert noted, his tone a little flirty.
“We know quite a bit about the universe, but we’d love to learn a little more about psychology.” Rosalind piped up.
“Yes, the question of the evening is how many drinks it would take for you to forget how strange we are.” Robert added
“My hypothesis, based on your height, age, and apparent weight, is five.” Rosalind finished with a nod. Robert nodded as well.
Ash smirked at finding himself between them, and his eyes lit, bouncing back and forth as they walked. “I somehow doubt that keeping me amused will be a problem for you two. With brains and looks, and a smile like you have, I am already fascinated.” He nodded.
Walking with them, he grinned. “Forget it? Why would I want to do that? I like how strange you are. I find it… intriguing.” And he put what was almost a purr into his voice at that word.
“But far be it from me to say no. I’ll drink your drinks, fair ones, and hope to make you rather… intrigued as well.” His hips bumped theirs as he walked with them.
The pair laughed. Rosalind looked over at Robert. He smirked at her in return. She chuckled again and led Ash and her brother into the bar. They ordered two pints of lager and took their seats on either side of Ash, giving him a moment to order as well. “We hope to keep you entertained.” Rosalind said with a smirk.
Robert put a hand on Ash’s shoulder. “But do tell us if it’s a little too much.”
“We can be a little overwhelming.”
Ash was enjoying himself immensely. He ordered a shot of whiskey to start, and a beer chaser. These two were hot, interesting, and cool! He smirked as he ordered, and settled, one arm slipping around each of them for a moment, and groping their rears above the seats.
“I have a feeling that won't be a problem. But I’ll let you know.”
Robert reacted in a sedate manner to the grope. He laughed once and reached over to grope Ash in return. Rosalind was much more noticeable, because she squealed loudly and turned toward Ash, feigning indignation. “Did you like what you felt?” She asked.
Ash wiggled in the grope, grinning. He liked that he had gotten reciprocation and recognition, but no complaints. At Rosalind’s words, he grinned wider, and nodded. “Well, yeah. Nice, firm, and fully packed.”
Rosalind laughed at that. “You’re not shy at all, are you?” She was beginning to realize that she liked men who were upfront about their needs. She had needs too, it was efficient.
Robert snorted. “We work hard on them, it’s nice to have that appreciated.” He took a drink of his pint, admiring Ash for a moment. He normally liked his men a little taller, but beggars couldn’t be choosers and after five years he was certainly a beggar.
“Not at all. I like what I like and see no reason to be ashamed of it, you know? I’m not going to go yelling it to every stranger I meet, but if I meet one who I like, I wont be shy.” He nodded, and smiled at Rosalind, then Robert. “You do a good job.”
Ash was wiry, and muscled, but in a lean way. He had a tendency to look shorter than he was, but when he uncoiled to his full height, he tended to surprise people. He was also just a touch lopsided, to the right, where he normally held the leash to his trained dog companion.
Rosalind was to his right, but she thought he favored her over her brother and thought little of it. He was charming, in a way, and she thought he might be fun. She could use a little fun, after the dreams, and she knew Robert felt the same way.
She sipped her drink, smiling slightly at him. “You look quite good to me as well.”
Robert was eying him, and had to fight the urge to stand behind Ash and straighten his shoulders. It was a bold move at this point, and he didn’t want to make the young man uncomfortable. Still, it was hard to resist touching him. He was very nice to look at, future scoliosis aside. “I think you’re being a bit premature, Rosalind. We only know what about ten percent of him looks like, and he can say the same for us.”
Rosalind’s expression sobered, and she nodded seriously. “You’re right, of course. we all need to do thorough research to see if we really are as appealing as we appear. A good suit can hide many flaws.”
“Then we should finish some drinks and do more research. somewhere where no one else will interfere with it.” He could adapt his language, sometimes, and they were interesting. “Perhaps run a few hands on tests, no?” He thought they were sexy, not just for their bodies, which were awesome, but for their obvious smarts.
The Luteces nodded. “Yes, I believe that’s best.” Rosalind said with a smile.
Robert settled their tab and stroked Ash’s back. He didn’t need to drink to want Ash.
Ash just wanted to finish his drink, since it was a fun one. He had a feeling this was going to be an interesting night. He nearly purred under the touch, and he smirked with one hand on Robert’s side and the other, having finished his drink,. on Rosalinda’s leg.
“Sounds like a plan. My place or yours?”
“Our place is prepared for this eventuality.” Robert noted, sliding off the stool and taking Ash’s hand. It was ridiculous how good such a simple thing like this could feel. Years without this kind of affectionate touch from anyone but his sister. He didn’t want a woman’s touch right now. Not a bit.
Rosalind was bright red, the hand on her leg felt like it was burning through her pants. The room was too hot and she wanted nothing more than to disrobe and pull Ash’s clothing off as well. She didn’t know how she’d lived without this. She wanted love like they’d had before, but she needed lust and attraction as well. She slid off the stool and grabbed the umbrella. “Unless you’d be more comfortable at your place.”
Ash smirked and his eyes burned with the need for it, for them. They were perfect, absolutely stellar, and he was driven by a sudden knowledge that he could do this, with them, and maybe even… he dared not think it, but maybe even only with them. The idea caught his imagination, and he breathed it in as he smiled to himself, and then to them, brightly. “Yours. I like that. Let me grab my bag from my car, and I can follow you there?”
“Yes.” The said in unison. Robert risked a brief kiss while Rosalind fished for their calling card. She let her brother have his turn, and then took his place, slipping the card into Ash’s hand as they kissed.
“We’ll meet you there.” Robert promised, his eyes bright and his expression determined. He was going to drive like there was no tomorrow.
“It’s not far, you shouldn’t get lost.” Rosalind said helpfully. She looked out at the rainy night, but it was no longer daunting. They were going to enjoy this if it killed them.
Ash’s head swam after the twin kisses, and he was more than ready to follow them to hell and back. He walked out with them, and then headed to his car, a hop to his step. This was the beginning, he knew, of a very intriguing time…
