Who: Finn Mikaelson and Sage
What: Suit Shopping
When: Backdated: Saturday, November 16th. Late Afternoon
Where: The Mall
Rating: Family Friendly
Status: Complete

Finn probably should have started looking for a suit earlier, but with the dreams and then not being able to talk, it had be pushed to the back burner, but now the wedding was only about a week away, which meant that Finn couldn’t procrastinate any longer. Sure, he had a few suits in his closet, but they were old and he wanted something new for Rebekah’s wedding. He had thought about asking Stefan or Elijah if they would go with him, after all Elijah was probably the expert when it came to suits, but he knew that Stefan had a lot going on at the moment and Elijah was so hard to get a hold of sometimes, so Finn had decided to go by himself. And that was what brought him to the mall today. He wondered if he should have gone to a bigger tux store, but he was going to check the mall first.

The mall was (unfortunately) where Sage spent a whole lot of her life. That was what she got for being in retail as a store manager. She had to keep her team going, make sure they made sales, keep the drama at a low… It could be tiring at times, but the money made it worth it. It kept herself and her parents afloat where retirement just wouldn’t do. The only thing was that it didn’t give her too much time to shop, especially with her other hobbies, but she had managed to get off early today and left her first assistant in charge since the store was rather slow.

She’d get some quick shopping in and then head home to change before going to practice. It was simple enough as the redhead wasn’t one to spend hours in a store, she moved quickly and efficiently. But passing by a shop, she glanced inside and did a double take. She recognized the man immediately. It was Finn and apparently he was shopping for suits. The woman smirked and approached, high heels clicking on the tile floor. “Fancy meeting you here.”

Finn hadn’t been expecting to run into any one he knew at the mall and it took him a moment to recognize the woman. She was just as beautiful as in his dreams and he could easily see why he’d fallen for her. “Hello, Sage.” He smiled as he greeted her, unable to take his eyes off her. She really was stunning. “Shopping for suits too?” He asked, looking for any topic other than his dreams. While he’d dreamt of her, he doubted she’d dreamt of him yet and he certainly didn’t want to come off as one of those creepy guys.

She wanted to immediately tell him that he’d been right about the whole ‘not really able to tell someone’s true appearance from a picture’. He was much more handsome in person, which was pretty impressive, in and of itself. Sage could easily start flirting with him, but she had to admit she was really more curious about what was in his head instead of what was in his pants. He was different from a lot of the men that the redhead surrounded herself with.

“Nope. Though I have some pretty cute pantsuits in my closet, Finn.” She stopped on the other side of the merchandise rack across from him and set her hands down on top of the hangers, staring directly at him with those bright blue eyes of hers. “I work here...not in this store but…” she lifted a hand to show she meant in the mall.

Finn found himself following her with his gaze as she moved around the other side of the rack, “I wouldn’t have pegged you for a mall employee.” He had thought she’d have some sort of upscale job to go along with her good looks. Not that there was anything wrong with working in the mall, but she just didn’t seem to fit there. Even when it came to shopping she seemed like she belonged in Beverly Hills or Los Angeles. “Which store do you work in?” It was a little surreal, standing there, talking to her when he knew so much about the dream version of her, but she was a virtual stranger in the waking world.

She laughed, obviously quite amused and enjoying her current company in the handsome stranger. “Neither would I, but we have more upscale stores than a lot of malls around. I started here when I was a teenager, looking for better employment. Had to work my way up,” Sage informed him with a slight shrug of her shoulders. “I’m a manager at Saks Fifth Avenue, actually. Which is exactly why my feet are killing me in these shoes.” Every woman who worked in a high-end store was bound to have a love-hate relationship with high heels, and it was no different with Sage. At least her posture looked incredible and she definitely gave the vibe of a leader.

The redhead gave a little sigh suddenly, stretching out with her eyes falling shut, before she was standing straight again and staring at Finn, a Cheshire cat expression on her face. “What do you need the suit for,” the woman asked, placing her elbow on an arm of the rack and putting her chin in her palm. “Have a fancy date?”

Sak was definitely a step up from most other retail and seemed a lot more Sage’s style, “That’s impressive. It must be a lot of work though.” He could easily picture Sage in that atmosphere now that he knew a little more about her specific job. The shoes might have killed her feet, but they definitely made Sage’s legs look extremely nice. Well, what he’d seen of them before she’d situated herself on the other side of the rack.

“My sister’s wedding,” He replied, glancing back at the suits he’d been looking at. He really should have gotten Elijah to help him with this. He really was clueless when it came to suits. “It’s in about a week and I need a suit to wear.”

“It is a lot of work, but if I’m not working hard, I’m not satisfied,” she replied with a smirk coming over her lips, eyes boring into his own. He really was quite handsome and looking around at the racks of suits, she knew that none of these would do. Finn seemed so lost right now, like a little puppy, and she just wanted to help him, though the idea made her laugh softly, dropping her head and lifting her hand to her mouth.

“I’m sorry. You just...look so pitiful and out of your comfort zone, right now.” Lifting her head back up, Sage made her way around the rack and to his side where she took his arm. “I’m going to help you, because you’re much too handsome to be stuck in the wrong suit.” Giving a kind smile that was laced with all sorts of flirtations, Sage pulled the man out of the store and into the swarm of people towards another shop.

