Who: Stiles and Derek
What: Stiles and Derek go Christmas shopping.
Where: Around town.
When: 12/13
Rating: PG-13 for language and adorbs.
Status: Incomplete

After getting dressed and telling his mom - his dad being at work today - that he was going to the mall with Derek, Stiles got dressed and texted the man that he was ready. They hadn't really settled on a time or anything, just a day - which was today, in fact. He wasn't nervous, per say, but the last couple times they'd hung out together had gone pretty well, he thought. And he liked hanging out with Derek and hoped that Derek liked hanging out with him too.

He still had plans, of course, to woo Derek. But they were slow going, since he needed to show Derek that he wasn't just 'a kid' anymore. He was seventeen! That's closer to adulthood than it is childhood, right? Right.

Anyway, he loitered around his front door, chewing his nails, until he heard the Camaro pull up and Derek honk the horn for him. He waited at least fifteen-thirty seconds before heading out of the house, not wanting to seem too eager or anything.

Jogging down the sidewalk to the driveway, the teen grinned as he got into the vehicle and buckled himself in. "Ready to hit the mall, big guy?"

"Ready as I'll ever be." He has a list a mile long for all his cousins, plus aunts and uncles, and then his parents and Laura and Cora. At least the kids were relatively easy to shop for.

"Promise not to get lost in the toy store?"

"I think I should be asking you that, considering you have more kids to shop for," he says, grinning. Though he certainly didn't say he would promise. Because he couldn't, let's be real here.

"Where do you wanna start first? I gotta get something for mom and dad, Lydia," he started, then listed off various other close friends he needed presents for.

"We'll shop for the adults first, and then hit the kids. It always works for me." Derek has Christmas shopping down to an exact science by now, after so many years and so many people to shop for.

"Works for me! I have no idea what to get my dad... or my mom. It was so much easier when I was little and they just bought each other shit and slapped my name on it."

"My sisters are always the hard ones for me. They were easier when we were younger, but now they're in their twenties and I have no idea what to get them. Other than clothes, and no one wants clothes for Christmas."

That makes him laugh a little. "One year I got socks for Christmas," he grins, looking over at Derek. "I'd run around shoeless half the time and get holes in my socks. But dude, yeah, I have no idea what to get Lydia for Christmas."

"Ask Uncle Peter," he says, rolling his eyes. The whole -- whatever it is between them weirds him out. But here he is, taking his not-yet-legal friend out shopping. So he'll keep his mouth shut.

"I'm getting you socks for Christmas, then."

Stiles makes a face at that. "Yeah no, thanks. I'd rather not." He didn't get that whole... whatever it was they had going on. It certainly wasn't professional, he didn't think. But, whatever. To each their own and all that, right? Right.

"Dude, you so better not," Stiles laughs, elbowing Derek in the side. "I totally deserve a better present than socks."

Neither does Derek, and Derek really really prefers to just not ask.

"That's assuming you're getting a present from me at all," Derek points out. Because honestly, he has no idea what to get Stiles for Christmas. Maybe a video game or something.

"Pffft, you so are. I'm getting you a present," he offers in return, grinning. He has no idea what to get Derek either. Maybe a gag-gift and then a real gift or something.

"I'd probably get you something horrible. I don't even know what you kids are into, these days."

There he goes with the word 'kids' again. "I don't know what 'kids' are into either, since I'm not a child," he huffs, but tries not to let it bother him. "I liked to read- yes, actual books, not just comic books. I like movies. Everyone likes movies."

"I was teasing." He's just -- really bad at teasing.

"Okay, books. I can do books. What do you like to read?"

He hums a few moments in thought. "Scifi, fantasy. Lord of the Rings type stuff, you know? But I also like mystery and suspense, like crime novels." Which would figure, given his dads occupation.

Derek starts coming up with a few ideas, ticking off a few books and series in his head that he could introduce Stiles to. Maybe he'll just get a whole bunch, stock up for future presents.

"Cool." They pull up at the mall and Derek takes an exaggerated breath. "Ready?"

"Yeah, totally!" Stiles exclaims and once they park he's out of the car like a shot, closing the door behind him and bouncing on his feet as he waits for Derek, then heads into the mall with him.

"So, adults first right? Where do you wanna hit up first?"
