Who: Ariel and Valentine.
What: Beach encounter.
When: Monday afternoon.
Where: The beach.
Rating: Low.
Status: Complete.
Valentine was sat on the beach with her hands wrapped around her hot chocolate cup, it was a little chilly but she had only gone for a walk. No homework on the beach for her today. Peter wasn’t due home for another hour or so which meant she didn’t need to be home until then. She’d recently had her first dream and ever since it she’d made sure not to leave Ender alone with their older brother.
Looking out at the sea she sighed, things would be so much simpler if it was just her and Ender.
Ariel was homework free, but she loved the beach and wanted to take advantage of the nice day. With some free time on her hands, she wandered along, just where the waves ran out on the sand, looking for any interesting shells along the way.
Looking along the shoreline Valentine spotted the red headed girl quickly and wondered if it was the same one she had spoken to online. Standing she wandered over, “Found anything fun?” she asked with a smile, “Hello” she added belatedly.
She was a bit startled, but Ariel glanced up with a bright smile anyway. “Hi. Oh, not really, mostly just broken shells. But sometimes there are some pretty nice ones that have washed up.” She shrugged, not looking put out by her lack of success.
“Sorry I didn’t mean to interrupt” Valentine said noticing the other girls reaction, “I saw you from over there” she pointed out where she had been sitting, “I’m Valentine” she added, wondering if she had the right girl.
“Oh, it’s fine!” Ariel grinned, then laughed, and then looked like she put two-and-two together. “Oh! Valentine? Like from the network? Small world!”
“Yep, from the network” she grinned, “It really is. How are you? No studying today?”
“Exciting!” Ariel loved meeting new people, especially people that weren’t really new but sort of. She would never scoff at new friends. “I’m good. How are you? I finished all my work in class, so I figured I’d come enjoy myself a bit.”
Valentine smiled brightly, she liked making new friends too. “I’m good too. Pretty much the same story for me, I like coming here to think and clear my head”
“Especially this time of year,” added Ariel. “I mean, I love it in the summer, but right now it’s not as busy so it feels a bit more personal. A little more private.”
"I agree" Valentine said, "Well until I came over and ruined your peace" she smiled.
“Don’t be silly!” Ariel laughed. “I don’t mind. Really. It’s a happy surprise!”
“I’m glad you think so” Valentine said happily, “And that you don’t just think I’m some random crazy person”
“Nah, I’ll give anyone the benefit of the doubt before I decide if they’re crazy.” Ariel grinned. She glanced at her watch and made a face. “Oof, I better start heading home. My dad might start worrying any minute now.”
Valentine laughed, "I like that. After all it might be the harmless kind of crazy" Checking her own watch she nodded, "Don't let me keep you. I don't want you getting in trouble." Luckily Valentine's own parents didn't keep tabs on her too closely.
“Yeah! Friendly crazy,” Ariel agreed. But she looked amused. “Oh, my dad always worries. And it’s not really a day at home if I don’t get in trouble for something.” But she didn’t seem too worried about it. “We should do something some time, though!”
It was good to see that Ariel was so relaxed about it, she’d hate it if she did get in serious trouble just for being out a little late when it was probably Valentine’s fault. “I’d really like that” she nodded with a smile. It was nice to make new friends.
Ariel was so used to it by this point. She was pretty sure even her father got exasperated when he grounded her. Whenever she got caught, that was. But the OC had been a bit strange lately, so she could at least understand his current worry.
“Great! I’ll get a hold of you on the net or something!”
Nodding Valentine smiled, “Definitely. Speak to you again soon. Have a good evening, I’ll keep my fingers crossed that you don’t get in trouble."