“This is much more my older brother’s territory.” Finn said as he watched Sage come around to his side of the rack, “But he’s difficult to get a hold of at times.” He hadn’t expected her to take his arm or offer to help him, but it made sense that if anyone would know clothes in was someone who worked at Saks. “Thank you. I appreciate the help, but only if I won’t be keeping you from anything else you had planned to do today.” Finn didn’t want Sage to drop her plans just to help him.

“It’s alright. I was going to get a bit of my own shopping in before heading home, but it’ll be much more fun to help you,” she assured him, patting his arm with her other hand. She helped customers and employees all day long at her job, so one might think she’d be done with it after her shift, but Finn was cute and there seemed to be some sort of mutual interest between them, so why shouldn’t she let him borrow her expertise for a wedding suit?

“Honestly. It’s not a bother or anything. If it was, I wouldn’t be tugging you around currently, would I?” Sage looked at him with a grin on her face and pulled Finn into Macy’s, right towards men’s formal wear. Of course, a sales associate was right there and Sage was holding a hand up to the guy. “Don’t start the spiel. If we need help, I’ll tell you.” She turned away from the employee and back to Finn, putting her hands together. “I’m thinking...three piece.”

Honestly, Finn was happy to have run into Sage. He’d always hated the pushy salespeople when he went shopping. He understood that it was their job to help, but not all of them had the customer’s best interests in mind. Sage on the other hand, was clearly one of the better salespeople. He felt like she would give him her honest opinion on things. “Well, I’m thankful that you have the time to help me. Otherwise I’d probably wind up wearing an old suit.” He could think of worse ways to spend an afternoon than with a beautiful woman.

“That’s not going to do for a wedding,” Sage chastised the man teasingly, running her fingers along his arm before she pulled back, heading towards some racks to begin looking through jackets. “You gotta look your best to attract all those single ladies.” She was smirking to herself, glancing over at him with the gears in her mind obviously turning. She might have looked like she was undressing him in her head, but she was just trying to figure out his sizing. The redhead began to pull items off the rack, thinking about what might go with what else.

“So..tell me about the happy couple.”

Finn was fairly certain that Sage was flirting with him and while any other man would flirt right back, Finn was so out of the dating scene that he wasn’t even sure what he’d do in response. So instead, he nodded and watched her, paying attention to what she was picking out. As far as he could remember, the last time he’d had to wear a suit was probably his high school graduation. It might have been after that, but one of the unfortunate side affects of the drugs he’d done in the past was that he had a hard times remembering certain details sometimes.

“They’ve been together for about two years and have a one year old daughter. To be honest, I only really started to get to know her fiance recently. I came back a few months ago and have been getting to know him and my niece.” And he was extremely glad that he had come back.

Sage could really look up to a guy that had come so far from a tough background, after all, she’d done the same thing. Life hadn’t been easy for her either when she was growing up, though she’d never gone down the path Finn had as her father had attempted to steer in her the right direction. It had worked. At least her companion here had managed to pull himself out of things eventually and he really did seem happy.

“That’s...Damon’s brother, right? I think they mixed up the order of things,” she joked lightly, pausing in her search to look over at Finn with a surprisingly sweet smile. “Damon never had anything good to say about him, but he was incredibly moody at the time and I figured his little brother was actually a good guy.”

Finn hadn't paid any attention to who else Sage had spoken to on Valarnet, so he was surprised to hear that she knew Damon. He barely even knew Damon to be honest, "Yes, that's Stefan's brother. I wasn't aware that you knew him." He watched her as she searched through suits, "And Stefan is a good guy. He treats my sister well and is a good father to Natalia. I can't complain, but I know how brothers can treat one another."

“We used to date,” she said without hesitation about Damon, giving a little smirk and turning on her heel to head towards some rows of ties, flicking through colors and designs. “It was quite a while ago and we sorta didn’t keep in contact after we went our separate ways. We weren’t really...attached like normal boyfriends and girlfriends. I guess we got what we wanted from each other.” Damon had been a good break from the mundane and she’d enjoyed his company, but he’d had his own future and she’d had hers, something they both realized. It was kinda nice to have him back around though.

Sage turned away from the ties and looked at Finn with her lips pressed together into a line. “At least your sister got lucky, right? And Damon has his new girlfriend that he has real feelings for.”

Finn listened, following Sage as she looked at the ties. He’d met Damon a few times since moving back and he could definitely picture him and Sage together. “Yes, she did.” He said in response to the part about Rebekah, “And yes, I suppose Damon had as well.” He glanced at a tie then back at Sage, “I hope you’ve had good experiences since then as well.”

“I wouldn’t call them...good. More like semi-decent,” she replied, pulling away from the racks and taking Finn’s wrist to tug him towards the fitting rooms in the men’s section. They passed by an attendant and Sage showed him what she had in her arms for her companion, then moved past to one of the rooms that wasn’t currently in use. She started hanging up the clothes and gave a sigh. “My history of boyfriends and friends with benefits is a long and complicated one, Finn. I’ll tell you that much,” Sage informed him, stepping out of the room so he could start to change.
